Amazing food. Amazing owners. I recommend anything under the chef suggestions. I like this place because everything is relatively reasonably priced. You can come here with a friend and easily order three entrées for you to share and not break the bank. I recommend the coconut ice cream with the fried banana for dessert. I know the owners son through my boyfriend and they are great people. Go support local families by eating amazing Thai food!

Some of the best thai I’ve ever eaten. Everything I’ve eaten from there, from the coconut soup, to the yellow curry, to the pad thai, is the best of that item I’ve eaten. Highly recommended.

So very bummed to report my best friend got and still has food poisoning from their shrimp pad Thai :(We all got different items off the menu the other day, and all had barely eaten much all day — the only logical explanation for it was the shrimp. My best friend had to miss my birthday dinner tonight because she’s been up since 6am with it, so disappointed. Safe to say we will not be returning if they cannot make sure their food is fresh.

The best Thai food you can find in Marin County in my opinion. Excellent food, friendly staff. If I had to complain about anything it would be the parking. Can be pain when they are really busy but it’s worth it.

I’ve eaten here a couple of times and both meals have been excellent. Their wall is full of awards and I can see why. They are located in a Victorian house that creates a pleasant environment(such a nice change from the open, echo chambers that have been so popular lately). Spice level is nice and flavors are well balanced.

Service was great. Chicken wings were crispy and juicy but I didn’t care much for the sauce. Unfortunately, their extra spicy is not spicy. I’d try them again

Until now, Royal Thai has been our favorite San Rafael Thai restaurant(followed by My Thai and then Thai Smile). However after our experience a few nights ago, My Thai has overtaken it. The Wonton Soup was very good. It was served in a nice ornate serving dish with its own flame warmer — nice touch. The server spooned it in for us, too — nicer touch. We were very satisfied with this. We often get the same salmon filet dish. We’ve gotten it 3 or 4 times so far. This time its flavor(seasoning) was still very good, but the fish didn’t smell fresh — it smelled fishy. I had the same experience when heating up the leftovers. With this being our entrée, that was a very unfortunate development. The Thai iced tea has remained consistently awful. It tastes like they made it with paint thinner. I had unfortunately forgotten about that since not having ordered it since our first visit. Now I am reminded not to order it again. And yet it is also only $ 3 where most other restaurants charge $ 5. I’d rather pay $ 5 and want to drink it. The server was attentive. He also charged us for only 1 order of rice though we had 3 — another nice touch. I also like the containers they use for take-out: Plastic with sealed lids that appear to actually seal and not leak. So I would very much like to see this restaurant back at 4 stars in my book. But the fish is going to have to be fresher for me to see it that way. IMO, freshness of ingredients is simply something that must always be consistently high for me to feel satisfied.

Everything is excellent. I can’t express this enough. I’ve been eating there for years and have not been disappointed. The avocado salad, listed on the special list, is my favorite. Restaurant is clean, well maintained, and reasonably priced. 5 stars.

Well, what to say. Food is good and I have been going there for decades. Ambience is one of the best in the area. The staff can be quite aloof. The menu is good as is sense of authenticity. However, I’m not eager to return given the airs from staff; really put a damper on things.

This is by all means the best Thai place in Marin. It might be a bit pricy, but you get what you pay for. Great food, good service, great experience.

Royal Thai is always great! I have been to Thailand & love Thai food. I always get Pad Kee Mow, which is big flat rice noodles stir fried with chicken, basil, peppers. Its a spicy yummy combination. I also get the chicken Satay. The chicken Satay here offers big skewers with very fresh tasting curry spice with a side of peanut sauce for dipping. This dish is served with sticky rice & there were a good amount of skewers. I also get the Tom Ka Gai Soup which is different here than anywhere else! Its different because the coconut is rich and creamy. Just like in Thailand! Also they serve it with a small side of plain thin rice noodle to pour your soup over. It is very filling. The Lunch menu is wonderful! The service is very good.

They have been here a long time. Maybe the 1st Thai Restaurant in San Rafael. They have the best food and prices anywhere. I know. I lived in SE Asia for a long time. Skilled palate. :-)

I have been to many Thai restaurant in CA and FL. So far Royal thai ISTHEWORSTFROMFOODTOSERVER. My son cried once and some angry man came up to us and ask us to leave. So, if you have a toddler, never come to this place. The guy server looks very mad. This is how they treat customers. Tom Yum soup taste sweet like a whole bag of sugar was added. That’s the only food we tasted before ugly mad server came up to us. Im glad I did not end up paying all our food, coz the soup itself taste terrible. Not recommended.

Had a great time with my wife last night. The owner was nice and educated us on the crab appetizer, and helped us cut the whole fried fish we ordered. Everything was excellent and we will go again, maybe next week.

After many visits to this restaurant over the years, I expected better service when I ordered food for a special lunch that I was delivering to a dozen teachers and administrators at the local middle school. I called ahead to place my order the day before and was told what time to arrive to pick up my order. Not only was the food not ready, they told me that I might have to wait an additional 20 minutes(which would have made me late for the school’s lunch time). When I asked for help carrying the trays of food to my car, she simply said, «no, we are busy.» I was hoping to be able to support this restaurant for many other lunch deliveries to the staff over the course of the year — but have decided that I’d rather support another local restaurant that appreciates my business instead.

Pro’s Server was very attentive. Menu was extensive with 5 pages of choices. Appetizer was delicious. Dinner was delicious. See receipt. Reasonable price. Tea was great. Con’s Hard to find the entrance. First walked upstairs, that’s not it. Then went downstairs to where the address number is, that’s not it. Finally figured out to go in the courtyard. Should be more well marked.

I think this is the best Thai food in Marin County by far. Very convenient location too to central Marin Look at all of the Best of Marin Awards this place has won over the years! I used to eat here 15 years ago and thought that the food was excellent back then as well. I cannot imagine why some people would give this place bad reviews. Sometimes the food comes out in less than 5 minutes after you order. I was so impressed with my meal today. Their home made chili condiment with garlic and lime juice is perhaps the best Thai chili concoction I have ever eaten. Every time I come here I find the food to be excellent. I don’t give five star reviews to many restaurants in Marin County but this place deserves them. Pad thai and green curry chicken are SIX stars.
