Smog Check Express

This guy will rip you off, first he told me That my car is old and won’t qualify for the 19.95 $ and I will have to pay 45 $ if I pass and 35 $ if I fail and to retest I will pay an extra 28 $ !!! I told him i trust my car and and I am sure my car will pass as it is in great shape. After he did the test he told me my timeing belt is off and that will fail my car… What is that have to do with emissions??? Anyway he continued the test and told it fail and I will have to take it to the mechanic and fix it then come back to redo the test.
I didn’t believe him and took it valero gas station at larkspur and it was totally fine and passed the test for 58 $ and i get a free 35 $ car wash. Bottom line he will RIP YOU OFF.

So fast, straight forward, and pleasure to deal with Carlos. I also had a minivan and was only charged $ 28 for the completed check and certification.

This place was as good as it gets for Smog compliance time! There is a sign off the road and the Unilocal pictures are good enough for a visual to find the place as you’re driving by. There are at least 4 different business names online and everywhere else so keep track of the address.
In the last few months some laws have changed and they no longer have to hook the meter to your tailpipe if the car is year 2000 or newer. So we pulled up, luckily there was no line, they got our info and plugged the OBDII machine into the car. He did a visual inspection of the engine and exhaust lines, then test ran for 5 minutes. Done deal! The employee was very friendly, which, if you have been to a bunch of different smog places, is almost never the case.
We were in and out in 10 minutes. Pay in cash and pull up the coupon on your phone and you will walk out of the shop for under $ 30 (inspection + DMV certificate). I think if you want the «deal» and do not pay cash they tack on an additional $ 2 – 3. This is a money and time saver. Cheers!

This place is so great. There wasn’t a line, and it was the fastest, most reasonable smog check I’ve ever had. It took ten minutes tops — by the time I had finished up the paperwork, the check was already done. Not ashamed to admit I’m a bit of a novice (if had my dad take care of my last smog check a few years back), so it was a load off to see how perfectly professional they all were and how easy they made it. Super recommended — extremely reasonable, too!

Thank you to Tracey A. for the great review. I came midday. The service, by Jose, was expedient, inexpensive and friendly. I will definitely be coming back. It’s much less expensive and they didn’t even charge extra for my minivan. It was about half an hour from pulling up to having my car registered online with the DMV (since they submit the results electronically). Fantastic.

These guys are rip offs. They messed up on my paperwork I ended up getting a ticket waisted a day at dmv to find out they wrote the wrong vin number in. I had the original paperwork and receipt from them, showed them my charge on my bank statement and still charged me to redo my smog. Cheap place for smogs but bad service.

What gives? Is this place is in the Witness Protection Program?

And then when you drive up there seems to be no sign at all.
But if you find it, well, you’ve found the cheapest smog check site in Marin, just like Google promised.
A Unilocal check-​in offer gets you a smog check for $ 19.75 (+$ 8.25 standard certificate fee if your car passes). I was quoted a discounted rate of $ 80 for a smog check in Mill Valley:
$ 80 — $ 28 = $ 52 in savings. Why would you go anywhere else?
Okay, I’ll tell you:
* The person working here might tell you to call for an appointment. Why he does so is inexplicable. He pays no attention to any appointment you might have scheduled and each car ahead of you will take about 15 — 20 minutes.
* While you wait there is seating for 1, a chair. It’s inside the garage in the same area as your car. God knows what you’re breathing. Stand around outside for improved longevity.
* In addition to the Unilocal check-​in offer there’s another Unilocal offer for this same business: $ 200 for $ 400 worth of work. The receipt clearly states that they’re authorized only to perform smog checks, not repairs to vehicles which fail to pass, so unless you plan for several lifetimes of smog checks I can’t figure out how this deal will benefit you.
* They won’t start any new smog checks much past 5:30 p.m. The DMV computer closes down (or so they say). They must complete the smog check in advance of the DMV computer «closure».
* They charge «a few dollars extra» if you pay by credit card. Pay cash.
Still, you’re gonna save $ 52; that’s a lot of dough. (The online ad says they charge an additional $ 10 for SUVs and other large vehicles; they didn’t charge extra for my small SUV).
Whatever they’re called I’m just going to call them the cheapest smog check in Marin.

Awesome price, awesome service. Once he started on my car it took 6 minutes. Definitely recommend you go here to get your car smoged.

What started as good customer service (that I just found out was illegal?) it has become the worse service imagine able. They let me walk away from the first test when I was there because it was going to fail, my sensors hadn’t been reset after a servicing, so I made an appointment two weeks later. I called the morning of and was told they would mark me down for 4pm. When I showed up at 4pm there was a car being smogged, and two cars waiting to get smogged. I was told by the man working that they do not accept appointments and I have to wait for the other cars who showed up with no appointments. When I insisted that defeats the purpose in making an appointment he told me to deal with it.
He claimed it was his first day working there and that he did not know what I wanted him to do. I told him I wanted my car to be smogged, and that I didn’t have time to wait an hour which is why I scheduled an appointment. His only remedy was that I go park my car and wait, and that he would not even give me a discount.
I went next door to the other smog station and they immediately helped me. They also informed me that it is illegal to stop a smog during the middle of the process because the car is going to fail. (What happened next door). They are the worst, border line criminal.

I called this company yesterday to make sure the Unilocal deal was still in effect and said I wanted to come in today. The man I spoke with said that it was and HE recommended I make an appointment stating that they make them for every 15 minutes.
I showed up at my appointment time to find the place just opening at 11:00. The man I spoke with told me he had to calibrate the machine and that it would take 45 minutes to do that. He also told me that they don’t make reservations and doesn’t know who it was I could have spoken with the day before. No idea, really?
No integrity, no business.

Got in and out in less than 20 minutes and took advantage of the Unilocal check-​in deal! Remember that it is a cash only deal!!! $ 28 for my Camry is a deal because it makes no sense to have to pay $ 40 or even $ 50. I would recommend anyone who needs a smog check to come here for the ease and price.

The Smog Check Express was fast even with 2 cars ahead of me. The van is an additional $ 10, but the total bill was cheap. The owner was very professional. I highly recommend this place.

$ 39 total out the door for a smog check. In and out quick. Not much else to say. Not fancy but they get the job done quick and cheap.

This is a great place to get your smog check done quickly. It is all that he does so he is very quick and efficient. To top it off, his price is the best price I have found and is hard to beat!
