Summit Bicycles

I am giving this place a 1 star review for the following reason.
First I actually think this place has competent mechanics who are capable of getting the job done. I have asked them to fix a few things before but the pricing is way way to aggressive for the service received.
Today I came in for a issue I thought I had with a bottom bracket installation that was done previously by one of the mechanics. I heard creaking which sounded to originate from the bottom bracket. I explained to the mechanic what was going on and he took my road bike for maybe like 20 minutes to investigate the issue.
I should also explain that a few days before I took my roadbike to another shop that is closer to my home, The Off Ramp on El Camino and San Thomas so that they could adjust the rear dérailleur because it was obviously in need of adjustment. They took care of that problem in a few minutes and I checked it out to make sure it was all good and left satisfied. In fact I rode my roadbike to and from work and school. (I set new PR on Strava! and can prove the miles ridden on my account)
Now back to the creaking issue. It was on my ride yesterday that I noticed this creaking coming from the bottom bracket (or so I thought) because on further investigation from the mechanic he discovered that it was actually just a peddle issue. One or both of the peddles were installed without any lubrication (obviously not the bottom bracket)
He took care of that issue and am thankful for that.
I was actually relieved to hear this but then he said something very very strange. That my rear dérailleur needed adjustment likewise my front could use some attention.
Now either the Off Ramp din’t adjust my gears correctly and I imagined perfect shifting yesterday and before I walked into the shop (as I rode it to the shop) or my rear dérailleur became un-​adjusted in the 20 minutes the bicycle was apart from me.
Either way he offered to adjust it for me for 15 $ front and rear which I declined due to being suspicious.
After leaving the store I rode away and sure enough, now my bike din’t change gears correctly. I manually adjusted both front and rear dérailleur when I arrived home and I believe the barrel adjuster for the rear was tampered with during that 20 minute time. (the front dérailleur also needed a slight turn of the barrel and definitely did not need a mechanic to do this for me) I am an avid cyclist and am very disturbed by what happened today.
Cyclists beware.

My brother and I flew in to San Jose from Atlanta for a long weekend earlier this month. We had one extra day to goof off and decided we wanted to go mountain biking. Zack helped us set up the bike rental on their easy-​to-​use website and took care of us when we arrived at the shop to get the bikes. He also helped us decide on a trail system to ride. They got us fitted on the bikes and off we went. I would recommend the Flow Trail at Demonstration Forest. It’s worth the hard work. Lots of fun. I’d also recommend San Jose Bike Rentals. We had a great experience and would rent from them again. Thank you.

They rent great electric bikes (long range, easy to use), and child trailers with helmets included. Delivery and pick-​up of bike (s) is included. Friendly service. They take credit cards.

I bought a Trek Emonda S4 here at full price and noticed the prices dropped a week later when I was getting a tune up. They provided me with a credit for the difference so I got a Bluetooth cadence meter. Robert helped me and they were very accommodating. I test ride 3 different bikes, then came back and test ride 2 again before deciding on the Emonda. Highly recommended, they’re not snobby, they’re helpful! Cupertino Bike Shop is closer to me but they are way too snobby!

I have heard some bike shops are not happy to fix your bike if you have purchased a non branded bike online from some website. So when my new bike’s tyre had a buldge on one side, I was unsure about how it would go when I went to Summit Bicycles. But the experience was very pleasant. They did not look down on my bike. They were all very friendly and the guy who helped me was very quick. Not only did he fix the tyre but he also checked my gears and derailers settings and adjusted them. All the while giving me information about how to diagnose problems on the bike and avoid them. He was super friendly and very quick. On top of that they did not charge me anything. After spending like 15 minutes on my bike, he says, «there is hardly anything I did here». Judging by the way they treat customers, I am sure a bike buying experience here would be a good one. I recommend this place.

This guys do small fixes FAST! Great guys too, very nice. I was in and out with a brake fix in 5 min, and got an axle issue fixed this winter in 10

This is a top notch bicycle shop. From the sales to the service department all of the employees I worked with had the customer in mind and where truly interested in making sure that I was getting what I was looking for.
Their prices are fair.
Their advice is solid.
Their service is exceptional
I was undicisive and even changed my mind on a special order I had already placed. Summit Bikes made the change to my order and it did not delay the arrival of the product. They allowed me to try parts on my bike before purchasing them so that I could see the difference in feel and performance. Also Bontrager products have a 30 day no questions asked return policy. They stand by this policy.
In the end the adjustments made and parts changed on my bike made for an improved riding experience. Making me one happy cyclist. Thank you Summit Bikes!

I usually stay away from specialized bicycle stores, particularly here in NorCal, because most are just righteous snobs, but not this one, at least this branch. I don’t know about Los Gatos– good luck with that.
Look for Zach– he’s so helpful, making up to 4 adjustments with my newly purchased roadbike saddle before I rode out of the shop. He didn’t upsell me anything I didn’t need either. Thanks, Zach– you’re awesome!

Great experience buying my 11 year old daughter a mountain bike. Friendly service and willing to answer questions. We bought a bike and several accessories. The headlight we purchased started malfunctioning a month after buying it and they without hesitation took care of us replacing it. We will be back!

This is my favorite Summit shop, and i like all of them. If you buy a bike from them you can bother the mechanics every single day and they will check your bike. They also have a fitting machine that looks insane, which i had the money to get fitted. This is the place I trust, and they do a good job at hiring people that loves bikes and cyclists…

I have been to this store to shop for bike and sales person was very knowledgeable, did spend few minutes with me explaining nuts and bolts on bike parts but he didn’t force me to buy, i did walk out without purchasing as i am working on budget and i will definitely come back to purchase. They do offer unlimited tuneup if you purchase bike here as long as you own the bike.

