Joey did such an amazing job on my husband’s 50^th birthday tribute video. He has such a unique product with You are Videos. The video was edited so smoothly that it felt like I was watching a movie. Through file sharing, he made it so easy for me to be included in the creative process so the video was exactly what I wanted. The entire process was easy and the resulting video is something my husband and I will cherish for a lifetime. Watching my husband watch how people felt about him was absolutely priceless. I don’t think there is any other way I could have gotten it across to him how loved he is. He was humbled and at the same time felt like a million bucks! #epicwin for me :)

We had such an amazing experience I only wish we would have found Joey sooner. He took the time to get to know our family and found a way to incorporate that into exactly what we wanted. The shoot itself was very comfortable and the pictures came out AMAZING. The hardest part of the entire experience was narrowing down the pictures to choose the ones we loved the most. there was honestly not one single picture he showed us (out of at least 50) that we didn’t love. I have full confidence that anyone who chose Joey as their photographer would not be disappointed and our family will undoubtedly continue to use him as we grow.

My husband and I are celebrating a very special anniversary, and we love to hike. We engaged Joey to take photos of us enjoying the outdoors together. He suggested Rodeo Beach, one of our favorites! Joey scouted out several perfect locations before we arrived. He met us at 5:00, when the evening sun would be soft. During the photo shoot, he made us laugh to help us be «natural,» even though he was recording what we did.
Joey took photos of us walking on the beach, sitting on a bluff looking out over the ocean, hiking through flowers — the list goes on. We are thrilled with the variety and quality of our photos!

Joey took our pictures at the end of the summer and they turned out awesome! We are new to the area and wanted to show off the Golden Gate Bridge. Taking pictures is always awkward for me but he kept me and my husband at ease and got great shots. We will absolutely use him again and I highly recommend him. He was great with our dog too!!! My husband and I hired Joey to photograph our civil ceremony wedding at SF City Hall. He really listened to what we wanted and made us feel very comfortable. We love how the pictures turned out, and our family and friends were thrilled with them as well. Joey is very good at capturing candid moments and being creative to make the photos very unique. We really appreciate the quality of his work and his talent at capturing our special day. He also provided us with the finished photos really quickly, which was just that much more exciting. 4 stars, because I have no other experiences with family photographers. But make no mistake — these were awesome pictures. Everyone comments on the large prints we have on our wall and our Christmas cards were unreal. We plan on using Joey again!
and if it helps to know, Joey is a family guy himself. he’s not afraid of grumpy kids — he even knew to stop for a snack. Some of the best pictures came during snacktime!

I hired Joey on three separate occassions within 5 months — 1) as «paparazzi» for my girls-​night-​out birthday celebration, 2) date night with my husband for our anniversary; and 3) family photo session. All fun experiences with beautiful photos. I highly recommend him. Not only is Joey very personable and easy to work with, he has fantastic creative talent. He’s got an «eye» for beautiful composition and possesses incredible timing to capture the right moments. I’m definitely a fan.
Joey has excellent client service — professional and responsive. I appreciate that he spent a lot of time with us and was very patient as we went through so many photos, deciding which to blow up on prints and where to place them in our home. He delivered high quality canvas and metal prints that we are absolutely thrilled with. We took his recommendation to print on metal one of the abstract family photos he took with a gorgeous blue background of the sky. We’re glad we did. It looks absolutely amazing printed on the glossy metal. It’s prominently displayed in our loft and is my husband’s absolute favorite.
I can’t say enough good things about Joey. It’s not surprising at all to see and read the positive reviews on Unilocal.I was referred to Joey by a newlywed co-​worker of mine. Joey was her wedding photographer. I was so impressed with her wedding photos that I called Joey right away to book him for all three events I mentioned at the beginning of this review! Joey photographed our family in our home and I never expected such gorgeous photos! They are so elegant and classic. I would definitely recommend Joey for any special occasion, or even just everyday life… he’ll make it look great! Very personable, professional, and talented! We hired Joey as our wedding photographer and couldn’t have been happier with him or his gorgeous pictures!
What really sets Joey apart from other wedding photographers (besides his stunning photographs) is his level of service. Joey responds quickly to any question or concern. Even though Joey has a full roster of clients, he really goes out of his way to make you feel like you are the only wedding in the world with how much attention he gives you.
He asked all the right questions to make sure he was prepared with what we wanted for our wedding day. In fact, he thought of things I would have never remembered to do or ask, and really saved a lot of mini-​disasters from occurring with his insights. I could have probably hired him to be my wedding planner as well!
Joey was also a calming and awesome vendor for the day of the wedding. He was very concerned with my comfort, and making sure my husband and I were taken care of. Despite the size of my wedding, and being pulled in lots of directions by my family, Joey was never flustered. He was super easy going and rolled with the punches, a necessity for any wedding.
Even more amazing, our photo booth vendor cancelled at 1:00am the day of our wedding. When Joey heard about it, he created a makeshift photo booth for our guests on the spot! It was definitely not in his job description, and nobody asked him to do it, he just came up with it, and made it work. You can’t beat that level of concern for your client.
I also loved how stealthy Joey was. I barely noticed him running around taking photographs. But when you see his photos of those special moments, its as if he was right next to you the entire time! He managed to capture the most beautiful and intimate shots, without being in the middle of them.
Even after the wedding, Joey still delivers amazing responsiveness and concern for his clients. Joey had proofs and a slide show ready in two weeks, which is incredibly fast for a photographer. When I saw the photos, I was so happy with the way they turned out. My entire family was also thrilled with them. And Joey makes ordering photos so easy and convenient with his online system.
All in all, Joey is a great photographer and runs an exceptional business. His prices were very reasonable and included so many extras, like a engagement session and a beautiful photo album.
One of my bridesmaids at the wedding who got married a few years ago said she wished she had found him when she was booking a photographer years ago because of how he conducted himself, how he made me feel, and how amazing his photos were. When your guests notice how great your photographer is, you know you’ve found someone special.
His exquisite photos, amazing customer service, and all around easy going nature make him exactly the person you want to hire as you go through the wedding process. Book before some other smart bride does or he figures out how incredible he is and starts doing celebrity weddings!

