Been going to Rick and Gretchen since my first pair of glasses, 12 years ago.
Often running in and out to have them fixed, I always have the best service, attention and patience from them.
Just entered the (scary) world of contacts. Rick spent hours with me. Even gave me his cel number for over the weekend.
If you appreciate old-​fashioned customer service, don’t go anywhere else. I think Rick took the business over from his father, and he continues that priceless experience of true service from the moment you enter the store.

Rick was able to fit me for contact lenses after my previous brand stopped making my line of lenses. I had gone to a few others before him, and no one could find something that comfortably fit the curvature of my eyes. Rick got it done. He was so kind, professional, and made the process easy after several others couldn’t do it. Thank you!

I’ve bought a pair of eyeglasses there and had a hearing aid repaired. In both cases, what sets Oliva above the rest is intelligent, gracious service and a willingness to make things right. I single out Gretchen especially, with owner Rick a close second. I’d visit them again, and find them so much superior to their competitors on the same street.

I have known Rick Oliva for about 15 years. I had a difficult to fill lens prescription for years before eye surgery and he astounded me by how much time and care he devoted to getting me the best possible results. Later, when I needed new hearing aids, I turned to him. I’ve worn hearing aids since I was three and he is, by far, the best of the many audiologists I have dealt with. He clearly cares about excellence in everything he does and about providing the best service possible. This is more important to him than money. He is a rare breed.

After spending much time and money at discount eyeglass «factories» and even small shops, I never really got a pair of glasses the were 100%. I was referred to Oliva Optical, and have been going there for years, now. The staff are wonderful, service is excellent and they stand behind their products.
Back to the HERO part:
One evening while watching TV, I happened to rub my right eye. When I did that, I realized I had no central vision in my left eye. I was frightened, to say the least. I saw an eye professional who referred me to a laser eye surgeon, at a reputable firm in San Rafael. The laser surgeon told me relax, it will go away, in time.
I went back to Rick with my new eyeglass prescription and shared my diagnosis with Rick. He told me, «No,» I have been fitting you with glasses for years, something is not right. You need to go right back there and request the top doc. Extensive tests were done. I was referred to a retina surgeon in San Francisco, immediately.
Rick literally saved the sight in my left eye. The surgeon who repaired my macular hole was great, but had I waited as instructed by the local laser surgeon, my outcome could very easily have been much less than desirable and possibly infeasible. My advice, stick with Rick. He is the BEST. He knows his clients and he looks after us.
I have an appointment with my retina surgeon coming up, will keep you posted.

Never ignore a vision issue, no matter how small it may seem. Get a second, and third opinion.

Rick is so personable and he really knows glasses! I went in there with my friend and he spent 20 minutes with her letting her try on different frames and recommending ones that would fit her face.
I had recently sat on a pair of my own glasses and though I had no intention of buying anything that day, Rick kindly «took the tension» off the hinge and was able to fix my Coach glasses!
I am so thankful for his professionalism and kindness. THANK YOU RICK!

I am so impressed with Richard Oliva of Oliva Optical! He has taken the time to ensure my contacts feel perfect and had me try on several pairs to determine which were right for my eyes, which are a bit tricky due to LASIK.
Backstory: About 5 years ago, I had LASIK surgery to correct my –8.0 vision. I had worn contacts for about 20 years before the surgery, but nobody ever methodically ensured the lenses sat perfectly on my cornea and felt comfortable like Richard has done today. He had me try on daily lenses, two-​week lenses, and has even ordered another size to see if that version will sit with more stability on my LASIK’ed eyes.
He even sent me home with several daily wear lenses to try, as well as another pair of 2-​week lenses, in case my current ones don’t keep my eyes happy or if just want to experiment.
I highly recommend Oliva Optical and am very happy that I was referred to him. I’ll be a loyal customer from now on.

Still great. They had an issue with the vendors that provide my hearing aid molds, but because it took a month to iron out, I got my molds for free! That’s customer service.

Rick Oliva cares about one thing — the customer. I signed up for a year-​long contact lens fitting service. After 30 years of wearing the same type of lens and prescription, it was time to get a more comfortable brand and integrated magnification for reading. Rick shared all sorts of information with me and In the first month had me test 5 or 6 different pairs of lenses. I can see so much better, and Rick is tracking my eyes’ quick return to health (I abused the old lenses).
I trust Oliva Optical and recommend Rick to anyone. Worth every penny.

I have to say they are nice people, they have a nice selection but this store is a hold up.
I went to get glasses and the cost was way toooo much. $ 1,000 for my prescription glasses, which by the way were not a designer brand name.
They overprice and there is not question about it.

I was extremely happy with the service and price at Oliva Optical. The service and selection was first rate. They have a large selection of sunglasses and reading glasses.
With so many suggestions, I had a hard time deciding on glasses for my son, it came down to 2 different pairs. They special ordered both selections in his size, just so we could see them both! Unheard of! I was so impressed by them wiling to to do this I ended up buying a pair of Maui Jim’s for me. Great glasses, had them for a couple of months and broke them, totally my fault. Brought them back, they got them fixed, no charge to me!
Impressed again! I could go on and on, but rest assured if you want excellent service and selection from an owner-​operated business, look no further. I will definitely be back…
