In the twenty years I’ve been bringing vehicles here, I have never had a bad experience. No job has ever cost more than the original quote, and on the occasions I was wrong about what needed to be done they have even saved me money on unnecessary work. It’s rare to find a shop so honest. I have recently moved out of California, and I have found it difficult to find a shop here that comes even close to the quality and reliability I’ve come to rely on.

Great people! The owner came out himself to look at my car and tell me what’s wrong, and went far enough to actually show me what needed to get fixed and how. I recommend this place to anyone looking for an honest mechanic!

A good doctor or dentist is easy to find… a good, honest mechanic– almost impossible. Finally found one here. I won’t bring my truck anywhere else from now on.

*** please read *** These guys are great. Quint takes pride in his work. I have an experience with McGuinnes which to me really defines who these guys are and how they operate. We had an issue with our vehicle. At random times it would simply stop running with no warning. Given the issue seemed a bit complex, we decided to take the vehicle to the dealer to have it fixed… our thought was that the dealer would have computer systems to properly diagnose the issue. Our vehicle spent 2 months at the dealer and after great expense due to trial and error repair work, we continued to experience the same issue — the only solution the dealer offered was that they were willing to sell us a new vehicle (of course they were!). Having been to McGuinnes previously, I decided to speak to Quint and see if he had any thoughts on the problem we were having. He told me he wasn’t sure but that he was determined to figure it out — and that is exactly what he did. After only a couple days he located the needle in the haystack… A frayed wire deep inside the engine that was the source of our problem. The vehicle has been running great ever since. This takes me back to my original statement — these guys are great!

I had a fairly minor issue. I got a quote, and was told the quote given is worst case scenario and could be lower. I made it clear that I needed the car back the same day because I needed to be somewhere that evening, I was told it would be done the same day.
I have the car dropped off early in the morning. In the afternoon, I learn that the car will not be finished that day and nothing can be done about it. The reason given was that a part had to be made by another vendor; it made sense, but it would have been critical to know this prior to me dropping off the car and not at the last minute. I would have gone to Plan B if I had this critical information. No apology provided and no responsibility for oversight taken.
I come to pick up the car, and I am surprised to learn that the bill is about 33% more than the quote provided. Explanation was that the shop had to pay the outside vendor. That may make sense, but this is information that should have been provided in advance. The shop should have obtained my consent prior to just sending off the order to the vendor and letting me know about it after-​the-​fact. Again, no apology nor responsibility taken for oversight.
Never returning here.

Excellent service, perfect repair. I will definitely be a return customer. They had a busy schedule but they squeezed me in for same-​day repair at expected rates.

I found this wonderful small family run shop last year. I called around to find a mechanic that I felt comfortable with and was going to give me fair quotes.
I decided to go with McGuinnes and I am so glad I did.
When I took my car in, I THOUGHT I needed one thing but they told me while I could do that, I only needed part of that and they saved me a few hundred dollars.
This week my car needed a tune up, sunroof repair and brakes. I knew this wasn’t going to be cheap so I did what I do and researched the work then called a couple places about some of it but once again I went back to McGuinnes. Best quotes!
They did the work for less that the quotes and saved me some money again AND my car was done early.
From the moment you call, Niki is nice, informed and happy. She’s just like this in person as well. Quint, (her father) and his guys are super nice and tell it like it is. No hiding information, no ducking questions, etc. They look for solutions not to create more problems. It’s refreshing.

Quint was absolutely amazing. I took my 75 Bronco there, and he had to do some pretty major work on it. He even had to track down an old Bronco that he bought just for parts. He also took it over to another local transmission expert to do some specialized work on it.
He was very honest and explained everything in great detail. I’m so glad I found him, and will definitely take all future work to him.

The best in the business. You won’t find more honest, knowledgeable, or hard-​working mechanics in Marin. They were so helpful and thorough when I brought in a used car I had just bought, and now the car runs like a dream. There was a huge debacle with a seized water pump and they took care of all of it. Quint is the man.

This family operation is so classy… they have serviced our vehicles for many years. They go beyond what is expected to perform small, everyday miracles without making any big deal of it. Recently I had a family emergency but still managed to drop off our truck for servicing since it was being borrowed for a long road trip. Quint saw me pacing outside waiting for a taxi so I could get home and then to the hospital and he dropped everything to drive me home. I got a little teary…
These folks have small town values and big hearts. I love doing business with them.

Quint was recommended to me by a local tire shop to do some work they couldn’t, nor could anyone else I called. He had no problem taking on the job — a somewhat tricky lift kit install for a 4Runner. It was completed in a timely fashion and I got a full explanation of the install. I’m very happy with the work performed and the service and will definitely use Quint in the future.

I don’t know of too many mechanics who are as «outgoing» as Quint… I’m for the most part a DIY guy, but occasionally things take longer than they should. Quint has always been there, what a resource! He recently stopped by my house to ensure I assembled my Dana 44 rear axle properly! Who does that, for real?! Look no further people, Quint will take care of you.

Have continued to take my 1969 Bronco to Quint for work as needed and the finished product is outstanding. Work is always thorough and prompt. Continue to highly recommend this shop.

I have had my BMW serviced here a few times. A friendly staff and so forth, but I question whether the mechanics have all of the latest technology needed to make repairs in a timely fashion. I left my car there with an ABS issue that took a WEEK to get diagnosed. Their $ 400 solution was to reset the computer! I drove away and the ABS light came on. They actually didn’t know what was wrong. A large BMW dealership caught the problem, did the repair, and also gave me a report on other issues. That is good service. McGuinness was not up to speed, in my book.

This garage is just fantastic. Quint knows exactly what he does and his reputation in Marin is outstanding. Two different garages recommended him for work they couldn’t do! I trust him 100% and would never give my car to an other place.
