Yost Theater

Came here for Havoc Thursday for the first time. Promoters (and the IG of the company holding the event that night) told us it would be $ 25 for guestlist after the first 50 21+ got in for free, but they were adamant on telling everyone that they were charging $ 30 for tickets now. When it was my turn to pay, I showed them the Instagram post and they hesitantly agreed to charge $ 25 but said to keep it on the hush hush and continued to charge everyone else that didn’t know about this post $ 30.
Although I did like the venue and the balcony upstairs, it got too hot and crowded so very quickly! It was so humid and difficult to breathe once it got crowded.
It sucks because there was only one girls bathroom and it was especially busy the night that I went. I had waited in the line for the bathroom for literally an hour. It was so crowded and there were so many people pushing and trying to get through that when I was just waiting in line for the bathroom I was still in everybody’s way. The line for the girls bathroom blocked the stairs and the entrance for people trying to get in and out to get some fresh air.
I had a good time regardless because I was in good company, but that line for the bathroom really killed my buzz. I also left early because I couldn’t stand the heat anymore.

Holy shit… this venue is a trap… it has alot of good djs playing here but man there are a shitload of fights by the security staff members, and ppl moshing too damn hard. fking packed af u be bumping everyone shoulders to shoulders every god damn time. sort of get pissed of being touched alot and then u cant stop urself by throw a rage at them… Its inevitable to not see a fight in this venue. The line can be extremely long. i waited 40 mins and still havent got in yet. it was hot af upstairs so if ur on one. best hydrate ur self HAHA. no joke humid af. crappy bathrooms. but ehh might come back again due to lesser drunk bro dudes tryna fight like avalon n the lineup. but i doubt i be coming.

The yost has pulled in a lot of great dj’s over the years and is so close by and cheap that I always thought it was a great deal. But after waiting an hour in line to get into show we already had tickets for and then not being able to move once inside, it was extremely disappointing. Obviously something needs to change with their ticketing system because they collect printable tickets instead of scanning them, so people could easily buy one ticket and photocopy it for their five friends. An oversold show + a really rough and moshing crowd doesn’t let others enjoy the music or be able to dance. Last night was a hot sweaty mess

This place is run by complete rude hot headed assholes. Security are complete assholes. They kicked out my bf for defending his little sister at sundays show. 6 against 1 really? Even the cop was on my bf’s side and told him to file a complaint bc all that was unnecessary. Jorge from the casualties basically begged them to please standby for the last song. one guy got tackled on stage as he was literally walking by. Shit is caught on video. First and last time to this venue. I will not support that piece of shit place.

DO NOT BOOK YOUR EVENT HERE. DO NOT BOOK YOUR EVENT HERE. the facility is great. it looks awesome and the sound was good. BUT DO NOT BOOK YOUR EVENT HERE. I recently did an event here. we had to sign a contract beforehand. the contract gave us the venue from 3pm-​9pm. and we paid the hefty price of around $ 3500. Show up at the venue at 3pm and there’s a whole completely different event going on with a crowd and lights and sound AND we can’t load in our stuff. Not only that, we were treated like we weren ‘t supposed to be there or like they were doing us a favor. finally around 3:45 we were able to get in, and they continued to harass us and rush us like we had showed up late or something. this caused tons of unwarranted stress for all the performers and people involved. We got thru the show and finished about 7:50. We were then again rushed and harassed to get off stage and out the building! their crew even moved our gear from where it was set up and started bringing in a rig for the next event. and by 8:21 we were out yhe door. so let me recap really quickly. we paid $ 3500 to have the venue from 3pm-​9pm and this included our set up and breakdown time. we were denied entry for 40minutes and pushed out 40 minutes early. i will be consulting my lawyers shortly about this breach of contract. again, the facility is amazing and i love downtown santa ana. But the way we were treated was truly unprofessional and we for sure didn’t get our money’s worth. DO NOT BOOK YOUR EVENT HERE.

I bought tickets for DOA and The Dickies at Yost Theater. I got there and they told me the show was across the street at the Underground DTSA? I asked why and was told they are owned by the same people. I don’t see how that makes it OK and after doing a quick Google search the first thing that comes up is there was a stabbing at the Underground a couple months ago! So it’s not because they’re owned by the same people it’s because there was a murder inside the club 2 months ago and that may turn people off to the place. Since this was an all ages show I’m sure there are parents that would take this into consideration.
The inside is what I would expect for a place that has punk shows. Not at all like a theater! The bands all rocked and it felt like it was 1983! To bad the sound system is from 1983 and the sound guy was horrible.
I will drive to LA or San Diego to see a show before I would ever go to this place again.

