Proprietor Sally Van Swearingen, celebrity and bridal make-​up and hair artist, formerly of Studio City, CA.

The A LIST Hair and Make-​up Studio was created in 2009. The vision was to design an intimate studio where clients are welcomed and pampered, yet feel the comfort of being in a friend’s home. Clients love the vast parking and the easy access locale.

Sally Van Swearingen, Rae Christman and Erin Tully combine their talents to create a quality A LIST experience. In three short years, it has become the «Go To» place for Red Carpet and special occasion events.

Sally Van Swearingen’s «journey to beauty» began at 19, with the discovery and ultimate passion for something she was really good at… make-​up! She went on a 20 year «road trip» with hundreds of brides and wedding parties of varying ethnicities, skin tones, age ranges and cultures, perfecting her skills of exacting flawless images for the camera.

This level of skill put Sally Van Swearingen in high demand as a studio make-​up artist and educator from Las Vegas to Montréal. Sally continued to grow as a beauty icon, by adding hair styling to her list of talents. Her concepts in creativity, The Bridal Make-​up Studio, in the 90’s and more recently, The A LIST Hair and Make-​up Studio, an intimate salon in Santa Clarita, are being followed by the next generation.

Rae Christman was my stylist. I told her how I really wanted to do something new and fun because I’ve been feeling a bit down after having my first kid. She listened to my ideas and looked at a picture I showed her. I wanted my hair to look like a sunset, and I really wanted it short in the back and long in the front. I told her I had the dye, and I just needed help actually dying it because I’ve only dyed my hair once before. She seemed very excited and set my appointment right away.
A few days before my appointment, she called me and said she had to reschedule because something came up. She was so sweet and apologized and set it up a few days later. When I arrived, the doors were open and the place was so beautifully decorated. It was clean and quaint. She was so nice and went over the ideas to double check she understood what I wanted. She lightened my hair and dyed it all in one session. She didn’t get any colors on my clothes. And even though we ran out of my colors, she used the salon’s and blended them perfectly.
I have never been so happy with a salon experience. I normally leave crying, angry or disappointed. I think this is the first time I left a salon feeling beautiful.

I go to Rae and I have to say she is the best hairstylists I have ever had. She’s a character and she’s very sweet. I trust her 100% with my hair because she always recommends the best ways to keep it healthy and stylish. Anyone who hasn’t gotten their hair styled by her is missing out!

OMG Sally, you are a true professional hairstylist. I felt like I was 60 years old with the tired look I have had for years. You colored it for me and cut a new style for me and I had tears in my eyes when I left. Tear of HAPPINESS ! Being a hairstylist myself for years, I didn’t want to say what I did for a living and just sat there and let you do what you felt would be a great change for me. Thank you Sally for helping me feel like me again and I looked 20 years younger. By the way, I bought the book you wrote and after reading it, I knew I had to meet you. Not only are you charming and polite, you are a fabulous makeup artist as I watched you work on a lady and she looked stunning. I remember you telling me you do brides and If I decided to divorce my husband, I will call you to do my makeup for my next wedding.

This is now my 4th straight year coming to Sally at The A List Hair and Make-​up Studio for my Halloween makeup.
For the 1st year, I was a zombie even before The Walking Dead became popular. Sally did an awesome job with my zombie inspired makeup. I won Overall 1st place Halloween costume at a local club event!
For the 2nd year, Sally helped me with a Pirates of the Caribbean/​skeleton face inspired costume. Again, Sally did an awesome job with my facial makeup and even did the makeup down my neck and upper chest to make it look like you could see my spine!!! I won Individual 1st place in another Halloween costume contest that year.
For the 3rd year, Sally help me with my make up for the Wizard of Oz Tin Man. That year, I didn’t enter any contests but did win the best costume at a house party!
For the 4th year, I’m back again and seeking Sally’s help with my Joker costumer (from the Dark Knight). I can’t wait to see what Sally comes up with this time around.
Note: For all of these appointments, I just brought a picture from the internet of what I was thinking to have done. Sally would then make it happen with her wizardry in makeup! With the zombie (throat cut), Pirates of the Caribbean (skeleton jaw), and the Joker (bloody mouth), I brought in the latex appliance and Sally put it on for me and applied the make up.
I would highly recommend the makeup services by Sally for the upcoming Halloween season!!! If you want to win a contest, she can make it happen!

Rae is absolutely amazing! Came to her with a complex color (a multicolor involving purple) and difficult hair to work with. She was great at explaining how the colors would work with my hair and how to get them to pop. Her recommendations for accent colors were spot on and, though my hair was being difficult, she worked until she got the purple to the shade I wanted. Love, love, love the way it plays with the highlights. Not to mention she is just the coolest woman ever and makes you feel right at home. Definitely recommend her to do your hair!

