Orange County’s Credit Union

I’ve been with the credit union for quite some time now and I must say, they offer excellent customer service. There have been times when I was late on my loan payments but they worked with me. Also on one occasion when I was set to go out of the country, one of the representatives gave me tips and instructions on what I should do with my account. I am very proud to be a credit union member.

I am 23 years old first time getting a car loan and geeez has my experience here been horrible. First of, no one ever mentioned to me that I needed a license. So I processed all the needed paper work left work early 3 times first it was one thing then another. Now here for the 4^th time with everything I need in hand and I get skipped while waiting In line. (Not to mention I’m already annoyed because they have to run my credit for a 2^nd time) I guess I should complain next time about the long wait and I’ll get picked out from the bottom of the line just like the lady that walked in 10 min after I did. I walked in at 3:38pm it is not 4:20pm and am barely being helped. do yourself a favor and go to ANY OTHER BANK.
Update: Brenda has turned my frown upside down, she has great customer service and actually has compassion, Made me feel like she actually cares about me. Thank you Brenda you’re my go to gal from now on.

I got 2.2 percent loan on a used car with 9000 miles. I am very happy with their auto loan program.

Dont even try to get a auto loan here. I and my wife had too take a day off work to help them get there job done and get the auto loan paperwork done right. What a joke go anywhere else.

Absolutely handsdown the worse people to deal with. They are unreasonable, uneducated, and pretty much noobs. If you’re dealing with consumer banking needs it’s probably no big deal but if you are getting a loan, don’t do it. This is definitely a warning to all in the community. If you’re doing a loan, everything looks good in the front end and if you’re not clever or smart or detail oriented, you might just sign it away and get screwed but don’t know it.
But if you know what you’re doing, read the fine print. They have a loan process that promises the world to you and then day of loan funding, they switch loan terms on you but since you are already down that stretch, and spent money on appraisals and other reports, what do you do? You’ll get screwed by these guys. Then when you sign the final loan documentations, there is so much paperwork that you get tired and give up on reading. Don’t give up because there’s alot of crazy stuff in there they didn’t warn you about… read everything.
Good thing we read everything and they have information on there that allows them to do just about anything. We have plenty of loans from many different banks across the country and there has never been an instance where we’ve seen such sleezy traps like this. Don’t go here for lending or keep large amounts of money here. You’ll only benefit if you’re an employee, yeah, it’s kinda like north korea at this place.

Always a long line on pay days. Idk y but this line moves a little slower then every other Occu. But everyone here is really nice I’ve been with this place for a long time they are constantly 100% great customer service

Nothing like finally making the time to walk into a branch to open up a new account only to be told that their system is having some issues so it may take a little longer than our usual which is typically 20 – 25 minutes to open account. I’m patient so I say «that’s ok, as long as I can be done by noon» (Noon was just over an hour away). That’s when she reveals «actually I was told our system won’t be operational till about noon». Really?!! So the truth was that I would have been sitting my butt around for more than an hour before someone even helped me, that is of course if the system worked again. SMH! Just tell me the truth from the beginning. I shouldn’t have to get it out of you.

The internal computer systems are constantly breaking down. I’ve now had several issues with being unable to access my money because ‘the systems are down’. The worst part is when you call the help center they either deny that there is a problem, or say that it will be fixed in two hours. Terrible service.

I have had a savings account with OCCU for several years now and eventually decided to obtain a car loan. My car load automatically withdrawals from a different credit union account. This week I went in to withdraw $ to deposit it into my checking account bc I knew I would have other expenses and risked being unable to cover the car loan. I walked into OCCU and explain that I would withdraw from this savings to depot to other banks account to prevent overdraft. I was told they could do it from the OCCU account.
Today I realized OCCU charged my bank account for the car loan (even though it was paid already) & caused me $ 99 in overdraft fees!
I called customer service was told to print my Bank statement from checking account and visit the OCCU location to get it figured out.
They said they can’t reverse the transaction! So know I lost $ 99 due to the overdraft that was their fault!

Bad customer service. Went in on Saturday morning, bank was not busy at all. It was ghost town. I had to go to the back and look for someone to help me. Even then we had to sit and wait while employees were just standing around. All in all it took 45 min. just to replace my debit card. I won’t be coming to this branch anymore.

I cannot speak to any issues with ATMs or the actual branch as I do not do my regular banking with OCCU. However, I recently bought a car with the help of auto financing through Orange County’s Credit Union.
I worked with Tania Rodriguez and she was an absolute pleasure. She answered all of my questions and made me feel confident about my decision of using OCCU. From the easy application process and excellent interest rates, to the affordable GAP insurance and the overall customer service, I had an fantastic experience with OCCU.

