CA tax increase Santa Clara County 9.25%

It could be worse, as Celeste B. points out. The silver lining I look to is that the tax increase is temporary, and will expire on either July 1, 2011 or July 1, 2012 depending on what voters decide about Prop 1A on May 19, 2009.
I don’t mind doing my fair share to help out California, but I’d like to see more progress on reforming the California budgetary process!
California is one of just three states in the country that require a super-​majority two-​thirds vote of the legislature to adopt the budget (the other two being Arkansas and Rhode Island). This allows minority stakeholders to hold the majority hostage, and we are paying the price!

Stupid, just plain stupid

LAME! I don’t want to buy anything anymore…
Hopefully that extra 1% will go to something good or useful. And at least its not 9.75 like Alameda County :(

sigh. I don’t even know why this occurred. collectively, we have one of the highest taxed areas in the country from income tax to sales tax, and in the end we are continually diving ourselves into deficit. is it because our government officials just can’t figure out how to spend the money correctly?
even worse is all the news I hear about how all of the school programs are being cut such as art /​PE /​music. how is this a good use of our funds?

No!

So absurd.
Yeah, we have the cleanest most well-​kept streets in the country; yet we don’t have enough money to pay for Physical Education classes in our elementary and junior high schools. Great – now we’re going to have armies of little obese children marching over and putting cracks in our sidewalks. Cracks that our state can no longer afford to repair.
This is what happens when government can’t regulate its spending and the tax payers have lost all sense of frugality and restraint when it comes to living within one’s means.
Unfortunately, California is a small scale of what’s going on in our country as a whole. It’s only going to get worse before it gets better. I recommend learning how to hunt for your food, as well as, living without your Gucci hand bag and fully loaded SUV.
Sounds impossible, I know.
