This place is not in a nice area. Homeless people were hanging out in the parking lot. I was scared to be there with my young daughter. The store is dirty and disorganized. Despite all this I came here 3 times (without my daughter and in broad daylight after the first trip). The first time I came they were still open but had already turned off the machines that cut the foam. So it was a wasted trip. 2^nd time they were closed. That’s my fault since I should have checked, but I just assumed that at 3:15 on a Saturday that they would be open. I persisted since I was told the prices were good but I’m not sure that is even true. The 3^rd time they said it would be 35 minutes to cut one piece of foam (4×5 feet). Why does it take so long?! There was only one other customer in the store and 3 employees. The one positive is that the employees are friendly.

Super great and easy place to go to in order to ‘refresh’ my couch. Highly recommend it. And whomever has written that the place smells awful — it smells like the materials that they sell. It isn’t awful — it just is what it is!

What a great place! Both Eddie and Mike were so very helpful in choosing the correct foam and having it precisely cut to our specifications. Prices were great… we are just so happy to have found this place.
I don’t get the bad comments on customer service — our experience was just the opposite — they went out of their way to help us.

I walked into this store with the intent to purchase foam. This place was so smelly I couldn’t get air. I ended up buying nothing because when asked for help they offered none and told me to find what I want on my own. It’s packed with stuff with no order. I left and had a cough that lasted months. Terrible. I don’t know if it’s from the flame retardants the foam has or just the foam. Don’t go people unless you want to get a taste of what hell.

Wow, has some sagging back seats on our living room couch. Was going to get a new set but thought I’d look into re-​upholstering them first. Took them over to A1 and they made the process super easy and affordable .
Saved a ton of money re upholstering our couch! I would suggest you do the same.

This is for the Moreno Valley location. Finally stopped by after seeing it from the freeway. Great selection of upholstery at really great prices. I bought two heavy bags of leather remnants for $ 10. Bargain!

I took two large couch cushions in based on other Unilocal reviews and was very happy with the results. My cushions were lumpy and shapeless but with new foam inserts, they are perfect! It was a Saturday and a little crowded so we had a short wait, but the gentleman at the counter measured and priced it for us quickly and they were done and ready for pick-​up 1.5 hours later. Only cost me $ 59 for both, which saved me from having to buy an entire new couch!

Great selection of product, but when called few minutes ago to ask few questions about firmness and cost of foam available on display, a gentleman rudely interrupted my question «you sound not sure about a lot of things, so I’m not sure either» so I just asked if they have different varieties of foam on display since… and before I finish he interrupted me again «yah we have plenty of foam.»
I am sure they have what I need, but I was disappointed they showed no desire answering questions on the phone.

Picked up everything we needed for a head board project and had two couch cushions refoamed. Mike was very helpful with our newb upholstery questions and gave us just what we needed to do it right. We needed buttons and they let us stamp out custom buttons with their tools at a fraction of the price from craft stores. They did the cushions in a couple of hours while we ran errands. They turned a lumpy uncomfortable couch into something nice. And the best thing it was very reasonable. We will be back with more cushions.

A-​1 is a great place to get quality foam products at bargain prices. I have used A-​1 for my foam bed mattress toppers for years and have recommend them to all of my family and friends. You don’t need to waste money on an expensive mattress these days. Just stick with what you got and come to A-​1 and get a 2−4″ foam mattress topper custom fit to your bed size. It’s life changing. You spend so much time sleeping and quality of sleep is so important, it’s silly not to have a ridiculously comfortable bed. For $ 80-​$ 200 you can be dialed in to «sleeping on a cloud» status. I agree with the other reviewer that it’s also awesome to be able to get specialty Mexican candy next door, which I always do! The customer service has always been great when I go in, and my orders usually are ready for pick up (I’m local) within 24 – 48 hours after placing my order.

I was thrilled to see that A-​1 had fabrics options to buy online, and even more so that they had a clearnace/​closeout section. Found what I needed and placed and order on the spot.
3 days later, my order still showed up as pending so I gave them a call to see what was up.
The person that answered gave the vibe that they had much more important things to do than take calls from inquisitive customers.
After being placed on hold and asked «what’s your name again?» at least 3 different times, they finally got back on the line and told me that they couldn’t find the fabric I ordered. I was pretty disappointed, but I wanted to give A-​1 another try as the online prices seemed pretty competitive.
I selected the fabric I wanted and gave them a call to make sure it was actually in stock before I placed another online order.
Again, I got a whole lot of ‘tude from the woman that answered. She said she didn’t know if they had the fabric. I gave her the item number and she said that pulled up way to many different fabrics to go through. Then she told me to just «give it a try».
I tired to convey that I am a local business that likes to buy locally and that I’d really like to be able to purchase from them on a regular basis but I that I needed to be able to have confidence that my orders were going through. That prompted no sort of reaction…
I’d say, at the very least, their processes for inventory and item numbering are sub-​par. And that they’ve got some seriously dis-​interested employees.
I WILL NOT be shopping here again, which is unfortunate because like I said, I like to keep my bussiness local. But in this case, I’m willing to travel!

