This location is hidden and looks like its sketch, but damn good sandwiches. The meats and cheese are quality, but that sourdough bread is the kicker. Its nice and warm, soft on the inside and just the right amount of crunch on the outside. Its been a while since I have been here, but when Im in the area I make sure to leave with 2 sandwiches. Only downside to this business are the hours, but I get it. Other than that this place is the joint.

Really great food and such nice and fast people! Will definitely be going back. Except I didn’t give 5 stars because of how crowded it was but it was lunch hour so I expected it! Not long of a wait because how quick they are:)

Michael’s is the Best! We have been going there for years and always bring our out of town friends to Michael’s Sourdough. When our friends come back, Michael’s is definitely one of the places they are sure to want to visit!

Yes, their sandwiches are great, but their customer service skills leave a LOT to be desired and I will NEVER go there again(only this location, I love the owner at the Novato store and they are all very nice)! I called in an order for a couple of sandwiches. I realized right when I hung up the phone, that I forgot to ask for mayo on my sandwich, so I called right back. The phone rang and rang until it finally went into voicemail. I know around lunch, they are busy, so I didn’t want to leave a message thinking they would not get it in time for me to pick them up. I called back about 15 more times(that’s NO exaggeration either) and either got voicemail or a fax machine after it rang and rang. Finally, on my drive over, I was able to reach the man who took my order and asked for him to add mayo. He said no, that it was too late because the sandwiches had already been made. I explained to him that I tried calling back several times right afterwards before they would have started making them and could not get through. He told me that it didn’t matter, he wasn’t going to add it, he would give it to me on the side. At this point, I’m angry because that is BAD customer service and told him that I didn’t want it on the side, I wanted them to add it(it would have taken all of 30 seconds to do so). He said no and hung up on me. In the store, I gave the lady my name and asked her if they could add it. Apparently, the guy who took my order heard me and he argued with me again telling me no. I asked for his name and he refused to give it to me asking what I wanted his name for. I told him that I wanted his name because I was going to call the owner to complain about his bad customer service. I asked the lady helping me for his name and she refused to give it to me. My complaint is NOT about not getting mayo on my sandwich or not, it is all about the BAD customer service I received. Working in customer service my entire life, I would have NEVER treated a customer this way!!!

This is our 2nd visit to Sourdough Mikes, only to learn then have a location in Rohnert Park. This is a lot closer then San Rafael, but still the great same sandwiches. I ordered the #7 Ruben and my wife ordered the #27 Chicken and cream. Both sandwiches were great. But the potato salad was bought not homemade. The parking lot is a bit tough to axcess, but after driving in circles for ten minutes, it was well worth it. As you reach the order counter, you can see with the team if sandwich creaters, diligent in completing Togo orders. You scan the large menu on the wall, and try to choose just the perfect one. They even have a rewards program. And an app to keep it easy. We will keep going back, and trying new items. Just to see if we can get to having a favorite sandwich.

By far my favorite sandwich spot. The fresh baked sour dough bread. The lines move quickly even during the lunch time jam. Great selection of snacks.

Excellent sandwiches, piled high. Everything on sourdough. I was driving by a few weeks back and gave it a try. I knew right off it was going to be good when I saw about 10 people in line in front of me. Got a roast beef sandwich which was very good. In the area again today and got the #17, Smoked German Salami. It was awesome! And again, generous portions. Highly recommend if you are in the mood for a really good sandwich. While I sat and enjoyed my delicious salami sandwich, ther must have been 40 more people come in. But no worries. There are 3 or 4 people making the sandwiches, so the wait is not at all bad. Wow, not even finished writing this review and loads more people. The line is out the door. There are at least 35 people in line, and they must know how good it is, because they are not leaving!

I have been eating at this place for years! Every sandwich they make in my opinion was perfection till now., today I order my favorite #4 and right when I am about to take the last bite a fly comes out crawling out of the wrap., I call the place to let them know and the first thing they said was«I’m sorry let me give you a new sandwich» I am in the business of providing the best customer service that can possibly be offered., and Michaels let me tell you. THEANSWERISNOT A FREESANDWICH! Is accepting the error and prevent it from ever happening again! By the way if you think the fly probably flew in at my place let me put it this way. I always use the sandwich wrap to hold on to it while I eat it.

Michael’s Sourdough in San Rafael never ceases to impress. Everything about this place is great. From the bread(obviously) to the fresh produce and meat, everything always tastes amazing. Although, my favorite thing about this place is the convenience of their online ordering system. The system is the most streamlined, easy-to-use online ordering service I’ve ever seen at a restaurant like this. I work around the corner from this place and ordering online ahead of time before I go pick up for my coworkers and myself is essential due to the popularity of this place. Works perfectly every time. Never change mike’s sourdough!

This place makes a really good sandwich at a good price. The turkey meat is sliced thin like I like it. I love their mayo dressing its more like thousand island salad dressing. I always order on line because the line if you order there is out the door; not because they’re slow, but busy they’re busy!(lunchtime hours). The people are professional and friendly. Good food. Good salads too.

