Knimble Clothing

I have to drop my review, because I went back 2 more times after the first time I sold here. I’m cleaning out my and my husband’s closet. I’m starting to get that some of the girls that check the clothes, don’t really know some of the other sites/​stores that some of the clothes are coming from. Who ever trains these girls should definitely do their research and get to know ALL or at least most of the online website out there and not just want to buy Forever 21, H&M, and Urban Outfitters stuff, because that’s all they know. The two times I came back again, I watched the girls price it out and passed on some items, because she couldn’t figure out what store it came from or not know how to price it. The second time I was there, the girl skipped out on some good store items. Then the third time I was there, the girl asked me where I bought the item and how much I paid for it. Both times they passed on or I had to tell the girl about Francesca’s, Modcloth, French Connection, and Brandy Melville items. It makes me really think twice about how much their pricing out these things or if they’re really knowledgable about the products. But if they didn’t buy my things, it would just all go to Goodwill, so I guess it’s better than nothing. LOL

Not sure why this store has such bad reviews, maybe there are different staff now. Both girls that were working were super nice, and the girl in the fitting room area was super helpful! I went shopping by myself and she helped me pick out some great stuff! Great selection of clothes, shoes, etc. Definitely recommend and I will be going back!

oh jeez. first, i didn’t realize this was a second hand store. i had gone out to a date night with my husband and walked by the window and saw a skirt i LOVED in the display. fast forward to two days later when i finally have some time to myself sans kids and i hop in and tell the saleslady i would like to purchase it — no need to try on, it looked my size, didn’t care about cost, whatever. she refuses! there is a WINDOW POLICY? and she says they don’t have the time and resources to redecorate the display everytime someone wants to buy something.
i was (still am) speechless.
it was hanging on a hanger, not on a mannequin and meanwhile there are other employees literally just standing there, doing absolutely nothing. i was told they would email me when they find the time to take down the displays and i could make time to come back then and purchase it. no appreciation for a customer’s time, you want me to schedule my calendar to come back because you don’t have one minute to pull a skirt?
this is literally the stupidest business tactic i’ve ever heard in my entire life. i have a shopping PROBLEM and you’ve just lost a potential customer and serious loot. never coming here again.

I’ve shopped here a couple times but I don’t think I’ll go back again. Knimble’s items are pretty well-​priced, I suppose, but the atmosphere is just downright chilly. The employees are stiff and unwelcoming, and the overall feel of the store is a bit snobbish. Every time I walked into the store, I felt like I was interrupting some important business. I must have been, because I was always greeted by the most accosted looks.
I like the store’s taste in items — the things I found here I have thoroughly enjoyed. However, I just feel like I’m walking on eggshells in this place. It just isn’t a pleasant shopping experience, sadly.

Avoid at all costs.
Only because that means more for me.
Anthropologie meets Crossroads Trading Co. High level, high quality, lightly worn designer clothing. Incredibly reasonable prices.
Most recently I purchased the cutest pair of boots for $ 37, a gorgeous new sling purse for $ 20 and a darling necklace for $ 20.
Love, love, love this place.

The young women at this establishment are only nice to other white ppl. Big surprise, having moved from SF to SR the racism is real. They probably assumed I brought in a bunch of stolen clothes to sell. If your a person of color stay clear. I guess they like stocking their shelves with and selling items from various cultures but don’t like the actual ppl from various cultures, unless of course they’re European.

Hmm… I’m not sure why this store gets so many negative reviews. Every time I’m in town I always make a point of stopping by and always leave with something. They have a great selection and and their prices are extremely reasonable! The staff has always been kind.
Highly recommended if you want a store with high quality clothing on a budget!