Pretty big shop with lots of different foams and a ton of vinyls. Other stuff you might need to repair furniture too, I was in there to get some stuff for a motorcycle seat. The guy helping me walked me through it, answered my questions politely and took me to what I wanted quick enough. Real people behind the counter, let them know what you’re trying to do and they’ll help you out however they can, not like big shops where what they offer is cut-​and-​dry, and most of the time not helpful. They also have some «scrap» foam and vinyl for cheap, I got some scrap foam and vinyl and some closed cell foam all for under $ 15. Cool shop, definitely would come back for whatever I need.

Great customer service and reasonable prices. I walked in was greeted within seconds and was directed to Mike who assisted me with replacement foam for my 2 chair cushions. He advised what would work best for me and didn’t pressure me for the most expensive. Very satisfied, can’t recommend them enough.

Only local online place I could find that makes custom foam replacements for seat cushions. Filled out the order form online with all the dimensions and it was on my doorstep within a week. The new cushions revived my couch and I actually enjoy it once again, pretty much as good as new.
Though I did pay retail because I placed order online and didn’t try to haggle, overall I’m very satisfied. Only paid $ 150 for custom cushions instead who knows for a new couch. But in the future will definitely find out how to get $ 10 per cushion.

You know, the crap reviews of this place really blow me out of the water. The fact that I can get cold Mexican Coke at the supermarket next door, and hit up the candy shop two stores down, just amps up my positive memories.
I’ve never purchased any fabric from here, but let’s talk about the rest:
1) The foam. Cheap and high quality. 3 inches thick, cut to measure, and very firm. Cut while I wait. So super fast. Around $ 10 per seat for kitchen chairs. Cheapest I’ve seen anywhere, and super convenient.
Edit 4÷24÷14: Just recently got new 5 inch foam for my couch cushions and it was $ 40 for each cushion, 22×24 inches.
2) The leather spray-​color. I «refinished» an entire leather couch and recliner with six cans of their magical leather spray. Not only does it leave the leather soft and supple, the color penetrates and there is no odd smell. Each can is $ 10, so I took a free (and really grody) couch and transformed it for only $ 60.
3) The colored leather bonder. I had a 3 inch rip in the above mentioned couch. The colored bonder is like glue in a spray can. Using the colored bonder (in the same color as the leather spray-​color), I first «glued» the rip together. I allowed it to sit and tack up before wiping away the excess with a lightly soapy, rung out washcloth. After drying, I repeated again just to make sure the rip was securely patched. After going over this newly patched area with the matching spray color, the rip has almost completely disappeared.
Anyway, the four stars is mainly for the quality of these products, which are crazy cheap for the result, and have consistently given me miracles. A-​1 is a diamond to me in an otherwise rough part of town.

I showed up at around 6 mins of closing and they denied me of service. They were very rude. Not how to treat a customer who was about to spend 900.00 on foam.

Great foam & fabric for cars, furniture, & industrial uses. The store has a great selection at fair prices. Staff is very helpful and knowledgeable.
*This place is located in a working class area of Santa Ana. Thus, it is not in a posh neighborhood.

Crafty momma here — writing to say A-​1 Foam and Fabric and Upholstery is my shopping location for firm foam, pillow forms or upholstery fabric. I shop at A-​1 when I can’t get to downtown LA’s garment district or when I just don’t want to deal with the chaos — the hustle and bustle of the garment district. LA can get a little crazy with the crowds of shoppers. Plus, A-​1 has a huge selection of upholstery fabric and at the same reasonable prices as in LA. And when I compare it to Joanne’s, A-​1 is far more reasonable for upholstery fabric.
A-​1 only carries upholstery fabrics and car upholstery fabrics. They have an abundant selection of car upholstery, carpet and car foam. The foam selection is impressive as is the upholstery fabric selection. Only, looking for a particular fabric you have your sights on can be like looking for a needle in a hay stack here. They have way too much fabric choices that it can get overwhelming finding what you are looking for in store. I recommend asking for help from the staff. They are very helpful. If they don’t have what you are looking for, chances are they can order it.
As Karen H. wrote, the store has a funky fume smell as you walk in. As I walked in, I thought, «What the hell? I’m gonna get high smelling these fumes.» But the smell dissipated once I got past the entrance and was further in store. Made me realize though, the poor employees are smelling those same fumes everyday. Not good. The store’s owner needs to install some vacuum fans and do something about that smell.
Hold your nose as you walk in and get past the entrance. You should be alright once you get past the fumes smell.

I thought this might be an interesting place to find unusual fabrics or great clearance items to use in crafting, so I visited their store on Main Street in Santa Ana. It was disgusting. The fabric selection is primarily for upholstery, but even then it was horrible. It was dark, dirty, the parking lot had a barbed wire-​topped fence, and it smelled awful. One good thing, the folks working there were very attentive and friendly. Maybe better if you’re just looking for upholstery foam. Definitely not for the casual fabric shopper.
