Training Cesar’s Way

I personally haven’t been to the training center yet! But from watching «dog whisperer «and reading two books out of the three I have bought and using the techniques. Cesar has suchhhhh a wonderful gift to be able to read animals and to know how to execute the right technique. Cesar is to awesome!!! So grateful for his wisdom!

Dear Cesar I have a 1 year old Female Blue Nose Pit Bull. She is such a good beautiful dog that is a ESA Dog, but I am in the Army and me and my wife can not take her with us. We do not want to put her in a pound. So we are really looking for a home for her and we are unsuccessful on finding her one. I ship out in 2 week’s and am really looking for help on that. What an AMAZING experience I had with Boss! We got to go to a fundamentals training class with Cesar Millan for 5 days, and it was totally worth every single penny.
Total hands on training as well as classroom lectures, but I had such a great time learning all the new techniques and about dog psychology.

Life Changing Experience!
I graduated last week from a 5 day course called Fundamentals 1. I am in the dog business and also a positive reinforcement dog trainer that was a little skeptical of what I would learn while there.
It was 5 full days of hands on seminars, one-​on-​one training with my dog, pack walks, swimming, sheep herding, dog park, dog on dog introductions and much more. Cesar Milan personally spent about 25 hours of the 40 hours with us and his Head Trainers and Assistants worked with us in small groups practicing everything.
It was extremely well organized, very professional, amazing food, great workbook with notes and lectures taught by Cesar.
His methods are simple and not aggressive or forceful in any way. My dog was psycho and trying to lunge at people and other dogs every day and his team showed me how to gently apply leash pressure and not to pull hard on the leash. My method was agitating my dog more and making her react when unnecessary and their methods worked within minutes. My dog is fine but I was the one that needed more training and had to learn how to stay calm and in control.
THANK YOU to Cesar and his amazing team for making me a believer and showing me the way.

Unfortunately, this was a waste of money. My little rescue dog was not allowed to play with the others in his «socialization class». All we did was basically pack walks. If you think Ceser is in involved at all, you’d be mistaken. He only shows up at the first sign up meeting. These trainers are nice people, but not Ceser Milan.

I have nothing but great memories of my experience at the DPC. Everyone is super friendly and knows their stuff. I took the agility class and it was sooooooo much fun! My dog loved it. I am going to bring my lab now and take the Search and Rescue class next. Great way to spend a Saturday!

Absolute best trainers, hands down! Jen, Jesse, Kristin, Heather… They are all amazing. My dog was so terrified of motorcycles that he ripped off his dewclaw, and shattered my car windshield on different occasions. Within minutes they had him running happily next to the quad, and he now rides peacefully with me in the car. I drove up from San Diego every weekend and would highly recommend driving any distance to go to these classes. THEY ARE WORTH EVERY PENNY!

We recently chose two rescue dogs after our other dogs passed from old age, 13 & 14 years. These dogs definitely have insecurity problems. After taking one of the classes at Cesar camp i am a firm believer in his methods. Jennifer was my trainer and i was amazed at how well she was able ro defuse the problem dogs in the class. Just like they show it on Cesar’s tv show. Amazing ! They have plenty of other trainers on hand to help during class so you get plenty of instructions. It is not only for the dogs to learn but for the owners as well. Their methods really do work as i have seen it in my own dogs which could not walk within 10 ft of another dog without going ballistic ! we now take them to dog parks and walks without haveing to be embarrassed on how they act.
I already have and will continue to tell people about his camp.

My husband and I have taken both our dogs to the DPC. We enrolled in the clinics. Socialization, mastering the walk and agility. One of my dogs was stray for a long time. We did not know how to deal with his issues. Our instructor for all 3 clinics as Jen, the director, and we learned to much. I am finally able to walk my dog, he still has some issues, however, I fell that I am able to understand him much better and deal with the situaiton with confidence. I would stronlgy recommend the clinics to everybody, even if you don”t have issues with your dog. Our other dog, is amazing, and we enrolled in the agility class, it was so much fun and the bond with our dog so much stronger and great way to exercise for the fur baby and the humans too :)

