Specialties
The YWCA of the Harbor Area values a philosophy of child development that recognizes and respects the uniqueness of each child’s growth patterns; cognitive, social, emotional, and physical needs.
The YWCA incorporates into its curriculum, the experiences of different cultures. We encourage children to feel good about their own culture and to respect the diversity around them.
The YWCA is committed to providing an environment for children that fosters self-esteem and pride in one’s achievements and provides opportunities for parents to feel this same pride. We value parents, faculty and staff who support the integrity and acceptance of each individual. We promote open communication between home and school, a partnership in learning, and the idea that all children and adults continue to work and learn throughout their lives.
History
Established in 1995.
Children have individual differences in interest, ability, and past experiences. The YWCA program allows the children, in a safe environment, the freedom of movement needed to experiment, to question, and to deal with their own intellectual curiosity in their own way, at their own pace.
Carefully planned opportunities for observing, experimenting, talking, and listening will serve to widen horizons. Children will be encouraged to develop inquiring minds, sharpen their curiosity, and extend their awareness of people and events in the world through direct experiences that are relevant to their personal developmental stage. The program staff will provide information, guidance, and the tools of learning; the child will set the pace and direction.
WORLDTOTS incorporates into its curriculum, the variety of experiences of different cultures. We encourage each child to identify with their own culture and to respect the diversity around them.
The YWCA values children, families, & Staff.
