John McCann grew up in Los Angeles before settling in Santa Barbara with his wife Janet in 1967.

He and his son, Casey, both manage the company and take a hands-​on approach to properly relocating and storing customer’s household goods.

Bad experience. Made an appointment for a survey of apartment, they kept me waiting for 2 hours and did not show up in the end, and were not in the least apologetic when I called to inquire. They sent two movers for the move, one of them sneered and smirked at me and was openly sexist. This experience is from 2010 (and difficult to forget), but I can see from their website that the people working there are the same today. Not recommended, especially not to women.

My extended family and I have been using Hazelwood Allied for sometime now. I would never even think of going with any one else based on their individualized attention, courteous, hardworking and polite movers, and their professionalism throughout each job. Not to mention this is a family run company and they have an amazing ability to empathize with almost any moving situation you might be in. Each time you request a move you get a personal visit from either Casey or John, (the owners) who make sure every aspect of the move is planned to meet your specific needs.
Their customer service is far superior than anything remotely close in this area. With moving in general, things are not going to be perfect but if something goes not as planned, they try their best to rectify any and all unforeseen circumstances. All of Hazelwood’s employers work so hard and they do it with a smile every time. I have never come across others in the industry with such work ethic or positivity. If you are thinking about moving.. . Hazelwood should definitely be your way to go.

It pains me to leave a bad review. I am not one to complain but when so many things go completely different from what you expect given previous reviews I can’t not share my experience. Just be cautious. I am wondering how on earth this company has so many stars. I had a very disappointing experience with this moving company. 1. When given a quote we were told at most, if we did no further packing (at that point we had the kitchen packed only) the cost would be a maximum of $X but the more we packed up the price would go down. We packed and even moved a large majority of our things with our own boxes and mostly left large items. In the end we were charged the maximum amount before confirming with us. 2. Banged up walls and doors, they said nothing and when we asked them about it the response was «large furniture, tight spaces, we did the best we could.» (When we, as non professional movers moved in about 2 years ago managed getting everything in with no bangs or scratches so I find that excuse hard to believe. 3. Remaining screw from our elliptical found on the floor where they moved it from and then another screw (matching the elliptical screws) on the floor where they moved it to. 4. Broken/​cracked elliptical foot pedal. 5. Banged up/​scratched dressers. If you care about your things at all I do not recommend this company. Poor quality and poor customer service. Such a disappointment.

Everyone at Hazelwood Moving and Storage is fantastic!!! They are professional and dependable, with the ability to handle very valuable and fragile pieces. We are an interior design firm in Florida and used them to handle receiving and holding deliveries for several top clients. They inventoried everything efficiently and were always responsive if we needed to access items before or after the installation. During installation, their team is hard working and efficient. Highly recommend them.

This is the third time in ten years I have used Hazelwood Allied and Casey and his team are very professional and hard working. They are competitively priced and all of the movers were careful with my antiques and furniture to not have damage in the moving process. I would recommend the for their services!

We moved our family and 3 bedroom home from Santa Barbara to the East Bay and with two little kids in tow, this was no small task. We interviewed 4 moving companies and decided on Hazelwood Allied because of their professionalism, quick response, competitive pricing and great customer service (Casey made a 2nd visit to provide a more accurate estimate after we had a big yard sale — he was also great about answering our many questions about the move process and pricing). On moving day, the crew (Larry, Evan, Uri and Mike) were on time, friendly, polite, efficient and careful with our belongings (no damages!). Casey estimated that the crew would have the truck packed within 3 – 4 hrs and this was accurate. We met them at our new house in the East Bay 2 days later and again, they were on time and efficient. Moving is always such a chaotic time but Hazelwood Allied helped make this process go smoothly and everyone — from the front office staff to the moving crew — was friendly, responsive and professional. We appreciated their great service and highly recommend them.

We’ve used Hazelwood in the past to move a number of times and have had a good experience with them. However, I recently called to ask if they could send a few people out to help me move items out of my storage unit so I could take an inventory and then help me put the items back. I was told they were too busy and couldn’t help. They lost a valuable customer.

We just finished a move from Santa Barbara, CA to San Jose, CA. John came out and gave us a quote — he was on time, very nice, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to work with. He was available every time I had a question, and Hazelwood’s quote was the most competitive of the four quotes that I received. John had a great team of packers and movers come to move us — Kelly was the head mover, and he was fabulous! Always polite, helpful, and quick with a smile. Mike, Uri, and the rest of the team were also fabulous!
They took great care, and nothing was broken in the move. Good job Hazelwood!

Moved from Ventura to Santa Barbara — Guys were great, friendly, on time! John and his son Casey are just phenomenal. Everyone offered great customer service, including those in the office whom we never met face-​to-​face. Mary the manager always made sure our needs were met. They were also kind enough to accommodate to our schedule and needs. Very family oriented which helped when relocating to new home — compassionate and caring.

I recommended Hazelwood Allied Moving to my out of town mom who was moving. When I’d used them they were skilled, helpful and trustworthy.
Even though they are based in Santa Barbara, the owner John went an hour out of his way to meet with her. I was so thankful.
The moving staff were great with her and her things. They worked out a way that she could come down with the cats and spend the night in her new home and her moved goodies could spend the night at their secure facility.
So the following day they came when the cats were a bit more settled and completed her move.
They really worked with my mom’s schedule, which was a bit up in the air for a while. When John came to discuss her move he gave her special tape and boxes and advice and just treated her like she was a very important person, which she is to me.