There are only so many pictures a parent can take of the back of their kid’s head before she realizes that it’s time to call in a professional. In our case, we even have excellent photographers and fancy cameras in the family, but capturing our 1-​year old as anything but a blur and getting a picture of all three of us together was next to impossible. I had been keeping tabs on Joey’s work for some time and when we were ready, I went through his gallery and wrote to all the friends I recognized who he had done sessions with (he’s the go-​to guy in the City now, apparently!). They unanimously said that he was easy to work with, professional, and caught the shots they were looking for. So we set it up!
One of things I was struck by was how easy the logistics were, such as paying the deposit online, filling out a pre-​shoot survey that asked helpful questions about what we had in mind, and choosing shots for prints from our gallery on his website. Joey is also affordable and turns the photos around quickly – we were able to choose shots to frame for Christmas presents within a few days of our session. The company he gets prints through was also speedy and the quality was perfect (especially compared to the DIY photo site options I’ve been floundering with this past year).
Most importantly, Joey’s documentary style of shooting was the right fit for us. He knows the city and it’s backdrops extremely well, but I liked that he recommended we stay in our neighborhood so that when we look back at the photos, we will remember this time in our lives. Plus it made our kiddo more comfortable to be in his own space, playing with his own stuff. I was nervous that it was starting to rain and we wanted some outdoor shots, but it was no problem! We have some pretty lush landscaping in our condo complex that we showed Joey and he lit up, seeing the possibilities and taking some of the best shots of the bunch. And being a father himself, he has a cool, easy-​going way with kids that brings out their best. We are totally thrilled with the process and the results and will definitely use Joey again.

I purchased a Groupon for a Joey session early last year. We used it for our engagement photos. My husband and I are both video editors and extremely technical. We rarely have good quality photos of the two of us together since we’re always the ones behind the camera.
We met on a typical overcast San Francisco day in April. We had a good session starting in the Richmond district moving to Land’s End near sunset right as the clouds parted for a brief warmly lit setting. Joey is very personable and wasn’t shy to offer wedding and marriage advice to us. You could tell he really enjoys getting to know his subjects which helps to bring out the best in them. We were an extremely shy awkward geeky couple, so when we saw the results, I was surprised how much life he captured of us.
I’m an honest reviewer, and even though I enjoyed Joey as a person, at the time of our session, I think he was a little bit behind on the post-​technical aspect of photography. We wanted only digital prints for ourselves to use around the web and to email our wedding announcement. Joey was hesitant to offer up digital copies, untouched. Also– the digital copies he sold to us were from his selects only, which we were bummed about. Even if he thinks a photo isn’t suitable to share, we were prepared to process the files ourselves to our liking. I understand this gets into a grey area of copyright issues, photographers don’t want to put their name on something that doesn’t look good, but we’re in the photos, so why wouldn’t we have access to all the proofs? We managed to get a few more digital copies from him. Also– I wish he had a more digital friendly delivery process. I think we ended up downloading from his FTP but it was really slow. I don’t have an immediate answer to this, but I know there are web services that offer client download/​upload use. I wish he was set up for something like that. Granted, this was almost a year ago, so for all I know Joey is a rockstar on the digital front now.
I know we were asking for a lot, being in the post-​production industry ourselves. But we really wanted to process some of our own photos and wanted to keep things digital. I also thought the price was a little steep for what we got. My rating goes mainly to the delivery process. The actually shoot day was great. Joey even drove us to our house so we could change clothes for the second half of our session. We got to learn a little about him in return to him knowing about us. It was a fun shoot, I just wish the delivery went smoother.
Not sure how valid my review is for most people seeking a professional photographer. I would highly recommend Joey to someone who is looking for a good personable shoot with great results and to someone who doesn’t have much knowledge on the post-​production aspect of the industry. But for people like us, I would move on to a photographer who’s willing to work with you more on the post part of the service.

