Within feet of the canal, you can talk to Army Corp of Engineers about the canel, the wildlife nearby, and history. They have a neat boat that you can climb in and lots of material (written, audio, video, and digital) about the canal and surrounding areas.

It’s free and fun, so why not? The only reason why it’s 4 out of 5 stars is that the bathrooms are in a separate building across the parking lot and close in the Fall/​Winter.

This Visitors Center looks unassuming on the outside but is really nice on the inside. They have free maps and tide timetables of course, but also a real tugboat you can walk inside, a diorama of the cape with lights and information about specific areas, a spot to try out tying different knots, an interactive exhibit on flag signal language, and some cool stuff on radar. I could see this being a great place to bring kids for free entertainment, but it’s also fun for adults.
After you check it out, there’s a great beach close by with stone breakwater you can walk out on, and Seafood Sams is across the street for some tasty food. This is a great area to spend an afternoon.

There is no way to take anything away from the amazing people that run this excellent organization. They are well trained, extremely courteous and are there to help with anything you may need. I am surprised to see anything less than perfect comments on here. You must stop by when near, it is a perfect moment of time and with almost no charge, what more could anyone really want?

This weekend while on Cape we decided to take a walk at the canal and parked at the visitor center. The visitors center itself was closeed, but it was nice to park in their lot and walk down to the beach and jetty at the end of the canal.
The other great thing about the visitor center was that even though the center itself was closed, the bathrooms were open. The facilities themselves were clean and it was nice to be able to use them before hitting the road again.
Overall, we are happy that we chose this as the spot to start our walk and will definitely come again.

We stopped by the visitor’s center on a whim and I was amazed at how cool it was! It’s actually a free museum that lets you learn all about the Cape Cod Canal– how and why it was built, what it looks like from the air, etc. There are many hands on exhibits, and even a real patrol boat inside the center that you can climb aboard and explore!
The area around the center is really pretty. You can walk along the Canal down to the beach for gorgeous views and fresh sea air!