From me and my wife: This place literally saved my dog’s life (and my sanity)! Rescue senior German Shepherd that was supposed to be a care and comfort adoption (give him a warm safe place to spend his last days). Well the TLC and food and medicines restored his health and here I am with an adoring protective big dog that I have no idea how to handle. Fast forward 3 years, countless trainers, dollars, and bites, I was at my wit’s end and thinking about putting him down. I had become so isolated, not taking Barney anywhere for fear of his behavior, and my fear causing him to be more protective and aggressive.
I signed up for the Socialization clinic, and wasn’t sure they would take us with his history. They did and both mine and Barney’s have never been the same. Jenn, Lea, and Robert, and their other staff have been nothing but engaged, supportive, and amazing in their training of ME and my dog. The classes are set up to give you tools for your dog, and then you have to go home and practice the techniques, over and over and over. Each week is more information, more practice, and more confidence, and the sessions at the DPC help to see where you’re at with all the other dogs around.
We have gone back for the Socialization 2 and 3, and we’re ready to start the Search and Rescue so Barney can have a J.O.B. I drive almost 2 hours each way for the classes, they are that valuable! The information, technique, and energy taught here is for people who LOVE their dogs and want to help their dog achieve balance and happiness. And as a dog owner, I have the skills now to be a dog handler when we are out in public. I now look at each encounter with a person/​dog as a training opportunity, and not a dreaded OMG what’s going to happen this time.

The Dog Psychology Center with Jennifer as their leader is the BEST dog training facility! I attended three dog training sessions here with a rescue dog that was fearful of men and was dog aggressive. Jennifer and her team worked with me and my dog to helped us both through a very traumatic time. He has become the best dog and I am no longer fearful of taking him anywhere.

I have many years experience working in the animal welfare industry and could not wait to attend the clinics. Jennifer Grey was my head trainer for search and rescue, intermediate obedience and socialization, mastering the walk and agility. I was able to learn so much during the training clinics. This is the only place I am comfortable bringing my dogs to do training and would recommend it to people of all skill levels.

I’ve attended 3 classes with 3 different dogs at the DPC– Mastering The Walk, Agility, & Search and Rescue. All of which were incredible learning experiences for both me and my pups. The trainers & volunteers are not only knowledgable, but fun and friendly. I dove in trying to learn and absorb as much as possible. Making a point to pay attention to every dog in class, I got to witness the different approaches that the trainer, Jennifer, used. No single approach works for every dog, and I was impressed with her ability to read the dogs and their owners to help them effectively and gently reach their goal. Especially in the Agility & SAR classes, some dogs are «better» at the obstacles than others, but there’s no pressure or judgement to do it any way other than what keeps the dog & owner comfortable & happy. The fellow students were constructive and supportive, it’s truly a positive, relaxed & fun vibe! Positive reinforcement is a huge tool used in all the classes I have attended. And you truly get out of it what you put into it!
Another added bonus is you are allowed to bring one guest or family member with you. This was especially important for me because I could bring my 12 year old daughter. We worked as a team and learned everything we were doing right and wrong. Having her there helped us carry our new habits and skills home to teach the rest of the family. Not to mention the great leadership skills my daughter learned from practicing how to be calm and assertive, and the wonderful mother/​daughter bonding that went on. :)
I have attended several dog training classes & seminars whether for obedience, body language, behavioral issues or just fun. I’ve rarely come away unhappy from any of them, but I’ve NEVER had as much fun or taken as much knowledge away from any class until I attended the DPC!!!
There is an overall relaxed and supportive energy on those grounds. Oddly, my dogs behaved better when there and my daughter and I both felt more calm & in control. When I was explaining these feelings to the trainer, Robert, I thought he summed it up quite well. Cesar’s Way is meant to teach owners how to be calm and assertive in order to achieve calm and submissive dogs. The energy at the DPC is intentionally kept stress free & positive. They work very hard at keeping every dog (and owner) on the property in that state of mind to maintain a healthy learning environment. Made sense to me when I called upon my previous training experiences… Bottom line, I can’t say enough about these clinics and highly recommend them to anyone needing help or looking for a fun activity to do with their pup! I’m already planning on returning for more next season.

I’ve been bringing my dogs to classes at the Dog Psychology Center for almost a year. Both have gone through the series of socialization classes they offer. These classes are designed to increase your dog’s ability to interact with people and other dogs in public settings (on and off leash).
I cannot say enough great things about the DPC. Both my dogs are rescues and came with pretty bad problems that I haven’t been able to fix on my own. One is reactive towards dogs when off leash, the other towards people. My dogs wouldn’t be allowed in most other types of dog classes, but the DPC was just what they needed. I had tried everything before bringing them there – agility, obedience, positive reinforcement, every type of harness and collar, etc. Everything just seemed to make my dogs worse, or were just temporary ways to distract them from their underlying issues.
I’ll admit that I was skeptical at first, but all the trainers here are fantastic and incredibly knowledgable. We’ve worked with Jennifer, Lia, Robert and Dayna and I can’t say enough great things about all of them. Unlike what other reviewers here have said, I have seen the trainers go to incredible lengths to keep dogs (and people) safe during classes. Aggressive dogs are initially muzzled, and people are instructed not to touch or make eye contact with other people’s dogs. No matter what happens, the trainers always stay calm and in control. Yes, they do use corrections to keep dogs in check, but I personally think it’s much more inhumane in the long run to isolate your dog, let your dog be unstable, or risk putting other people/​dogs in danger. I even boarded my dog-​aggressive dog at the DPC so she could get some extra help with her issues, and she loves the trainers. It’s also clear they love all the dogs they work with.
Even though the classes are expensive and it takes me over an hour to get to Santa Clarita from LA, it’s totally worth it. I’ve seen dogs go from completely out of control in socialization 1 to being much more balanced and stable six weeks later. It’s not a «miracle» like they make it seem like on TV, but if you go with an open mind and a willingness to listen to what they have to say, you will see results.
Oh and I highly recommend swim lessons with Robert! One of my dogs used to hate water (to the point where she wouldn’t go outside when it rained), but not anymore!

