California Palms Apartments

I enjoy living here at California Palms first of all everyone here including the staff are very friendly and greet you well, it is very quiet and peaceful even though harbor Blvd can get a little busy at rush hour, but other than that everything you need is walking distance, I really like that you can enjoy a cup of coffee, watch tv, have free WiFi at the lounge area located at the 901 building, and it’s FREE, I highly recommend this place to live.

First let me start with the positive the grounds are well kept and Stacey who works in the office is all ways helpful then there’s Joe and Anthony who are two of the maintenance workers they are always willing to do all they can to fix what ever is wrong and that’s about all the positive things about this place
It’s infested with cockaroaches it doesn’t matter how many times they come and spray the apartment they always come back within two to three days I had them spraying my apartment every month plus I bought my own pesticides and still had roaches and I also kept a clean apartment but since the roaches live in the walls they would come through the vents ceiling fans I even saw them come through the light sockets
If you ever need anything fixed I suggest you talk to Stacey if you talk to Mindy she will try and charge you for it and make sure you document every single inperfection you see in the apartment or else you will get charged for it when you move out and forget about you getting your full deposit back when you move out they will find something to charge
If you own more than one car you will be forced into getting a lift or a reserved parking spot which is an extra $ 55 honestly if you can afford the rent here you can get a much better place the apartments use to be a motel so they are tiny I would consider them studios even the one bedrooms are small the ac that they give you only cools the living room/​dining room which is OK if you get a studio but if you get a one bedroom you will need to get some fans because in the summer it gets really hot and the ac will not cool the bedroom and the walls are really thin I could hear my neighbors all the time
I would not recommend living here there are much better places you can live at for the same price the only reason I’m giving this place two stars is because of Joe and Stacey who are always willing to help.

I really miss this place. I wish we could come back. But i wish california palms could help people arranging the down payment. We live in a hotel and its very hard to come up with the 2 thousand downpayment we need for the studio :(

The staff is really friendly, Stacey and Mindy at the front desk have always been helpful. The custodian Joe M. fixed my ceiling fan issues and unclogged my sink shortly after I put in a work order. Never had issues with AC unit so that’s a plus.
I’m taking off a star because of the parking situation. Each apartment unit should have an assigned parking spot with a shelter, which it doesn’t. Took off another star because of the pest situation. This place does have bugs and tiny cockroaches. I know it’s something that can be tricky to resolve but I would of liked to see more effort put into the problem during the year I stayed here.
Fun fact, this place used to be a Motel 6 which got converted into apartment suites hence the blocky layout and lack of patios

I can’t believe this place is getting so many positive reviews, it must be rigged. Had an awful horrible experience living here from the day we moved in until the day we moved out. Giant bugs, specifically cockroaches, EVERYWHERE. There was a dead dog just laying wrapped in blankets by the side of the pool one afternoon. And don’t get me started on the staff! The African American woman was rather nice, but seemed scared 100% of the time. Not the place for her, she deserves to work at a much nicer establishment. Now the main manager in the back office was just horrible. I felt like she had no consideration for the safety of her residents she could care less about any complaints and was very unprofessional. I have never met such an awful property manager. As a human being and a manager she was not a good person. Don’t live here. Way over priced and dangerous.

This place is awful. I cannot wait to move out. There are bugs everywhere and the management is not helpful at all. The African American lady at the front desk is super kind and extremely helpful, however the other woman in her office is not helpful and seems annoyed anytime somebody asks for something. Not very friendly at all… The insides of the places are nice besides being able to here every single noise in your neighbors apartments. But people are nice who live here just wish I lived somewhere else.

I have been living here with my husband about 8 months, and I have to really commend the maintenance staff, especially Joel Macias. He is really professional and friendly and has always helped us when we needed assistance. He even helped my husband with some car troubles, which he did not have to do. It’s always nice to live in a place where you can really count on the staff.

