Our cause is to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

We offer group exercise classes (Yoga, Zumba, Pilates, Cycle, etc), personal training, swimming lessons and healthy lifestyle programs.

Our youth development begins at our pre-schools and continues through our childcare, camp, Y-Kids, swim lessons, restorative justice, and community experience programs.

History

Established in 1946.

The first discussion of a Y in Marin occurred in 1930 by an enthusiastic and persistent man named Fred Smith II, who convinced the San Francisco Board to make it happen. The Marin YCMA officially began where the train stopped at the Ross Station and Post Office. By the end of 1947, the new Marin branch had 34 established groups with an enrollment of 446.

Over the next 35 years the YMCA community grew with outreach programs emphasizing youth activities and summer camping. From 1966 to 1986 the old Stetson Farmhouse in Santa Venetia became the Y’s first property, serving as the center for programs and Day Camp.

In 1987, the Marin YMCA on Los Gamos Drive opened its doors. Memberships were sold out before the doors opened and the beautiful new facility soon became known as one of the best YMCAs in the United States.