How have I not written this review yet? Joey is incredibly dedicated and professional, and produces some gorgeous photos without being too fussy.
We found Joey through Groupon, and I decided to use the session I purchased for some photos of me and my fiancé (not really engagement photos, because we weren’t that well planned out). There were SO many factors that made this shoot less than ideal (none of them Joey’s fault) — long day at work, traffic, bad weather. I am camera shy, and my now-​husband is downright anti-​camera, but through all of these challenges Joey worked it and made sure that we got at least a few decent shots on our rainy shoot.
We booked Joey to shoot our wedding, which was small and informal — but he really treated it as an important, memorable event. He took plenty of time to talk with me beforehand about what I wanted, and he made a trip out to the venue beforehand so that he’d be somewhat familiar with the location. On the day of, Joey was so helpful — keeping me and my family relaxed, helping my husband with a few last-​minute details at the venue, and keeping the shots coming in a small space with challenging lighting. I asked for not to many of the «line up the relatives with the bride and groom» shots, and Joey did a good job of honoring that request — keeping things intimate and candid, which is always my preference. Photos were up for us to view on his website pretty soon after the wedding, and they were really breathtaking.
We liked all of the photos so much that we couldn’t decide which ones we wanted for prints, so we purchased a high-​resolution CD of all the images for about $ 300 instead. I’m sure we will eventually purchase some prints, but it’s lower priority for us right now. One downside is that in the New Year, he’ll take down our online gallery to make space for this year’s clients and (I think) charge us a reload fee when we decide that we’re ready to order prints. That shouldn’t be a problem for you, though, if you just order your prints right away. He did leave the gallery up for several months, and I understand that his online storage space is not unlimited.
I think that we were one of his first weddings, so we got a spectacular deal on his services. Now that he’s done a few more weddings, his rates are basically close to the standard for Bay Area wedding photographers (starting at around $ 1500 for the basic package). If you’re looking for someone who is talented, laid-​back, and will absolutely overcome any challenges to make sure you have fantastic pictures, Joey is your guy.

fun shoot. on time. responsive. professional. brilliant choice of locales (his suggestion). beautiful light. he was AMAZING with my son. and fast! a serious plus with a 15 month old. we did a neighborhood mini-​session, which was perfect for us – the time constraint kept it casual and easy for me mentally and boredom wasn’t an issue for my son because it was over before he knew it. and most importantly, fantastic results. i’m picky, so i was actually pretty surprised. joey did a great job and i’d work with him again in a heartbeat.
i’ve got lots (too many to say without being extremely embarrassed) of pics of my son and him and everyone else, but not a ton with the both of us as i’m always the one behind the camera. joey solved this little dilemma in less than 30 minutes. found joey via a promotion and some recommendations on neighborhood parenting yahoo groups. five stars without hesitation.

After looking through countless galleries of lots of engagement photos I chose Joey Chandler for our engagement shoot. He responded quickly to our inquiry and was easy and accomodating with our schedule.
Joey was a blast to work with and we had so much fun taking our engagement photos. He helped keep us relaxed so that he could capture the perfect moment.

I feel that how a photographer interacts with you during the session is just as important as how the pictures turn out. I’ve had photographers who were mean, flaky, bossy, etc. and even though the pictures turned out awesome, when I looked at them, I just didn’t get a good feeling.
Joey Chandler has both the great artistic eye plus a great way with people. He made our family feel comfortable, told us how to stand without bossing us around and was just overall flexible without compromising the shots.
The pictures were beautiful and he was so great about getting them up on time online and saying great things about our family and our photo shoot. A good photographer always has something nice to say about the people in the picture, even if they’re not models and it’s just a normal family taking pictures in our old house that we grew up in.
A definite professional who we were so lucky to work with!

I bought a photo session with Joey off Groupon, and he was great at trying to take pictures of our dog (and my husband and me) at Crissy Field. I had bought the Groupon knowing that Joey didn’t «specialize» in pet photography, even though that was my intent. He did a great job, and we now have photos of our dog that we will always treasure. He was great to work with and very attentive to our wishes re: photos.

Wow. The pictures that Joey took at Baker Beach are incredible. Not only did he capture exactly what I wanted, but he went above and beyond with other interesting photos. Some of the pictures look like they could be in a magazine, focusing on dog’s of course. Bella my dog was the serious star of the photo shoot. I will post some photos once Joey sends me the digital files. The hard part of this whole process is picking which pictures are the best, and if my husband agrees to my choices. We have different opinions on just about everything. That makes for a fun marriage yeah?

Joey took pictures of my entire family (including 2 sets of grandparents, my 5 month old, hubby and I). At first my primary criteria was convenience — getting everyone together at the same time was difficult so I wanted an easy process — Joey contacted me right away and was very professional. He came to our house and actually made the photo session fun. Getting our little one to smile wasn’t the easiest task but he dealt with the situation really well!
We really appreciated his follow through as well — he came to our house again to give us some good artistic insights about our options…

My family and I hired joey for a photo shoot with our baby and parents. Overall we had an excellent experience. Joey was very patient and thoughtful, made everyone confortable. Photos turned out to be beautiful to the point where we made one into a canvas print. We found pricing to be very reasonnable given high quality of service and photos. We highly recommend joey, particularly if you are looking for baby pictures like we were.
