Oscar’s on First St is gone. Another operator, The Sandwich Society, has opened in this space.

Just purchased! New name but so far Oscars menu is intact. Owner says she will be adding more items.

This is average deli style food. bland. quick, and cost more than its worth. Recommend a sandwhich, Don’t bother with their salads. i ordered a chicken breast salad yesterday and it was rubbery chicken. tasted like it was out of a can… I will not be returning here.

First time walking in there, and the chef at the register was so rude when I asked questions that I immediately decided not to invest my money there.

I love oscar’s deli and their employees. I used to eat here several times/week. Since I no longer work in Santa Ana, I don’t get over as often; however I always crave it! Bread is super fresh, sandwiches are piled high. They slice the deli meats to order. Potato salad and macaroni salads are delicious, and they serve complimentary, fresh baked cookies with every meal you purchase. Their breakfast burritos are delish, as well… and good prices. Only constructive feedback I have for them occurred at my last visit. I tried to purchase 3 large containers of potato salad(they only have two sizes to choose from), and the owner wouldn’t sell it to me. When I looked in their display case, they had enough to complete that order. She was firm that she couldn’t sell me that much potato salad because then she wouldn’t have enough for her lunch crowd. Apparently you have to call in advance for that amount. I was disappointed since I was going to a small office lunch across the street and wanted to bring some potato and macaroni salad to share. I was a great customer of theirs for many years and I thought she should’ve been more accommodating to me.

I have been here 3 times and every-time I am pleased! The staff is so polite and welcoming and the food is very fresh! I recommend the chief salad or ham grilled cheese! :)

This was one of my favorite lunch spots. Sandwich comes with a side which makes your lunch much better. All sandwiches are are fresh and made quality ingredients. I usually had a chicken breast sandwich with bacon and it was delicious!

Best sandwich shop in the area. If you work in Santa Ana you should make the effort to try this place.

I stumbled on to Oscar’s as i had«accidentally» forgotten to pack my leftovers for lunch. ;) What can i say?! Oscar’s offers a fast, delicious and reasonably priced lunch menu perfect for the busy but hungry people in the area. I typically have the cobb salad here, and definitely recommend it. Fresh, and with a good mix of flavors, this is not your ordinary boring cobb salad. And at under $ 7, it’s a steal with generous portions. I’m usually in and out of here in under 10min. And the staff are always friendly and helpful. And i’m not saying that because they gave me a surprise free cookie with my lunch. Come and try them out if you’re in the area, they’ll make you feel at home just like a neighborhood deli should.

My office is right across the street so this place has become one of my go-to’s, when I want to grab a bit but don’t want to actually«take a lunch». I love their lunch specials that run $ 5, give or take a little. I like to get the turkey sandwich with everything on wheat, beef & barley soup, and potato salad. The owners are really friendly and though smaller, it’s never inconveniently packed. The sandwiches are HUGE so I’ll order a half sandwich and soup combo. It’s the perfect amount of food for me. Oh. and the 4 stars says a lot, as I am NOT a sandwich person!

I want to cut myself for every time I went to Subway prior to my introduction to Oscar’s. At Oscar’s, everything is the best. I’m not kidding. You don’t even have to mention what you got, whether it be a bbq beef sandwich, potato salad, or a cookie. Every single sandwich is better than anything you’ve ever had. In fact, forget a $ 5 foot long. That is stupid, unless you like a loaf of bread, filled with produce, and drowned in mayo, then by all means, keep on Subway-ing it. For the same price you get a sandwich, your choice of picnic salad, and a drink. Meats are so fresh it’s like you are eating a live cow who doesn’t even care because he wants you to taste how delicious he is. «Keep eating meeeeee. I don’t even feel the pain… barely. I taste good and I am saving you moooooo-la.» Cows are horrible with puns.

Agreed with the previous reviewers. I used to go to this place all the time before work! Their lunch specials were awesome but now I feel like they just don’t care as much. No more cookies! Also, I used to think the ingredients were really fresh… the last time I went, the bread was dry/not as soft/tasted stale!!! Ehhhhh… haven’t been back for a while :/