This review is long overdue! I lived at California palms for 1 year and 8 months. During that period, it was not just an apartment or a place to live at, but my personal sanctuary. When I moved in, California palms had 1.5 stars on
. the only reason I moved in was it was affordable, had a ton of stores near by and was close to work. Over that time period I’ve seen Mindy put in amazing efforts into transforming this community and she’s done a wonderful job! Everything about this place is loveable, the staff, the grounds, the neighbors, the facilities. The security was amazing. Being a single woman and new to California, I never felt frightened once inside the gates. There are all kinds of stores within walking distance and a bus stop to Disneyland right outside the gate!
From singing the lease to the last processes of moving out, I’ve only had great experiences here! It was truly heartbreaking to move out.

I have nothing but great and memorable memories at California Palms. I lived there for almost 3 years and now live at another AMC property. Parking, Pets, Bbq, Gym, and the Pool have never been an issue for me. The staff is amazing. Nothing but Kudos to the whole team.

California Palm Apartments is the best… Julio, Anthony, and Joe are the best… the management, resedents are friendly and fantastic, the gym, bbq, pool, laundry areas are nice, ive been here 3 years

I’ve been a resident here for 2 years and I have to say how impressed I am. Before moving in, I read reviews on Unilocal that parking was an issue. Parking here is awesome. I’ve never NOT found a parking space. I’ve lived in 3 different apartments before I came here and I’ve never been so happy with the management company. They are very flexible and they do an absolute amazing job at satisfying their tenants. Mindy, the manager there, is wonderful. She’s helped me out so much with different accommodations and I appreciate her greatly. Thanks for your hard work! :)

Aside from the friendly staff in the leasing office, Joe has been very helpful around the apartment. Within the first month of residing here I’ve asked for minor fixes: leaky faucet, loose shower head, & needed a small item removed from the sink garbage disposal. Joe has come to the rescue everytime and has always managed to fix all requests. I feel confident in carrying out the remainder of the lease knowing Joe will help in time of need.

I’ve been living here for six months. The complex is well kept. The maintenance crew are very friendly and helpful. I had an emergency a week ago, my fire detectors kept going off randomly. I ran into Joe, told him what was happening and he helped me right away. He was extremely helpful I’m so glad he was able to help!

I’ve only been living here for one month, so I wasn’t willing to give more than three stars. A more accurate review will be left further on down the road. As of today, I only have good things to say about this complex. It’s well maintained, and the quality of my unit is well worth the rent that I’m paying. The management staff has been friendly and helpful thus far, and the neighbors that I’ve met have been friendly. So far I’ve experienced nothing that would lead me to believe that the remainder of my lease will be any different. In short, I’m pretty confident that my decision to rent at California Palms was a good one.

California palms maintenances here they are very friendly, JOE is really good he help us today fixed the restroom, thank you so much JOE your the best i highly recommend him, anything just ask him

I’ve lived here for 6 months now. I have to admit I only chose it due to its location for my job and I just got here from another state. It hasn’t been perfect, but the staff tried very hard to remedy any of my issues. Lisa, in the office is very professional and has taken care of me whenever I needed assistance. They are very welcoming. Mindy, the property manager is very thorough and the grounds are well kept; you can tell it’s from her leadership. I like the fact that there are no parking issues and that the family sizes are fairly small. The other tenants aren’t noisy or troublesome either. One thing I do wish was standard is a refrigerator. You have to bring your own or you can rent one. That is really my only gripe. Unilocal doesn’t let me do 4.5 stars but that is what I rate it. If I had a fridge it would be 5 for sure.

Previously lived here and I honestly dont relate to some of the bad reviews it has gotten. I believe my experience has been excellent. They were very attentive, understanding and pleasant. The grounds of the complex is well maintained. The apartments used to be a motel but they are totally remodeled and pleasant with a great price. The area isn’t the greatest but it defiantly isn’t the worst by far… People are seriously exaggerating. I’ve personally haven’t had any trouble wit roaches sooo maybe I’m just a very clean person or try totally skipped my apartment or I don’t know lol!!! I’ve lived here in California for three years and this has so far been my best experience. Definitely recommend checking it out.