What is up with the complaints? I have been in this store a total of about five times and I’ve had good to great experiences each time. One time my sister and I were helped by a very busy woman behind the counter (who was taking in someone’s used clothes) and we ended up buying some very cute jewelry. I was in today and was greeted heartily when I walked in. Again, though they are busy, the women behind the counter were more than happy to pull out purses or jewelry for my inspection. I bought almost everything I tried on (rare) and I heard a woman tell her daughter (while I was in the dressing room) the same thing: «What are you getting?» I’m gonna buy everything I’ve tried on, well except for the green shirt.”
The scarf I bought was new, from India ($ 30), the clothing I bought was pre-​owned. There’s a lot of cute choices and whoever sets up the displays has an eye for design/​color/​clothes. I saved a lot of money by buying used: great cotton lumberjack-​type shirt ($ 14), merino sweater ($ 40), new with tags Zara skirt ($ 14). If you want $ 5 clothing, go to Goodwill and if you want to pay retail and be waited on hand and foot, there are many boutiques in Marin for you to choose from. But if you’re looking for some bargains in a bright, airy space staffed by friendly people, come here!

Once again, Unilocal,why can I not give negative stars? If I could, I would for this store more than any other store I’ve been in during my 49 years on this planet. NEGATIVE FIVE STARS. There. I’m starting my new negative star trend on Unilocal.
#1 I enter with nearly $ 1,000 worth of designer shirts of my hubby’s as well as a couple Target shirt rejects that still have the tags on them. I am greeted with irritation and the feeling that I’m interrupting an extremely important something or other. But for the life of me, I can’t figure out what could possibly be so important in a nearly empty resale shop on 4^th St. in the middle of the day.
#2 I realize you have a procedure to follow but you don’t need to treat your customers like they’re morons or speak to them as such. I guarantee, little girl, that my education far surpasses yours.
#3 ok. I’ll play the game mostly because I’ve had these shirts in a bag in my car for nearly three weeks and I want them out of my car. I’ll walk away while you peruse my dear hubby’s shirts. I love these shirts and many of them have never been worn. But alas, sometimes it’s time to deal with the fact that you’re just not gonna fit into a small or maybe even never a medium again. But there’s lots of hipsters who would die for these shirts at a discount.
#4 I decide to shop a bit while I wait and find a couple shirts to try on for myself. (I know what you’re thinking. These were my husband’s shirts. So maybe he should get the credit. But I’m the one here with the shirts so I decide I deserve to buy myself a little something.) While I’m in the dressing room, my name is called. I tell the lady to wait just a second. I’m almost done trying on my last shirt. To which she replied to come out of the dressing room NOW with whatever I had on so that I can review what they’ve decided to take off my hands. Are you kidding? I damn near came out naked just to prove a point.
#5 I am not done trying on the last shirt, but whatever. I go up to the front where little miss can’t be wrong informs me that she decided to keep one of the shirts. 1 out of 15 shirts. And guess what? It’s one of the Target shirts! She doesn’t even have the sense to recognize good quality when it’s dropped in her lap. My store credit is $ 6.40. I’d literally laugh out loud if I hadn’t been so irritated that I wasted my time parking and going into this little cavern of stupidity.
So there you have it. Five– negative stars.
I want to add that there was a sweet young girl training at the register who looked uncomfortable and harassed by her trainer. I have the urge to run back in there and yell «Run! Run, sweet girl, before you find that stupidity, lack of fashion sense, and rudeness are contagious!»