Sometimes you just want a good ol’ sandwich. You know, the kind that your mom would pack in a brown paper bag for school-the kind my momma never made… damn Asian parents. IF lunch would have been packed, it would have included rice. :sigh: Oscar’s is my savior, a savior of my childhood dreams of hoping and wishing for that brown lunch bag, but it’s no longer a dream. It’s reality. For less than $ 5, they pack me a delicious tuna sandwich, a side, and a cookie in that infamous, yet traditional, brown bag with a drink on the side. The kicker is: you never know what cookie you’re going to get. Could it be oatmeal raisin? Snickerdoodle? Chocolate chip? Like a kid frantically searching inside his lunch bag for what goodies momma packed, so did I, for what cookie Oscar’s Deli gave me. And when my lunch partner gets an oatmeal raisin and I get a snickerdoodle, we(like kids in elementary school) perform a trade. «I’ll give you my snickerdoodle cookie and half my sandwich for that oatmeal raisin.» If that doesn’t work, a slight frown always works. Oscar’s offers a «sandwich of the day» which includes half a sandwich, a side, cookie, and drink for less than $ 5(whenever I come it’s less than $ 5). A half sandwich appears to be more like a whole, so no worries. The portion is very suitable for a lunch. + Tuna Sandwich — Aside from the one I make, the tuna salad is scrumptious! I get it with everything on wheat, which includes chopped lettuce and tomatoes. The lettuce always comes fresh and the tomatoes are thinly sliced(I generally don’t eat tomatoes unless it’s cut very thin). The tuna contains a mixture of mayo, red onions, and celery-so good. + Pasta Salad — Sooooooooooooooo dellliiiiiciouss! The tri-color fusilli is cooked until al dente, tossed with shredded carrot, sliced celery, and chopped red onions and then mixed in some sort of Italian dressing and spices. Sometimes my lunch buddy will also get the pasta salad just to give it to me. Win!!! I love it so much that I’ve tried to mimic the recipe at home; no dice. Booo. + Potato Salad — Different, but pleasantly tasty. It tastes nothing like store-bought potato salad. Potatoes, eggs, celery, relish, mayo, mustard, and something else; I just can’t put my finger on it… + The Cookie — You don’t get to pick. It’s simply thrown into your lunch bag for free. I’ve gotten the oatmeal raisin, snickerdoodle, and chocolate chip. Even though all were good, I always hope to get the oatmeal raisin. I don’t know if they make it there, but it’s soft and chewy-right amount of sweetness and a perfect way to end my lunch. + Ambiance — The sign says«Salads and Sandwiches»(or is it the other way around?) so you might miss it. It’s in the same mini plaza as Flame Broiler across the street from the Xerox building. Very casual. There are a few tables and it gets quite crowded during lunch time. I always order mine to go or call in for pick up. + Service — Very standard and not much to say. There’s not much interaction, except for when you order. Whenever I’m craving for a sandwich, Oscar’s Deli hits the spot. No Subway(never been a fan), no Quizno’s(only been there once); non of that junk-just a good old fashion sandwich in a brown paper bag, please.

I work across the street, so when we don’t feel like driving somewhere for lunch, Oscar’s is one of the default options for a short walk. everyone is very friendly and they are always happy to customize your sandwich for you. I like Rubens, but want them a little(a little I said) leaner, so I have been having them make them with turkey instead. Never a problem, and always tasty. They have nice packaged salads in large clamshells, much bigger than you would get from a fast food joint. The Greek is one of my favorites, with a good vinegary dressing to punch up the taste and a fair but of artichoke hearts and feta cheese. Everything is freshly made, with your choice of a side with a sandwich and a cookie. The ½ sandwich deal is especially good if you don’t want to stuff yourself.

Oscar’s Deli, so I have been coming here every since I started working across the street, I’ve moved locations so I am not here so often, but when ever I am in the area I love to stop by in the morning and get a breakfast buritto for me and my coworker to share. Breakfast burittos are very good, they come with ham, sausage or steak, or all 3 if you want. Well they cook the eggs just right and with a little salsa to go with it, it is really amazing. Their sandwiches are very hearty and they feel like your eating a good sandwich from home. They have different breads to pick from, my fav is the squaw bread. Tuna melts are very good!

My co workers brag about this place being amazing and having the best deals. I have to agree because they do have nice combo deals and it’s quite filling for the price. The sandwiches are good and have a home made taste. I liked the fact that the sandwiches were not over powered by mayo or mustard — the sandwich was simple yet delicious. Accompanied with the sandwich I chose a side of potato salad which was okay but definitely not amazing. I’m not sure if my expectations were to high since the potato salad is what everyone seems to brag about. The potato salad has bits and pieces of raw onion so If you’re not a big fan of them i suggest to skip the potato salad and choose a different side salad. Customer Service was okay. The girl who took my order was friendly and the guys in the back prepping the food smiled and looked happy to have jobs. My food was prepped and ready to go within 2 – 3 minutes which was very much appreciated since I was there during lunch hour.

I love this deli. Fresh, fast and delicious. I always look forward to the daily specials. All their salads are made fresh(mac, potato, fruit, cucumber and pasta salad). i cant believe how affordable this place is for just about $ 5 bucks you get a full sandwich pasta drink and a cookie. I visit this place at least 3 times a week. The salads are also very good. If your a breakfast person they have breakfast burritos that are the bomb! My fav’s 1. Chicken club on white bread 2. B.L.T. w/turkey and avocado on squaw bread 3. Philly cheese steak on a roll 4. Grilled Roast beef on a roll 5. BBQ chicken salad 6. Mac salad 7. Potato salad 8. Breakfast burrito 9. Chocolate cookies 10. Dirty chips! The Bad– 1.Long line during lunch hours(1130-100) 2. Seating area is limited
