Good wine and good people. This is truly an off-​the-​beaten-​path place that deserves a visit. More like what Napa used to be, small and intimate.

My favorite winery in Paso. Out of the way. But worth the trip. Everything is worth trying. Join the wine club for good discounts on wines grown and produced by the owners.

This is the sort of wine tasting experience you look for when you go on a wine tasting expedition. Unless you happen to love tasting wines of average quality in an upscale, brand new building that looks like a castle or a Tuscan villa.
We don’t. We like unassuming wineries like this one where the owner is the vintner, the farmer, and the person doing the pours. And has been doing this for the last 30 – 40 years. Your wine tasting experience will last a long time as Bill carefully explains the details and takes care of everyone on his own. But what a journey!
We were lucky enough to do a tasting on a Friday not a Saturday so we didn’t have to experience the crowds. Everybody who we did see drop by that day were personally known by the owner including a couple that were up from San Diego who were wine makers themselves and inquiring about a shipment of wine.
If wine makers are making a habit of ordering wine from here than I would say the wines are pretty darn good. We liked them but I can’t tell a $ 100 bottle from a $ 10 bottle of wine myself.
Almost all of the wines they have are reds. So if you only like whites, don’t bother. Actually, do bother because even if you only like whites you’ll still have fun.
Do try the excellent olive oil, which Bill also makes from trees growing on his property.

I love this winery! They focus on reds, and if you like reds, you won’t be disappointed. The winery is small but they offer an extensive list of choices. The wines are priced great. The owners are incredibly nice and friendly. It is a bit off the beaten path but worth the drive!

Ranchita Canyon has some of the best wine in Paso. On top of that, more often than not, the wine is poured by Bill, the winemaker himself. The East side of Paso is often overlooked in favor of many of the oversized wineries in the West. Don’t miss this winery! You will not be disappointed!

Their wine is alright… however, the owners and their employees are extremely rude and I refuse to ever buy another bottle of their wine. I would definitely not recommend them or their wine.

Ranchita Canyon is a bit off the beaten track but you will not be sorry you made the effort. All the wines are delicious! Haven’t found one I did not like! The staff is very friendly and inviting. Don’t let the small tasting room fool you… their wines are HUGE!

Great wine, friendly staff. It’s a little out of the way, but that’s a bonus in my book because you get to enjoy the beautiful views.

This was stop 5 of 5 and probably the liveliest of all. You can actually wine taste with the owner — I believe it’s Bill?
The tasting room itself was nothing to brag about; it was basically a warehouse with a small bar at one end. You walk in right past a washer and dryer to the bar. I liked the wine here even though the tasting room wasn’t extravagant as Justin’s. Not only that, we brought our own food and was able to share with other patrons. Pretty cool when you could shoot the sh*t with the owners and share cheese and crackers.

At Ranchita, you can taste with the owners themselves. They’re currently undergoing renovations, so you have to do your tastings in the barn. How cool, ey? The wine is good, too.