Sally is amazing; I read her book at least a couple of time and so identify myself with it. The message she delivers its great, The Beauty Power we all women have is amazing and we need to embrace it and regain it. Sally was able to beautifully put this on her book. All women need to read this book, highly recommended. I also use her make up products and they are the best.

O.K. so, My hair is pretty blonde– when I went in to have it done my roots were really grown out! I have had so many problems with other stylists that just cannot match my color correctly. So Cami did my hair which after a few days ended up being a bit darker than I wanted. I called her and she immediately told me to come back and she would fix it– she would do whatever it takes to get it perfect! Which she did and also deep conditioned and trimmed it all with no charge! She is very committed to a satisfied customer and will go above and beyond what most stylists will.
So, if you are looking for a stylists– go check out Cami! You won’t regret it :)

After my second cut its official, THIS IS MY GO TO SPOT! I have had my haircut twice now at the A List, and will be going to this saloon as long as Rae is still working there. It started with my first visit when I sat in Rae’s chair and she asked what I wanted to do with my hair. I had no idea and so she spent the time talking me through a few different styles. When I finally made my decision Rae took over and gave me one of the best cuts I have had in a very long time. On top of Rae’s amazing talent she is also an awesome human being which is just an added perk of going to The A List.

Love this place. Rae is a beam of light not only by the bright colors of her hair but, her enthusiasm and experience shine with how she works with color. I have had red hues for years and not been happy thinking this was the norm for many stylists who have done my hair. I hate red! Rae listened to my concerns and I love the color ASH is what I have wanted and finally have the perfect color!
For such a young stylist, hair is in her blood and mine shines because of her!

Sally has the best makeup line I’ve ever used. Studio Essentials Cosmetics has become a part of my everyday routine, I’m in love! The primer is my number one, it’s a lightweight sunscreen and a moisturizer that is tinted perfectly for my skin, when I use her Baked Hydrating Powder over my Tinted Primer it doesn’t feel like I have a bit of makeup on my face. It may sound too good to be true, but it’s here and it’s real. Mascara? She’s got you covered. It never gets clumpy or flakey and I can wear it all day into the night. She’s even developed a blush that looks good on LITERALLY everyone, seriously I’m in love.

My visit today to Sally Van Swearingen’s boutique-​like beauty salon was a lovely afternoon cut, style and chat with its owner, Sally. Her shop is cute, clean and comfy. Before my appointment, I watched her working with 3 young women who were planning a GNO. She had cut and styled, waxed eyebrows, etc. making the women feel like little princesses ready for their princes of the evening. She asked me what kind of new look I wanted and snipped away until it was there. I’m going back, of course, for more… maybe a makeover by this skilled makeup artist or a new hair color by one of her best colorists on my next visit, but whatever it will be, I know I will be in the care of talented and expert hands and at a cost I can afford! Thanks, Sally, for a fun afternoon!

Favorite salon by far. There is a gifted hairdresser named Rae working there. I came to her upset with what another salon did to my hair. Not only did she fix the damage she did exactly what I wanted with my hair and more. She gave me advice and what products to use. You can see the passion in her work. And besides that she has an awesome fun personality and has amazing style. She gave me an amazing price and she really took the time with my hair. She worked until 9pm on my hair. I’ve never heard of a hairdresser that will stay after hours for a client. She was beyond sweet and did an amazing job. If you care about your hair and want top quality work done see Rae. She will definitely take good care of you. Thanku so much girl your so talented. I’ll be back soon.

Sally did an amazing job on my makeup for Halloween! I called her the morning of halloween & she squeezed me into her busy schedule. I showed her pictures of Day of the Dead ideas and she did my makeup exactly like I wanted. Sally is not only a awesome makeup artist but funny too! I absolutely love The A List salon. Everybody that works there is super talented and friendly. Especially Rae! I came to her looking for someone who could keep up with my ever changing style preference, and she grants all my wishes! She always does amazing color and cut, and she’s so well priced. Definitely going to be a life long client. Also they have amazing makeup and I swear by the under eye concealer. I walked in not knowing what to do with my hair and said «do what you think is best» and Rae took my hair and made me feel like myself again. Now we’re on a two week plan to get it perfect! What all can i even say about Sally and her salon?!
I have been going to see Sally for 3ish years and when I first walked in the salon, I had jet black, box dyed hair. I am a natural blonde and I was desperate to get back to a lighter, more natural color. As anyone who’s going from light to dark, we all fear turning orange or our hair being fried from the bleach! I sat down with Sally and we went over the process that she was going to do and within a few hours I was down to a dirty blonde without any orange or straw like hair! One more visit and I was a bright honey blonde and it was perfection!
Sally has always done such an amazing job and she’s that stylist that really loves to talk to you and get to know you! As long as Sally is in the same state as me, I’ll always go back!
Her prices have always been very reasonable as well!