As a super-​fan of Buffalo Exchange, Wasteland & Crossroads Trading Co., I had always wanted a clothing exchange, Buy/​Sell Store in Marin County. I was over the moon and ready to try Knimble (i can never remember this name) Clothing. I took about a M/​L suitcase full of some of my best clothes that just didn’t fit right anymore. There were several INC Macy’s burn-​out style cotton woman’s t shirts and hoodys that I wish I could still wear. They werent cheap and were in great condition along with all that I brought. The buyer and her tiny, very young teen assistant didnt seem familiar with any of the brands or designers and looked up most items in a huge binder. They encouraged me to shop as they priced my stuff, when I returned they had bought a few items and offered me $ 36.00 in cash. I was disappointed that they rejected 90% of my items including the Macy’s and British Marks and Spencer clothes that are really well made and recently purchased. I kinda have to say I didn’t have a great experience selling.
I found a lot of their stock a bit boring also I asked where the 10.5 or 11 size shoes were & they said they did not carry shoes over a 10 because they don’t sell. Thats strange cause everywhere I shop for shoes the sizes above 10m are sold out routinely. Its been a really long time since Ive heard a store say that they didn’t sell my size shoe. I found it creepy that some women could buy shoes to go with an outfit but not me and my 6ft sisters and other women with that size. So I didn’t go back for a long time. Then I went in, found a few cute things and noticed a lot of winter things in plus size or as they say XL and above.
I didn’t want to waste my time when I came back to sell so ti asked a Manager What are you buying, what should I bring in? She told me that Knimble has a theory that ‘A Gap v-​neck T will sell better than anything else on the sales floor”. we also like pastels and light colors’ So more preppy clothes, t shirts, jeans, etc? I asked. ‘Yes and specifically the GAP brand’ she finished. Wow this store ain’t Buffalo at least not the Haight St. store, people tried to stop the Gap from moving in there with the Don’t Mall The Haight Gap! campaign, sadly they lost & the Gap ushered in several other chain stores but at least Buffalo and several other buy/​sell clothing stores are still there too!
The second time I sold I took the Managers advice and brought preppy pastel even a couple Gap v-​necks and all the Buyer at Knimble bought was a black knit sequin collar short sleeve sweater jacket and I came out less than $ 4.s richer with a bag of clothes for my trouble to donate. I give up.
I’m sure Back-​East they love preppy but Marin shoppers like variety, some unusual statement pieces, one of a kind items also fun clothing too like clothes for cruising 4^th St (sorry for the American Graffiti ref. but we do like to go out) plus I guess preppy (hi Step-​mom) clothes too. I had/​have high hopes for Knimble we want more variety in fashion as well in sizes, less snobbery, fair friendly buyers & reasonable prices and If we want the GAP we can go there its a very common place.

If I could give this store zero stars I would! Here’s my email to the store owner regarding a very disheartening situation to say the least!
Dear Owner:
I would like to report a very disappointing experience at your San Rafael store on 7÷7÷15. As a returning customer of many years, I was so excited to find an adorable green dress, no different than any other dress in the store and priced at $ 16.00(see picture attached as original tag). Once I came up to the register to pay for it and some other items, the gal at the cashier inadvertently ripped the tag off the dress causing it to fall to the floor. I saw it happen with my own eyes so when she looked puzzled as to where the tag was I told her it had fallen by her feet. She thanked me and picked up the tag only to stare at it and rudely say «oh this tag doesn’t belong to this dress»! What??? It was attached to it I told her. She then proceeds to tell me sometimes «wrong» tags are attached to merchandise and she has a way to look it up. After wasting about 10 minutes of my time she returns and says this dress is actually $ 28! I asked her how on earth she conjured that amount when all the other similar dresses were in the $ 10-​$ 16 range and she claimed the information was in the computer and this dress is a «high» end designer. I’m sorry but I’m the queen of fashion and a level 4 customer at Nordstroms and never ever heard of this brand nor consider it a «high end designer»! In any event, I asked her nicely that since the tag (wrong or right) was in fact attached to this very dress that she would be honoring the $ 16.00 price… correct? She responded «No we cannot do that»!! That’s when I became very upset and asked for the manager Rachel who made things a whole lot WORSE! She nonchalantly came up to the counter, I told her the whole story and she said «sorry there is nothing we can do that’s our policy.» When I explained to her I am in the legal business and what they are doing is actually illegal and considered false advertising she said oh really? Didn’t know that and still proceeds to tell me she can’t do anything to adjust the price when it was CLEARLY the store’s fault! On top of everything, she throws in there that sometimes people yank off tags and replace them with others… seriously??! This tag was secured on this dress and not been tampered with whatsoever! To boot she looked high on marijuana with droopy sleepy eyes! No wonder she doesn’t want to adjust anything… it’s too much work!
To add insult to injury, I brought over two big bags of gorgeous actual designer clothes some with tags on them to sell and of about 40 items, the buyer purchased one little sweater and gave me store credit of $ 6.50 while a woman after me comes in with her clothes in a paper bag and looking like she’s nearly homeless and they give her $ 49 worth of credit for PURE CRAP!!!
Despite my anger and utter frustration, I told Rachel I would still buy the dress at the fraudulent price of $ 28 and email the owner immediately for reimbursement for the difference of what the actual original tag said and what the fabricated false tag that they attached after the fact. The difference is $ 12! I am now looking over my receipts and realizing she did not even apply the $ 6.50 store credit to my other purchases so the refund should include that as well for a total of $ 18.50!!! I have attached copies of my two receipts as well as pictures of the two tags from the dress. I am not only pursuing this because these days $ 18.50 is still a lot of money BUT mainly because what happened here is illegal, false advertising and just pure BAD customer service and if not fixed I will never ever return to this store again to be treated like garbage and tell all my friends not to shop here either.
Ps-​I considering posting this review on Unilocal to warn others, but would like to provide you with an opportunity to make it right.