Great place if you are looking to purchase a new bike or gear. I left very satisfied. They were extremely helpful and knowledgable. They took very good care of me and even got my girlfriend setup with new skinnier tires for her bike. Definitely be coming back for any other bike purchases or tune ups. HIGHLY recommend them.

This week, I was provided with excellent customer service from Anthony at Summit Bicycles, in Santa Clara, and I truly appreciate it.
Not only did he fix my sons bike to riding well, he helped me load my sons bike into my car .
I am highly pleased with the professional manner in which Anthony has.
You have definitely gained a new customer who will refer friends to Summit Bicycles.

Big props to Joe, Robert, and sales guy (sorry I didn’t catch your name). I walked in late afternoon and picked out 2 bikes for my kids. My son wanted a special color which the sales dude checked their stock and had one in a box unassembled. My son loved it so Joe stepped up and promised to have it built by closing time so we could take it home the same day. Thanks to them… I have 2 happy kids!
I’m a regular summit bikes customer at their san jose, los gatos, and now santa clara locations. There is a reason I keep coming back… they take care if their customers… you can’t go wrong w summit bikes!

Being new to cycling and the world of triathlons, I was told over and over how important it was to find a LBS you could trust, ask the «dumb» questions to and really listened to what you were trying to accomplish. Summit did all these things. In particular, Robert. From the first time I walked in, he asked me about my lifestyle, what I wanted to get from a bike etc. I told him of a previous injury, he busted out an anatomy book so he could understand the implications to cycling. BTW, a shorter crank for starters. Robert spent a couple of hours with me, ordered all the parts I needed and after picking up the bike and going for a long ride, things were off. Went back in where he spent another couple hours doing an extensive bike fit. This shop exceeded my expectations and the level of knowledge is unprecedented. This is my bike shop for life! Thanks Robert!!!

First off, I have a very specific kind of bike. The mechanic, Joe, is very well informed on all types of bikes and has helped me out numerous times. He’s never turned me away and he is always very personable. The customer service here is great and this is the main bike shop that I recommend as far as maintanence goes.
Joe has a really long history with bicycles and I think that it’s in your best interest to go say Hi to him.

It’s a hit and miss here, just like with most other bike shops. I have had very good experience (they replaced my broken power meter very quickly), but also some pretty bad experience.
One time I had my chain replaced and the tech put it on completely incorrectly and the chain was rubbing like crazy. I noticed it only after riding couple of minutes on my trainer. When I brought it back they tried to put the chain back by twisting the cage plate (because they could not be bothered opening a chain ring) ! Needless to say I had to bring my bike to a different shop (Sports Basement) where they had to replace the now-​bent cage plate.
So, in short if you want to buy a bike, this is a good place as they carry pretty good Cerelos and Specialized, but if you want to have your bike tuned or fixed, bring it somewhere else (or learn how to do it yourself — this was my solution)

Horrible experience here, brought my bike in because the gears weren’t shifting good. Cory worked on it and I paid for the shifting adjustment. When he returned the bike he suggested I replace my brakes, gears, and chain, everything he quoted came up to around $ 160. Which I kindly declined because this bike was only 2 years old with very little miles on it. The bike wasn’t shifting any better when I left, To top it off after a few miles of riding the shifter stopped working!
I ended up taking it to Performance Bicycle and they were able to fix it without any problems, I also mentioned that the guys at Summit suggested I replace some parts, the tech at Performance looked over everything and said that I can still ride this a few hundred miles before having to replace anything. I’ve been riding the bike for over 2 weeks now with it working great.
During my visit at Summit, I noticed a younger guy that was riding a scooter around the shop wearing a beanie. He appeared to be an employee, this place looks like a playground for him. Not professional bike shop at all.

I’ve been going to both the Capitol (Trek) and Los Gatos Summit stores since about 2011 when I started mountain biking. Actually, it was one of their demo events that got me hooked. Since then, I’ve purchased two full suspension mountain bikes and a road bike for my girlfriend. I’ve had countless tune-​ups and work done at the Capitol store. All of these experiences have been top-​notch, the prices were always fair, the staff exceptionally friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and the free lifetime tuneups that came with a bike purchases is an awesome perk.
I usually worked with Robert at the Capitol store — the guy is like a walking bike encyclopedia. So, when I recently went in to get a fit on my road bike, I found that he was now working at this new location in Santa Clara, which was actually even more conveniently located next to my office. So, I’ve been by twice in the last week, and this new location is really impressive. Same friendly, knowledgeable service with what appears to be a wider bike selection (Trek, Santa Cruz, Cervelo). If you live in the neighborhood and are into biking, or thinking of getting into it, put this shop at the top of your list.

This store opened here about a month ago, my first impression when first stepping in was that «its huge inside!». I’ve been to other bike stores and this is clearly one of the most spacious ones around here. They have tons of Trek and Santa Cruz bikes, I brought my Cannondale in for a tune up, my gears weren’t shifting properly.
The mechanic in the back (Tony) took my bike in and was able to adjust it on the spot, he also went through the bike and fixed my brakes for me, I didn’t realize they were rubbing! To top off the amazing experience here, Tony took the time to wipe down my bike of any dirt or finger prints. I got my bike back and it looked good as new, when I usually go to bike shops the techs leave grease all over the bike and I have to spend time at home cleaning it off. I am glad to finally have found a mechanic that cares for my bike as if it was his own. I will surely be back here for more service from Tony.
