Dr. Gary Carter was born in Maryland. He spent his early years in Baltimore where he attended elementary school, high school, and received a bachelor’s degree from Loyola College in 1980.

In 1984, he received his dental degree from the University of Maryland Dental School. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with several scholastic achievement awards and was ranked seventh out of 124 dental students. After graduation, he was commissioned by the United States Air Force as a dental officer and he completed an advanced general dentistry residency during the first year of his Air Force career.

After eight years as a general dentist, Dr. Carter earned a highly competitive Air Force scholarship and attended the University of Michigan where he received his Master of Science degree in Orthodontics. He chose the University of Michigan because it is a traditional leader in the field of orthodontic research and education.
