Lemon Tree Inn

Over the top good. We did a last minute booking online and got a good rate on our room, which was large, very comfortable, and very quiet.
Things that stuck out in my mind include:
— Jacuzzi in the tub
— french doors onto a balcony
— balcony view onto a gorgeously maintained courtyard
— actually decent coffee and tea in the in-​room service
— way friendly staff
So so chill. So nice. And right on State street!

This place gets 4 stars because of the value. It is not the best hotel in the world, has some oddities like balconies that do not have dividers that go all the way up or all the way down, but they are still private. I couldn’t hear anyone next door when the doors were closed. Hot-​tub was a nice place to chill, and it was an $ 8 über to the happening part of state street. All in all, great deal for the price.

We used the Lemon Tree Inn for our wedding room block in October and had about 50 rooms of guests there at the same time. While their organization system of booking rooms and finding guests left much room for error and A LOT to be desired as far as efficiency, (they could not look up the group code to find who in our party is staying, so instead we had to supply a huge guest list and they went through by hand, one by one, to confirm the reservations) this hotel served our purposes well and was very willing to make whatever changes needed to create happy guests. I recommend this hotel for groups because they have a lot of beautiful communal space around the pool and restaurant, there is plenty of free parking, and because it is in a quiet-​but-​accessible area of State St. This hotel also blew every neighboring trendy hotel out of the water with their very competitive group rates, willingness to book groups without a bar or restaurant minimum/​buy-​out, and ability to accommodate more than 5 – 10 rooms at a time for a large group.
Pros: Location was great, pool was great, rooms were clean, restaurant was really delicious. Each room had a great patio or balcony which everyone loved. Braulio, the manager, was very accommodating and provided a great low group rate for us via email, but was almost impossible to get on the phone during the planning process.
The gem of this hotel, however, comes in the form of a young employee named Ali. THANK YOU, ALI, FOR BEING SO AWESOME. Ali was, to be blunt, the most competent person on premises at any given time. She understood the wonky booking system better than any other front desk employee, was incredibly hospitable, and I totally trusted that if we asked her to do something she would have it done. Many times her co-​workers would put me on hold and pass her the phone because she was simply the only one that could figure out if there were any rooms with 2 beds left for that weekend. With no disrespect to Braulio, Ali could run this hotel with her eyes closed. Promote Ali, give Ali a raise, praise Ali at the high level she deserves — this girl understands the meaning of hospitality and customer service, and will go far in whatever she chooses to do with her life.
Cons: Young, untrained and mostly un-​monitored staff = a constant need to re-​check and follow up and confirm what they said to be true (with the except of Ali). I think this would have been remedied by Braulio being present on the hotel grounds more than he was to manage his staff. With 50+ rooms in our group, I had to check and re-​check that changes or additions we asked for actually were made — unless Ali was at the desk (see above) they simply didn’t happen every time. I am an organized person and planned our whole wedding, but if I wasn’t diligent about our group’s needs it would have been a real mess. Also a small thing, but rooms didn’t have mini-​fridges unless you requested them and paid additional $ 10 a night, which is something no one told us until checkout.

. We always choose this hotel first when in SoCal. Excellent restaurant also in the Crocodile Bar.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
We booked and stayed at this hotel this past weekend, Nov 6^th & 7^th. At $ 200.00 per night plus tax and fees, you expect a nice room. It was a disaster from the moment we walked into our room. We always inspect any room we stay in for bedbugs, cleanliness and begin wiping things down that are most frequently touched. The light switch covers were filthy with spots of varying shades. The hair dryer had multiple strands of hair sticking out from the back end. The pillows were covered with yellow stain. Next to one bed, on the wall, was what looked like a bugger. The lamp table was covered with dust. The headboard was filthy dusty. The walls had so many spots and stains, it looked like people purposely splattered liquids all over the walls. The chair at the desk was so old and scratched, it looked to be from a yard sale. We asked to be moved or found a new Hotel. So as not to seem like a complainer, I asked that one of the front desk ladies come to our room so we could show her what we saw. She agreed. I asked her if she would like to sleep on the stained pillow. She looked and me and nodded, no. I showed her the wall with the bugger. I showed her the hairdryer. I showed her the walls. She was convinced the room was NOT clean.
We agreed to be moved to another room. In the process of moving, my wife finds the housekeeper in our ‘clean’ room cleaning the very areas we mentioned were a problem in the first room. Speaking in Spanish, I mentioned to her we were not pleased with the lack of cleanliness. She responded to my wife they all ‘clean’ differently. Huh? Uh, there should be a minimum standard for cleanliness. We made certain the sheets and pillow cases were changed while we observed.
All of this hassle took two hours of our time.
The saga continues. The following evening we spent with family. When we returned, we couldn’t enter. The card key was useless. I went to the front desk, again, to let them know we weren’t able to use our key. I thought our room was rented to someone else. She generated a new set of card keys. No luck. I returned to the desk. The maintenance man used his «master «to enter the room. He tells me in Spanish, the battery in the door is dead. I’ll replace it. He returned. But the new battery must have been dead too because he couldn’t get the card key to work either. Oh well. Another inconvenience. To top off our evening, the guests next door decided to blast the music at max volume. Once more, I had to have the front desk address another inconvenience.
The next morning, Sunday, we decided to go for a walk. Knowing we could not use our key to enter, I asked the front desk lady to assist us. She, probably believing we were merely ‘headache’ guests, attempted to issue new keys. I said, no. You need to use a master key to enter. Not believing me, she met us at the room door and attempted to use the new card key. She struggled for several minutes until she realized, I wasn’t lying. She pulled out her ‘master’ key which also gave her trouble. She closed the door thinking this was all a fluke. It was not, After realizing there is a problem here, she figured she would not take anymore of her time and ours struggling to open the door. I was glad she saw how we were inconvenienced.
I asked for and was given an adjustment. Well, it looked good on paper but my account shows they still charged us the full amount. Now I have to call them back, request my adjustment, again, that should have been done correctly when I checked out.
This place SUCKS! I would sleep on the streets before I ever stayed there ever again.