We had a great time at the «Like Totally 80s Festival» held outside of the Yost Theater on May 21, 2016.
It was a well-​organized event with several 80’s Alternative music acts, including Bow Wow Wow, When in Rome, Naked Eyes, and a Flock of Seagulls. They also had SirusXM’s Richard Blade DJing which was fantastic; he was nice enough to take photos with fans.
My only complaints?
#1 — They were using rental audio equipment and it was at times out of balance. Sometimes the singing was too quiet (Bow Wow Wow). And during Naked Eyes, the bass was way, way off — I was feeling dizzy from the vibration of the pavement in the front of the general admission standing area.
#2 — It was a 10-​hour event with no in-​and-​out privileges. I have special dietary needs (gluten intolerance) and really could have benefited from being able to leave the grounds to eat a meal. I cannot risk eating from the food trucks onsite — I had a couple of energy bars in my purse and that was all I had during that time. I begged/​pleaded for a chance to leave and come back and was told, «No.» You may want to consider your policy for future day-​long events.

Um, racist bartender? Check! I went there with a friend of mine to watch a burlesque show last night, we got the VIP seating upstairs and my friend went ahead and ordered me a cranberry & vodka, finished my drink and asked him what it was, so I went to the bar and tried to order one myself. The idiotic bar tender with her eyes popping out kept asking me, «wah? wah? what’s that???» She said she had no idea what it was, so I said ok then a cranberry martini then, again I thought her eyes were gonna pop out and head bopping around she said she didn’t know what that was either, and then I said my friend just ordered a cranberry and vodka for me earlier, she said wah wah I made it??? And then more crazy moronic laugh, ok, sure, my Caucasian friend ordered that drink 20 mins ago and she could make it, but I ordered the same drink and she didn’t know what it was.
I want to implore her, that if a bar tender wants to feel good about herself, perhaps she should get herself even a tiny little bit of a brain so she could be marginally respected for a job of any profession, rather than being a RACIST.

Doesn’t deserve one star! My first and last time here!!! Came to see Burlesque show, show is supposed to start at 7:30 they open doors at 7:30 they pack a LOT of people in and you stand around until the show starts which was around 8
But felt like hours! My pals and I were dressed up to the max and the rest of the crowd were in sweats and T-​shirts. There were a few people dressed up but the majority looked like they were going to the swap meet! Aside from that it was so crowded you can’t breathe or see, my pals and I managed to make it up to the balcony where we can see the show but from far up there may as well have watched it on TV. One of my friends spotted a huge cockroach running across the floor and that was our exit! We will never come here again!

The Yost is the place to go if you want some good Edm to listen to, the staff is pretty cool if you’re not too intoxicated. They still sometimes oversell their shows for Big names, but other than that, the YOST is the place to go, Havoc Thursday is usually pretty Lit

I had a great time!!! First time goer on a saturday night, not many ppl were there, which was good, alot of space to dance. Not only that, but they gave us glow Sticks and little props to play with.

Beware: The upstairs bar tender will add on an additional tip in whatever amount he feels like.
The bartender initially gave me a bill for someone else (with my card stuck in), then when I corrected him he brought me back a bill with more drinks on it than I ordered. I attempted to flag him down to correct this, but after waiting for over 15 mins, I had to leave. I crossed out the drinks, as well as itemizing what I did have (and the corresponding times, since prices go up after 10– but I’m ok with that). I now have a charge for the full bill as well as an ADDITIONAL $ 14 tip THAT I DID NOT AUTHORIZE. I know bartenders are busy and things can get mixed up, but don’t intentionally overcharge me for your mistakes.

Saw a comedy show here and enjoyed it. Sound was good and the seats were comfortable. That being said there was a concert after our show and the line wrapped around the building. I must be getting old, because it looked like they dropped the middle schoolers off for a dance. I know it is 18+, but I don’t this group looked young. Not sure how that plays out, but glad I wasn’t attending that event. Drinks are pretty expensive inside Yost, so if you get a chance have a cold one before or after on the rooftop KattyCorner at Native Son’s Alehouse.

Super sound. My friend and I went to The Yost last night for the first time to check out The Blasters, The Sun Demons & Big Sandy. For most of the show we sat at a table near the bar which is located behind the floor section. The sound was loud but good. A little bit of feedback with the first band but that’s it. For The Blasters set we decided to head closer to the stage. At about 25 feet from the stage the sound was so loud my ears hurt. Walking out of the venue and still this morning my ears are ringing. I would recommend having some ears plugs just in case.