After attempting to obtain a new Debit card from the jerks at the South Irvine branch in Woodbury Village I thought I would stop in the Santa Ana location and see if they were more interested in keeping a customer. As luck would have it, they were. I walked in and explained I needed a new Debit card because my current card is not being read at point of sale kiosks and then provided positive identification. I was back in my car within five minutes with a new card in tow.
No fees. No crap.
The young Hispanic woman that assisted me was courteous, friendly and smiled often. Now I wish I recalled her name as she was instrumental in my continued business with OCCU. If you live in Irvine this ought to be your home branch as it is located off the 55 and you can easily take surface streets from just about all of the Northern Villages of Irvine. The service warrants the drive.

OCCU is probably one of the best financial institution that I have ever had an account with. After approving my auto loan within 10 minutes after applying, and making it one of the most pain free process, I transferred my entire savings and checking balances to OCCU. I was also approved for a HELOC with OCCU when Wells Fargo denied me. Well Fargo didn’t even call or email me. I had to call Wells to find out I was denied because «I was not one of their ideal customers». And the weird thing is that I had my original home loan with Wells with the Loan to Value under 50%. So this Nov, I refinanced my home loan with OCCU. Now all my accounts are with this bank. I will recommend OCCU to anyone. As a CPA and prior auditor with a Big 4 accounting firm, I know the kind of games the big banks play. To them is all about earnings and never about the customer service. OCCU is about member service. Do yourself a favor and move your accounts to OCCU. You will get the kind of service small town businesses used to give their customers before the days of the big box stores. And also, you can deposit your checks via their phone app and withdraw money from ATMs inside Seven Elevens (fee free). So the excuses that they don’t have too many branches don’t hold water. And no, I don’t work for OCCU. I just am one very happy customer.

If you work in Orange County then you can join. They offer more personal service than a Big Bank and they still have better rates and online banking. I only know of one Branch that’s outside of OC and it’s in Long Beach.
Never buy GAP insurance at the dealer get it at a CU it’s more cost effective.
No ATM fees at all 7 – 11’s and co-​ops.

I have been a customer with the Orange County Credit Union for less than 2 weeks and I plan on closing my account immediately. The of opening an account, registering, etc has been so painfully bad, I no longer plan to do business with them. Here are some of the serious issues:
1) When opening an account online the verification process ONLY works if you use a credit card. Really? Use my credit card just to open an account? No thanks. The customer service rep will also suggest this if you try to call them.
2) After you account is open try doing anything you would with your normal online banking: Transfer funds, mobile banking, even just emailing them. All of those things require a separate registration process.
3) Online chat is NEVER available.
4) Everything is SLOOOOW. While I hate Bank of America, atleast when you pay bills or change your address it’s quick (1 – 2 business days). Online bill payment with OC can take up to a week to be paid!
The only positive I can give the credit union is atleast they were friendly at the branches.

I bank with a credit union up north and since there are no locations down here, I’m grateful to find places that belong in the credit union co-​op network that I can still do my banking with without any fees etc.
This bank has the modified ATM that lets you make deposits without envelopes. However since there’s only one ATM and it’s in a busy area, there are some serious lines here sometimes which really sucks.
Aside from that, my banking is pretty hassle free but avoid coming here at night. It’s still in a ghetto part of Santa Ana and in a closed off industrial area with low lighting. I would recommend doing your ATM business early or during daylight hours.

I normally leave reviews after negative experiences at businesses. Sometimes you get the service that says «Hey, this person’s boss should know they are doing a great job» Which brings me to this review.
Sharla: Thanks for being exteremely helpful on getting me an account set up at your CU. I opened up an account at wells fargo a few weeks before, and they failed to keep me happy. I had to go to the branch four seperate times just to get my atm working. They treated me like I didn’t really matter either. At OCCU it was the exact opposite. Very friendly and helpful. You took the extra steps to ensure I got good service and even helped me get in contact with a woman to get me that car loan I need. Respect to the folks at OCCU for being friendly and helpful and, Thank You Sharla!

Best public Credit Union in OC… you just need to live or work in OC to get an account… and if you set up a direct deposit, no minimum needed to keep in the account & no fees.
The free online bill pay is easy to use too… easier than Chase online bill pay… not as many diff links to click… plus Chase would put a hold on some checks & this credit union never puts holds on any checks at all.
The only bank that’s better than here is Schools First… but only cuz there is no minimum required to keep in the account & no other requirements like a direct deposit to avoid fees. BUT you can only get into that bank if you are related to somebody who’s already in that bank… it’s really just specifically for those working in a school district & their family… I’ve got an account there too.
Note the new branch hours… it changed a few months back