Me and my wife came here during our honeymoon. We stayed from Oct. 5^th-​11^th. I normally don’t write bad reviews about places but I find it necessary to share what I experienced during my stay at the Lemon Tree Inn. Here are the good and the bad…
Pros: Proximity to popular locations. The pool and patio was nice as well. I enjoyed the jets in the bathtub (a little too small for two but oh well). But… Then.
Cons: NO FRIDGE! Not even a mini fridge. I suppose it’s because they want you to pay at the crocodile bar. But come on, really??? Not even for leftovers? I would of given it four stars even with this BUT…
WE HAD THINGS STOLEN! My wife had shirts, lingerie and even underwear stolen from our room! These were gifts from her bridal shower! Fortunately they didn’t steal jewelry because it was in a lockbox. We called the front desk and they couldn’t do anything about it. We suspect it was the cleaning lady as she was the only one who came into our room.
This was very disappointing. In general, I would have loved to make this place a regular visit for us, but due to unfortunate circumstances I will be taking my money else where.

Well it was about 6 month’s since my fiancé and I stayed here. I took her up here because she has never been and I used to live with in S. B county. So I searched around and wanted something close to shopping and to the beach, the place was beautiful and the staff was very friendly. The only down fall was the restaurant didn’t really give any discounts to the people that stayed there and the bar seem to be pricey. But I understand that it is going to be expensive especially in S.B., now I am sure some people will say well isn’t most of this state expensive and I will have to say yes most of the beach cities can be and no. But we still had a great time so thank you to all of the hard working staff for the pleasant hospitality.

We booked a room here through the hotel website so we paid full price which was very close to $ 270 for one evening. The women at the counter were friendly when we checked in. We proceeded to our room, 112 and when we opened the door we were shocked. The first thing we noticed was the strong mildew smell. My husband and I were just happy to have a night to ourselves and we booked the room to attend a concert close by so we didn’t say much to each other trying to be positive. We walked into the room which was painted a strange dark purple, almost black, making it feel dark, dingy, and like a tomb. The smell and the one tiny window facing the back parking lot added to the feeling of being in a tomb. We walked a little further in thinking maybe there was a sitting room but the small, dark, mildewy, and dusty room was all we were getting for our $ 270. I am not a picky person by any means but there was no way I wanted to spend even 10 minutes in this room. I have stayed at much nicer places for a lot less. We were ready to ask for a refund and try our luck somewhere else. We told the woman at the front desk about our room and she immediately apologized and gave us another room. She was very nice about it and didn’t seem shocked that we didn’t want the first room. I can’t imagine anyone would walk in that room and actually stay in it. She gave us a different room that was a pool side room. It was much brighter and smelled better. It was a modest room but we were so thankful to not be in the tomb room we were happy with it. The bed was comfortable and the noise from upstairs wasn’t too bad. I would never stay here again though because it is overpriced for the service and the rooms. The restauraunt was ok. Servers were nice considering how understaffed they were in the restaurant.
I suggest spening a little extra on a much nicer place or saving money and going to a Best Western because you aren’t even getting a room that is as nice as some Best Westerns here. I think this place you are paying for the supposed charm but they forgot the charm.

Other than potential health violations, the staff were accommodating, if disingenuous.
We arrived an hour early, and the woman at the counter was kind enough to let us check into the room, saying the room was in the system as clean and ready. Then a younger girl came over and told her she couldn’t. They conversed in Spanish (thinking I couldn’t understand, which I thought quite rude to try to pull on us). So the first receptionist told us to come back in an hour, with the lie «the computer won’t let me check you in». She seemed quite embarrassed, and so were we. However in their actual conversation, the younger employee had said they only let «certain people in certain rooms» check in early. Yes I took offense.

