H & J Tire

I live closer to a competitor who I also like, but recently I missed an appointment and was on my way to the mtns needing tires in a hurry because mine were in very bad shape. I work close by so I called H&J and asked if they could help me out on short notice the day before thanksgiving. My car isn’t the most popular so tires aren’t always in stock, but they were able to put on a set of tires and align my car in just a couple hrs so that I wouldn’t be driving in a snowstorm on bald tires. To top it off, the price was extremely reasonable!

I had been in contact with Chris regarding getting new rims and tires for my Mazda sedan. It took me literally *months* to decide what I wanted rims-​wise. And when I contacted Chris again, he remembered our conversation and offered me the same pricing he did the first go around.
I dropped my car off in the morning and went to work, that same afternoon it was done.
I can’t say enough about how great this facility is. Chris and Dennis and the rest of their staff are wonderful, and I’ll happily take my business here in the future.

Let me tell you a story, about a man who sells tires. Well, no, I can’t do that, because he does so much more than just sell tires. Hmmmm…
Alright, how about I just tell you about my experience here? Yes? Alright children, gather ’round…
I pulled in, parked, and hadn’t even walked in before Chris gave me a friendly nod while he was helping a young lady who had several questions about her tires and her car. I waited patiently, sensing I was in the right place, and soon after Chris and I had a conversation about tires. I was looking for used, and he didn’t have any. I asked him about new, and he began offering me options. We settled on a set that i’d come back for on Saturday (today), and I left, feeling like a wise man.
I returned today, a little later than anticipated, and after a brief conversation about final options, the truck went one way, and I another, to breakfast!
By noon 30, I was happily settling up and on my out the door to a truck with four new tires, and a much needed alignment that was ever so frustrating (or would have been for lesser men!). The truck now rides like a dream; no shimmy, no shake, no pull, the steering wheel is center again, and I have no worries that another tire will soon lose its tread!
Look, we all want the same thing in our service, and these gentlemen will give you far more than what you’ll settle for.
You need a new set of tires soon, right? Perhaps an alignment to fix that annoying (and UNSAFE!) pull, or that shimmy when you hit the brakes (those crazy California drivers!).
Go on, get in your car, take it over to H&J, and see why they’ve been in business for 43 years.

Can’t give enough praise to Chris, Denny and the gang at H&J Tire. They are professional, stand behind their work, and have fair prices.
Had a full set of tires installed today, and without my having to ask, they swapped a cosmetically-​flawed rim with the new and shiny one that was on my spare. Not only does my car ride better, it looks better.
You can’t go wrong by bringing your car to them!
Endnote: I am beyond sad to be leaving the Bay Area and this wonderful business.

This is the only place in town to buy tires. Professional, experienced and honest.
Chris always tries to find the best tires and price for my Prius. My appointment was at 10:00 and I was promised the car in less than an hour and that is what happened. This is the only place for tires for me. Thanks Chris for another great job!

After calling around to local tire shops in the area I came across Chris and H&J tire. They had a very wide selection of tires for my Audi from the lower end to the high-​end. If you are looking for an honest tire shop that is not trying to upsell you then this is the place. I made in 8 AM appointment and was out the door by 9 AM. Ask about their free tire rotations.

Every time my car goes to see Chris at H & J it comes home much happier.
These people are great!

Visiting a friend in a nearby town. Early morning Friday, I went back out to my car, and saw that one tire was completely flat. I found H&J’s reviews here, knew it was the place I should go. I used my ‘cig lighter’ inflator to get the tire functional & headed out (5 miles to the place). Halfway their I had to stop to reinflate. Made it there; Dennis checked me in. Despite his just having had a bunch of work come in just before me, he had me back on the road in less than 1.4 hours, and let me go for only 37 bucks. Wow, there are still businesses that don’t take advantage even when they could get away with it! Friendly & courteous all around. Great job also by Steven at the front desk. I’m very grateful to have had these folks there when I needed them.

