Exclamation Point is a needlepoint and sewing shop serving clients from our location at Franklin Mall in Santa Clara. We sell everything needlepoint, as well as supplies for counted cross stitching, tatting, crocheting, embroidery, and much more. We also have a resource library including general designs, needlepoint, books with patterns, alphabets, and other information on specialty needlework. History

Established in 1982.

The Exclamation Point was most recently located in Saratoga, Ca. and owned by Dee Mathews. Melanie Vancil bought The Exclamation Point and relocated it to Santa Clara, Ca. She is also expanding the inventory to include supplies and patterns for counted cross stitch, embroidery, knitting, crochet, and other embroidery techniques.

Business Owner

Melanie first became interested in the needle arts when she was about 4 or 5 and her mother was doing embroidery. She used to beg her mother to let her do it too, which she then allowed. When Melanie was about 10 she wanted to learn to crochet. Since her mother did not know how to do that, she bought a book and taught herself. When she was about 16 she started teaching herself to knit. Melanie completed her first sweater for her father when she was 18. Melanie has done a little crewel embroidery and some printed and counted cross stitch. She got into needlepoint about 2005 while doing renaissance faires and has kept going ever since!