Due to the reports poor treatment of our staff over a basic policy (if the tag description does not match the item we cannot sell it until we establish it’s correct tag price), we are going to ask you to not shop at any of our Knimble locations.

Enough said!!! I am truly appalled! PLEASE boycott this store and instead donate all your things to the Novato Hospice where they are ALWAYS utterly grateful, kind and happy to see their customers!!!

Better luck at crossroads or buffalo exchange. They tell you they want «basic» clothing, then you look around and find the wildest patterns and craziest silver metallic fringed button up. I even bought a shirt from here, came back and tried to re-​sell it and they told me that they won’t be purchasing it. Their H&M and Forever 21 shirts are WAY over priced to be used clothing (some with stains). Their «antique décor» is so expensive and random. It’s a cute place but if you bring a bag full of clean, trendy clothing, they’ll take 3 things and offer you 10 bucks cash or 26 bucks store credit. I’m not sure what the process is for the buyers, but they seem inconsistent. The sales associates seem pretty nice and helpful, soooo… that’s something i guess.

I walked into this store with a friend of mine to do some shopping. I have always wanted to come to this location but never had the chance. I had also read some negative reviews but decided not to judge a place until i had experienced it myself.
First of the sales staff were extremely cold and rude. No greeting just totally ignored us for the entire 45 minutes we were in the store.
The one who was in charge of the dressing room area was the worst, she had this frown on her face the whole time we were there, she looked bothered and annoyed… we were not dressed as hobo’s or dirty or anything (not that you should treat people badly) …at some point I walked up to her and asked her if she was the owner and if there was a problem because her attitude was telling us different.
We still bought some shirts from here despite this terrible attitude.
My question to the owner is : —
1) Are you aware that this is how your frontline staff is treating your customers
or do you not care?

2) Is it a training issue or is your staff reflecting the culture of their leader?
You are in the people business if your staff don’t like people then don’t put
them in front of people to interact with! And if you are afraid that everyone
who walks in «may be a potential shoplifter,» then employ the necessary security detail… but do not treat customers with suspicion who are there to spend their dollars!

Love this place! Brought clothing and got an awesome deal for either cash or store credit. Always found something great and my closet is now full of Knimble pieces. Super sweet staff as well. Definitely worth stopping by!

The merchandise was fine. However, I agree with the last Unilocal reviewer – the help did not treat me with regard nor respect.
I had an emergency need to use a bathroom –not only were they bureaucratic and rigid about their response to me but they were rude.
I am aware of the legal guidelines in this situation. They do not have to yield to my request for a public john. But let’s face it, sometimes specific
situations call for humanity and flexibility.
It had tobe clear to them that I was disabled and elderly.
In the end, I was forced to walk blocks out of my way – boo to them!