Parking lot adjacent to venue $ 8 valet parking till 1 AM. Two hour metered street parking free after 10 PM.
Lots of restaurants surrounding the venue. Cool updated area of Santa Ana.

This is a really cool venue and we had a great time. I was there Saturday Night for Missing Persons and Bow Wow Wow.
I was really surprised at how small the venue was when I walked in, Basically an old movie house like you’d see in a small town in the mid west and the dance floor is roomy until you get down there and they have some weird deal with tables on the floor with ropes around them (WTF?)
Maybe that works for burlesque shows but not at a concert.
We opted for table service and VIP a seating section against the right wall as you look from the bar toward the stage, it was cool most of the night but as the people at the table next to us thinned out the «Locals» (I assume) started to infiltrate and it became a full on goof ball show! All I could think is was «No one told me there was a sideshow and why are they sitting next to me???»
Drinks are expensive in clubs… I get that. I went to the bar to get a drink other than the vodka at our table and he poured a Jack and coke in an 8oz cheap plastic cup like you get as a water cup at McDonald’s that don’t spring for franchised wax/​paper water cups and told me I owed him $ 10. DAMN,
Oh yeah and this show was an «All ages show» so when I turned to walk away from the bar almost tripped over three kids all under 10 years old. Why were there little kids in the bar?

Missing Persons *****+++ (Still love you Ms. Bozio!)
Bow wow wow *** (Tribute band with original Bass player, sounded OK though)
Mr. Mirainga *****++ (Wow, I’m a fan, Great show guys!)
Other 2 bands were entertaining too but I don’t know which was which.
1:15am and Missing Persons where still rocking it out, I had to «Tap out» and go home, but the crowd was already over ½ gone! I was really impressed with the professionalism of these guys and I will check them out again at their next local show!

It’s alright.
The location is nice surrounded by other small shops. Yost Theater is big and very simple. I feel like it won’t harm to remodel this place or change up the layout.

Came to Yost a couple of times before and the security and staff have always been rude and unprofessional. Yesterday for BrancheZ, they kicked out two of my friends for «drinking in the bathroom «even though they were not. The manager, Jessica or Jennifer? , promised us we would be able to reenter once we sobered up but when we returned the staff harassed us and yelled at us. She is a liar and very shady. Also the bartenders are cheap asses and ask for more tips LMAO, soo pathetic
Besides the staff, the venue itself is dirty and ratchet. Would not pay to enter, go somewhere with some class instead

Attended the Joy concert (80s Asian New Wave band) at this venue which is very small. Just over 1000. All was dark inside so can’t comment on the décor. However, the security staff were on guard and did their job well. We got VIP seating and the staff made sure riff raffs were kept out and stood firm. The bar staff were fast and kept drinks reasonably spiked and not too diluted. Table service was great.
The concert was well put together and sure brought back good memories from my teens and 20s.

I’d totally come back; I really like that it’s near a lot of good bars! It’s a lot of fun here at Yost if you choose a night that has music you’re into and if you come with good company. I love EDM, so I enjoyed DJ Snowden and DJ Drew. Plus, the lasers they have for the light show are pretty good! Reminds me of the rave scene.
We had a really good experience with the guestlist as well. It was 10:30pm already but the hostess allowed us to be the last couple into the club for free on the guest list. Since it was past 10:30pm, she let everyone else on the guestlist into the club w/​a discounted cover fee. This really impressed me because I was used to Sutra’s terrible system where they don’t give you discounts AND they purposefully hold up the line so that you don’t make it in before 10:30pm.
I love that it’s a theater because it felt very spacious, with plenty of room all around and a TON of places to sit down. The balcony upstairs is a cool place to hangout and there’s also another DJ room up there. There’s also an area to relax outside of the venue as well in case you want fresh air… and compared to Sutra, it didn’t smell as if someone boxed up a tiny room filled w/​cigarette smoke.
Doesn’t seem like there’s much of a dress code; you can dress it up or dress it down as much as you want.
The bartender had a really generous hand in his pours because my long island was THE *strongest* drink I’ve had in my life. LOL. I couldn’t finish it because it was so strong and I had already started the party at home, thinking the drinks here would be weak.
My only disclaimer is that since most nights are 18+, make sure you’re okay with a really young crowd. I think the younger crowd is much more polite and cute than jaded oldies, but this is not the club to pick up & mingle since most people keep to themselves. Also, just an interesting note, the demographic the night I came seemed to be mostly Caucasian and Hispanic… compared to Sutra where it’s like mostly Hispanic and Asian all the time haha.