Ok, so obviously the people who wrote the last 2 reviews are staged or just in denial. I have lived here now for 8 months and I regret not picking from my other options.
I live in a top floor unit. During the day my apartment gets hot as hell! The AC unit is nothing more than just a little fan that blows like 2 feet. In my experience it has been quiet, but the walls are paper thin. If someone is watching tv, you can hear it.
Management tries hard, but they never really do a good job. There are a lot of problems. Once, the water heater randomly stopped. I called them and they told me that the problem would be fixed soon. What that meant was that they turned off the water for like 5 hours. The heater wasn’t fixed for 2 days after that.
They once gave notice of a planned blackout the day before it happened. I was out of town and came home to a fridge full of bad food.
The apartment itself looks nice… at first. When I toured, everything seemed updated and fresh. But when I started living in it, the bathtub immediately turned this dark stained color, cracks in the walls started showing as cheap paint faded, the shower doors broke, my fridge handle broke, the list going on and on. You can call maintenance and tell them, but they always tell you that they will come sometime between an 8 hour span. But if you have to work, it’s almost impossible to get a time.
The by far biggest problem I have here are ROACHES. Literally everyday, I am terrorized by them. I keep a very neat apartment, and these bugs are always scurrying around. Tonight, I killed 10. Babies and huge ones. They crawl back into holes, which means that there are HUNDREDS of them nesting somewhere in the walls. That’s what made me write the review. I have told management, and they have sprayed, but the roaches are in the walls, so they aren’t affected. It’s so gross to see them scurrying across your bedroom and kitchen floor. Because my apartment is so hot during the day due to the lame AC unit, they love chilling out at all hours.
If you are considering living here, don’t! There are much better options. Don’t let the nice floors, good pricing and crown molding fool you. The apartments are hot, roach infested, and badly managed.

I lived here happily for two years. The grounds are very well kept and the staff are very friendly. I had nothing but positive encounters with neighbors and management.
I appreciated managements timely response to emails and phone calls. They were always friendly and professional. I also felt safe at night knowing a night guard was waking the premises from 6pm-​5am.
The pet restrictions are reasonable and I was happy to be with responsible pet owners who picked up after their dogs. I was able to take my cats outside knowing that they would be safe and clean.
Rent prices for a Studio was reasonable. I got a deal for my first year and my rent went up $ 50 for the second year. Not too horrible. When I left, I had a final walk through and was told that I would owe $ 25 for paint. When I got my deposit back it was less the $ 25 quoted as well as my last month of utilities. Everything was on the up and up. I would rent with AMC again.
All in all it was a very good experience for me.

First off, California Palms is an apartment complex. Not a hotel, suites & motor inn.
As much as I disliked this place, I’m gonna do my best to write a fair review that could be useful to anyone researching apartments.

I moved out this past weekend after my 9-​month lease came to an end.
Two weeks into my lease, I noticed a pest issue. I wasn’t sure what these bugs were since I’ve never seen them before in my life. I figured they were something similar to silverfish… Nope. Cockroaches. Fuck my life. From that point on, I’ve been coming home to battle cockroaches after work. On average 6 roaches a night. California Palms offers free pest control every Friday. I’ve had it done a few times but doesn’t seem to help.
Parking was never an issue when I first moved in. Starting in May, I’ve been having trouble finding parking when I come home after 10pm. It’s nonsense. Why do we need resident parking stickers if anyone can park in the lot? «Cars without stickers or guest permits will be towed» is what I was told. Nope. Lie. [EDIT: Supposedly, as of today, there are assigned parking spots — 1 per unit. If you have a second car, you can pay another $ 50 or so to rent out one of those 2 car lift things in the back of the parking lot.
If your unit is surrounding the pool (which is probably 90% of the units), any warm day will be a nightmare. The «air conditioner» unit is basically a LOUD, wall-​mounted fan that only cools down a 1.5ft radius. People are yelling their hearts out in the pool til 10~11pm. Neighbors are a coin toss. Some really cool, my next door neighbors were obnoxious as hell. Always yelling at the TV. I feel like he was just doing that to piss me off.
Too sleepy to continue writing about a place I don’t care about. In conclusion, there are many other better options (obviously a little more expensive) in nearby cities such as Costa Mesa, Tustin, even in Irvine.