The room is very spacious and welcoming. It needs updated décor: new bedding, new curtains, big eyecatching paintings, less weathered light fixtures would help tremendously. If these things get replaced I would be willing to grant another star. Fresh paint and new carpet goes a long way. Invest in tile through out, green carpet. yuck. Regardless, it was surprisingly very clean and well kept. I stayed in the king suit, the bed is soo comfy! The bathroom conveniently has two sinks and a nice big shower! The first floor looks out into a jungle like, grassy atrium, the rooms double doors open up to the surprisingly big deck, complete with table and two chairs. A path outside the patio leads up to the pool. Overall for the price of $ 140 I was pleasantly satisfied.

Affordable place to stay. We spend one night, and our room was pretty clean and well prepared. Bathroom was working perfectly and again, super clean. The bed was a king size, soft and comfortable mattress, tv and balcony views. This hostel is surrounded by lemon trees and probably this is the reason of his name. Smell very good by morning because of trees.
You can walk and see some small commercials around, but definitely you need a car if you want find restaurants or more.
I didn’t have issues with noise, I was concerned about this because we read in previous reviews about that, but I guess we were lucky.
I removed one star because their restaurant close super early in Saturday and we had to take the car to have diner. Maybe I am too new yorker…

Made my reservation over the phone, confirmed for 4 nights… arrived and my reservation was only for one night. Luckily they weren’t overbooked, but this mistake could have been a big problem.
The wifi is practically non-​existent, don’t even bother. If you need to work, go to a coffee shop.
Bed was pretty comfortable. Unfortunately no mini fridge or microwave.

Sadly, this review was supposed to be 4 stars but after the impromptu late night pool party occurred last Saturday night, this is now a 2 star review.
4 stars: the super comfy beds, the room size, the balcony view of the courtyard and the fantastic pool.
1 star: the young, inexperienced staff who had no idea how to handle a party that multiplied and no security to keep the non-​guests out.
This is a hotel who wants to be upscale. The prices are upscale, the rooms are nice, the restaurant is also lovely. But they have not risen to upscale status when they can’t handle their clientele. (Let just say that I’m not a prude here… parties are fine, but rowdy drunken fests are not. There was shouting, cursing and verbal threats being lobbed around during the shindig. Uncool.)

This place was great to us. They let us cancel a room at the last minute and we liked the room they gave us. It was clean and the restaurant inside the hotel had great good. We will definitely be returning if we are back in town!

I did not pay for this room as it was paid for by my girlfriend’s parents so I cannot comment on the price, but I thought this was a solid hotel. I rarely can sleep in hotel beds and I did an okay job sleeping here. It isn’t anything special but it sure got the job done. My one complaint is the shower was a little dirty. Not enough for me to not shower, but I was hoping for a little more.

Great place to stay!
The lemon tree inn is a cute hotel in a quiet part of town. The rooms are right between retro and old, so you have to be a little tolerant of outdated furnishings and décor. HOWEVER! The beds are sooooooo comfortable. Pillow top mattresses with soft, fluffy blankets aplenty. Water pressure is strong and water is hot, so other than a hot shower and a comfy bed, what else do you need out of a place to spend the night?
Very affordable and great location.

My folks had dinner at the Lemon Tree & raved about the food–
I joined them one evening and it was in fact great! Now it’s one of our favorites. There’s beautifully crafted jewelry for sale in the lobby too–

Ein sehr schönes Hotel, das etwas abseits des Zentrums liegt, dafür hat man seine Ruhe. Die Zimmer sind groß und sauber, sowie die ganze Anlage. Das Personal ist hilfsbereit und zuvorkommend. Das Auto kann man direkt vor dem Zimmer abstellen. Die Preise sind etwas gehoben, jedoch nicht überteuert. Das im Hotel liegende Restaurant haben wir nicht getestet, da es preislich gesehen doch etwas teuer war. Man hat uns günstige Alternativen im Zentrum empfohlen.

Very nice well kept hotel. Not too big not too small. Landscaping very pretty. Staff very polite & courteous. Jason S. at front desk was friendly and very helpful to all our questions about the area. Will definitely return here for Fiesta.

We decided to drive up to Santa Barbara from LA for the night and found this hotel advertised online. Overall this hotel was overpriced and we were underwhelmed by what we got. This was not worth the money.

I used to be a repeat customer at this hotel. Not anymore.
My friends and I had a one night stay on a Saturday night. We returned to our hotel at a reasonable hour (around 9 pm) and we were on the 2^nd floor. We were sitting on the balcony, when our neighbor came screeching outside (topless, I might add) screaming obscenities at the top of her lungs. She continued on and on to berate us and then went back inside to call the front desk not once or twice… TWENTY SEVEN TIMES in the course of 30 minutes. Cue the front desk removing us from our room and moving us to a smaller, less accommodating room that should have cost us much less. The way the staff handled it was abhorrent, and when I followed up via email with the manager the following week, I was ignored.
Don’t stay here unless you want to feel like you’re not valued as a customer.