The atmosphere of the store has a cute, clean vintage feel and there is a large selection compared to other second-​hand stores in the area, but I wasn’t impressed with the prices for the quality of clothing. The prices were steep at about 70−80% of the retail price for clothes that are visibly worn. I might go back to browse if I’m already in the area, but I would rather spend the money on new clothing if the prices are that high. I say that as a sad consignment connosisseur that recently moved to Marin – I love recycling clothes and finding great vintage pieces, but all of the shops around here are ridiculously priced.

This description is completely inaccurate based on my selling experience with them. I came in with brand new, unused clothes (some were older and stained — those I had no problem with them rejecting. I had not noticed the stains until they pointed them out — oops!), including a very nice STILL TAGGED red hollywood style dress that is maybe 7 months old. I was told the skirts and dresses were «too short» and «not their style» and that they’re looking for «more basic clothing». It’s cool, you can purchase whatever style you want for your store, but please don’t waste peoples’ time by claiming you take all styles online and then saying that a skirt style is «too specific» to be purchased. I suppose they could try to argue that they didn’t think my clothes would sell, but frankly I can’t imagine a dress/​skirt not selling simply because it’s «too short». I sell the same used clothes online and receive a lot of interest, I was simply hoping I could sell them faster at this store instead. I would have never brought my clothes here to sell if I’d known that they don’t look for diversity or variety. It was a waste of both my time and theirs, so I really hope they do themselves a favor and change their purchasing description.
Aside from that, the prices on everything there were pretty insane. They were selling Forever 21 tops for the same price as if you’d bought it brand new at Forever 21, their jewelry is very simplistic but never under $ 15, which blows my mind. They sell hair clips for $ 14 that you can make at home for like $ 1 each. The prices are just ridiculous.
These criticisms are strictly covering the pricing and inaccurate website information. The place itself is very pretty and the customer service was exceptional. I really enjoyed the women there and had no problem with their manner while rejecting my clothes. But the prices are monstrous and the website is incorrect, which is why I give the place 2 stars. Highly unlikely I’ll ever go back — but again, I don’t blame the staff I worked with!

Over the last two years I have been visiting this store less frequently because as other Unilocalers have noted, the quality of clothing is going down while the prices are going up. Aaand their customer service STILL sucks.
I used to be able to find quality work blouses, jeans, pants, shoes from Banana Republic, Zara, Ann Tayor for $ 12 – 17 but now the prices are nearly double! They used to have a great selection of shoes and scarfs but I’ve noticed the selections look outdated and many of the SAME items are on the shelves visit after visit…
Other reviews have also highlighted the low level of customer service particularly when customers are selling clothes. Sadly, I’ve experienced the same thing. The interpersonal skills of the buyers are disappointing at best. The girls whisper to each other while their holding up your clothes. There’s not even any small talk while their scrutinizing you and your clothing! If they choose some of your items to sell I’ve been asked BEFORE they give me the price «Do you want store credit or cash?» I assume the purpose is if you want cash they can low ball you on the price… This, like all things with Knimble San Rafael is inconsistent. I’ve visited after this has happened and sold items without being asked.
…so I’ve bumped down their rating to a lowly 2 star «Meh. I’ve experienced better.»
Makes me sad because this place used to be so wonderful. *thumbs down*

It was a lovely spring night at San Rafael, a waterfront town oozing with charm. I spotted Knible Clothing out of the corner of my eye and immediately knew that I’d probably be breaking a few benjamins there during my visit.
Noticing the flicker in my eye, my host turned to me and said: «Isn’t it wonderful? And everything inside there is so cheap too!»
Turns out Knible is a consignment store that sells clothing, housewares, furniture, and local soap and jewelry. As somebody who shops at Anthropologie on an almost weekly basis (401K What!!!), I was shocked by how affordable the prices were.
This is definitely the place to grab something unique for yourself or a friend. I wish there was a shop like this back home for now, I guess I’ll have to irresponsibly spend my life savings at chain stores that try to evoke this beach like boho vibe.