Love the sandwiches. NEVER go in from 12:15 — 1:15 as all high school kids arrive. Also, don’t go when owner isn’t working as things don’t run very smoothly. And if you order online be sure and check the default time your sandwich will be ready — we arrived to pick up and told the cashier we didn’t see the ready time but we’re here now. I was ignored and left standing in the stifling heat for 20 mins. When the cashier handed me my order she says, well your order said pick up at 12:30 so they held onto it. If we hadn’t already paid we would have left. So much for communication. Again, this doesn’t happen when the friendly, efficient owner is cashiering.

A hidden hole in the wall, but oh so good! We ordered the pastrami and the chicken salad and both were delicious! The bread is out of this world, and pretty affordable for the gigantic sandwiches. We were starving and I was full after the first half, so if you don’t have the appetite of a lumberjack, split it with someone. Minus one star for the gross bathroom. It reeked of urine and definitely needed a thorough cleaning.

Nice tasting sandwich for close to $ 8. I recommend #26. That is the ONLY sandwich I get. The tender chicken breast, creamy basil sauce and signature sourdough are very satisfying. Minus one star for the price & presentation. In my opinion, you can get a comparable sammie at Safeway. The tasty, palate cleansing pickle also soaks through the packaging, making your lunch susceptible to finding its way to the ground! Minus another star for service. This place gets crazy busy during lunch time. I called in my order(8 sammies) prior to picking it up. It was ready when I arrived. She read my order back to me, rang me up, & sent me on my way. However, she seemed frazzled at the lengthy line forming behind me. When I got back to work(20 mins later), I found out a sandwich was missing. My bad for trusting her & not actually checking the bag.

I tried Michael’s sourdough for the first time last week. My boyfriend raved about how this place is so good well of course my expectations were high! Yea it’s not that great! I seriously do not see what’s good about this place. The sandwich was decent but It wasn’t horrible but I wasn’t impressed. I could have made a much better sandwhich at home! I personally wouldn’t come here again!

Wow I’m almost speechless at how badly I’ve just been treated. To sum it up I called in a pick up order and explicitly described that my sandwich had to be dry nothing on it except for plain mustard meat and cheese, that I actually get an allergic reaction to their special mayo sauce. A long drive from the East Bay to pick it up(where it wasn’t ready at the time promised I might add) and then to South Marin. Starving I tore open the bag only to find absolutely everything on the sandwich — lettuce, tomato the whole shebang including gobs of the mayo spread oozing out. So of course I can’t eat it and there’s no way in hell I was going to throw away $ 8 on a sandwich and stay starving. So I called explained everything and asked to at least get a root beer or something thrown in for all of the trouble. This was agreed on the phone after being put on hold. Leaving the other food to get cold went all the way back to Michael’s with the inedible sandwich where they were astoundingly non apologetic and didn’t even follow through with the gesture of a lousy soda. Seriously. I honestly can’t wrap my head around how anyplace could treat a customer so poorly after screwing up, much less a place that I’ve known for decades back when it first started with an always smiling friendly Michael at the helm. Sadly this will be the last Michael’s Sourdough I order for any reason.

I’ve stopped at Michael’s many times. You can get a solid sandwich. Be prepared for a bit of line during lunch periods of the day. I’ve tried several their sandwiches and they are very good. They have some very good dressing for the sandwiches which really helps bring out the flavor Very friendly staff, locally owned, run establishment.

I love the #4 sandwich. So damn good. Efficient service and line management, parking here sometimes sucks. Assortments of chips, drinks, cookies and candy to choose from. The only negative thing is one of the cashiers there is a smug asshole. She’s the tall Caucasian lady. It’s apparently impossible for her to hand you your sandwich without that disgusted look on her face and supreme agitation in her voice. She treats you like some kind of criminal dirtbag, not a hungry customer.

Michaels is great for a fresh sourdough sandwich. Think twice before you order online in order to save time. Which would you prefer, your order done correctly or avoiding a longer wait? Last time I ordered online I selected pepper jack cheese and received Swiss cheese. Today, I selected pepper jack cheese and decided to add a comment requesting pepper jack and no Swiss please. I got pepper jack today, but got the special spread on my sandwich when I only requested yellow mustard. I am unsure if their online ordering system is just screwed up or if the sandwich makers just don’t care but I am never ordering online again.

This spot is tucked in from the 580 just minutes away from the Richmond/San Rafael bridge. It is located in the industrial part of San Rafael, and you can’t see it from the freeway. The place is clean, has about a dozen tables, and gets packed during lunch hour. They offer about 20 sandwich specials, and you can create your own. I ordered the roast turkey and pastrami on the namesake sourdough. It was a great sandwich! They also have an assortment of kettle chips, all kinds of beverages, and whole kosher pickles for 99 cents. If you’re hungry and close to San Rafael, grab a sandwich at this place.

Anything you get here is going to be a 5 star sandwich from my experience and from my coworkers’ experience that I go with. The portions are huge, the sourdough is bomb, and it tastes really good. I’ve gotten the Reuben and the Sourdough before I really loved everything about it. The Sourdough is incredibly meaty(beef, ham, and roasted turkey with swiss cheese). The Reuben is a great hot sandwich with corned beef, sauerkraut and swiss cheese.