I have been coming to this place for over a decade. Always honest. Always friendly. Always fast. Always fair.
I am so skeptical of these type of places. Well no skeptic needed here. So, this AM I had another nail in another front passenger tire. I mean, how often does that happen? Monthly I think. So I went in. Within 5 minutes the car was up in the air. Within minutes they found the nail in the tire/​coffin. Within minutes it was taken off the car, tire plugged, other tires checked, tire back on car. Car down off of lift and I am done. I think maybe 10 minutes and so fair on pricing. I have also gotten many tires here, had other things done and there is a reason this place has been here forever. Chris, Dad and staff just first rate. No, I am not a plant and maybe I come here every year or so and nothing really seems to change. That is a good thing.

I have never felt so disrespected and unwelcomed. I called h&j after comparing prices to other places and Chris was super friendly and offered me $ 65 for a used tire, I decided to check it out. Chis’ friendliness flipped REALLY quick while I was deciding whether to go with a full set or just one. He said «look I am extremely busy right now!» He was extremely disrespectful and I felt as though I was bothering him by wanting to do business with him. He then ignored me and continued on the phone. I do not recommend anyone to go to this place. As I got into my car I proceeded to tell one of his employees, «he wasn’t very nice», and there response was «yeah I know he isn’t at all.» Learn how to treat paying customers.

We’ve been going to Dennis and Chris for 15 years for our car care needs and have ALWAYS been satisfied. Sure they are great for oil changes and tires, etc. But most importantly, we trust them with our vehicles. As a woman, this trust is invaluable! They are honest, not afraid to refer us out to other businesses for work they aren’t prepared to do, and very flexible with scheduling repairs around our busy lives. Their customer service is consistently among the top 2 – 3 businesses, in my experience. So much so that when we bought a new car and were given FREE tire service in exchange for paying for all other service at the dealership, we turned it down because we just trust Dennis and Chris to do right by us. Can’t recommend them highly enough.

Fast, very competitively priced, friendly and do a good job. They also did it when they say they were going to. That’s all I need. I will continue to go there for all my brakes, tires and suspension.

Very refreshing to experience true customer service from a family owned business. H&J Tire will now be my go-​to-​spot for all of my auto tire needs. I was greeted with a smile at the door and was treated as if I was the only customer there even though they were very busy. Chris has a gift for explaining my cars problems so that even I can understand what is going on. I wish there were more than five stars for this review.

If I I could this place 10 stars, I would!!! I live in the East Bay, and got a flat tire on the bridge– I called me dad who lives in San Rafael and he said to go to H & J. Everyone was so nice! I had made up my mind to just replace the two back tires before I even got there. I was told it was going to be about 45 minutes (which to me is already an expedient time), I walked down the street to get some lunch and less than a half hour later they were DONE! So, in less than a half hour they replaced two tires and rotated my tires for less than $ 150 out the door!!! THANKS AGAIN!!!

Had 4 new tires put on my 2003 bmw in September of 2013. While parking my car in my parking lot I barely touched a curb and the tire exploded. We are talking parking not driving at 60 mph. After AAA changed the tires, I went to H&J to tell them what happened. I asked if he would give me another tire. I explained that I have never had a tire explode before by turning the tire while parking and touching the corner on the curb. He didn’t care and was unwilling to give me another tire. He was very condescending and insulting. I guess because I am a woman. He also spoke so loudly my ears hurt. I guess he thinks a 60 year old woman is deaf. Will never get tires here again.

I came for a second opinion because the dealership wanted to replace all 4 struts due to a knocking noise from the vicinity of a rear wheel. Turns out it was only a bolt that needed tightening!
These guys could have bs’ed me, but they were honest and ethical. I paid a fair price instead of getting an unnecessary complete strut replacement at $ 1,500.00.

Could not ask for better customer service. Chris was very helpful with taking the time to go over several pricing options and going over the process from start to finish.

Rarely do you find soooo many happy reviews about businesses but H & J is everything and more of each of these positive reviews, inclulding mine. I have been going to H & J off and on for years, buying my tires, tires for my sons while they were in school (used saved me tons) and some mechanical repairs as well. I have always found every member of the management and staff, cordial, friendly and really concerned that they give you the best deal for your money. More than once I was told «you can save your money and go a few months more on these tires…» even when I was ready to purchase a pair of tires. How refreshing. Chris and his father are true old school believers in customer care… Long may you run H & J !
If you need auto service go to H & J first ! They will not steer you wrong…