So I have a dog who developed REALLY BAD dog aggression after being attacked before by another dog. His aggression was to the point where my wife wanted me to get rid of him, but I adopted him and wasn’t about to give up on him. After consulting Cesar’s head trainer Jennifer Grey she recommended I do the board and train since he was such a extreme case. I agreed and they kept him for 3 weeks. When he came out he was a lot better but he and I still needed a lot of work (as was expected). I then joined the clinics on socialization. I have been going to every clinic since. (It’s been about a year) The clinic are amazing. Jennifer runs most of them and her expertise is second only to Cesar Milan’s. ;-) She makes the sessions fun and easy to grasp. I have read a review here that describes the teachings as «negative reinforcement «if you got that out of their training then you must not have been paying attention. My dog went from one of the worst cases they have seen to a teaching aid during the class. Which I might add makes my dog really happy. I really look forward to going to the classes because I always learn something new.
From doing this training I have gained a true understanding of dog psychology and behavior. I have learned to read my dog and other dogs body language. I have also seen a change in how my dog views me. It is as though I have gained a huge level of respect from him. This is something even my wife has noted. Now we are still not done yet. He still needs more work, but the fact that I can walk him side by side with strange dogs is one major leap forward. I could not have done it without Jennifer Grey or Cesar Milan. They gave me my best friend back and for that I will always be greatful .

I love the Dog psychology center! I was looking to build a better bond with my dogs so I signed up for the master your walk & socialization. I had a insecure pit bull and a little terrier with a set mindset. Jennifer and the rest of the trainers/​staff delivered beyond my expectations. They helped me understand and learn more about my dogs’ behavior along with better learning other dogs’ behavior as well. It’s so awesome to be able to walk both dogs without any pulling, to be calm & assertive when unexpected things happen on our walks, and not have to cross the street anymore to avoid dogs.
The socialization class has helped me be a better leader in my family which has allowed Lola to be less insecure and more confident. Excited to try out the agility training next month!
An added plus is they have an amazing boarding facility. Last time I boarded my dog there she got to learn how to swim and use the treadmill. I felt peace of mind leaving my dog there with the knowledge that she is in good hands. When I came back she was so happy which sold me on this place. They build leadership and empower dog guardians/​owners here, highly recommend this place. Gold stars all around!

I can honestly say Jennifer and the rest of the trainers at the DPC are on top of their game. They so obviously love dogs but also love people. They give you the tools and help you pick up the nuances of your dog and other dogs around you.
There is never more than 15 people in a class and plenty of trainers around to help everyone.
I brought my dog to the center for a different reason than alot of others in that my dog is terrified of everything. A fearful dog in my opinion, is even harder to help than an aggressive dog. After his training in a class and a couple of days in Board and Train, he is so much happier!
They have a class for all types of dogs and issues so help can be found here. They have Board and Train which is so great for any dog because they see how to be a dog!
I am so grateful my boy is doing so much better and actually enjoying his life!

I enrolled my dog in a socialization clinic where it was full of problematic dogs. One of the staff members dropped the leash to a student’s dog and it ran up and bit one of the dogs that they were using for the class demo. All the dogs in the class started barking and getting riled up and my dog was about to go into attack mode. As I was pulling him back from jumping into the fray, his bite was redirected from aiming towards the dogfight to the closest object, which was my leg. It was mayhem.
The Cesar way of training is very focused on corrections and therefore very much about negative reinforcement. Whether or not you agree or are comfortable with Cesar Millan’s methods and philosophy, safety is a must when you go into a class with dogs full of behavioral issues and with owners who need help. He’s not actually teaching any of these classes, which is ok, but you really want his dog trainers and staff to be vigilant. This was not the case. I have posted pix of my injury. They are lucky I did not sue as it’s been 2 months now and it looks like I have a permanent scar on my leg.
After this incident, the training for that day included walking your dog through a room full of agitated, barking dogs that were locked in cages. It was unpleasant and traumatizing. I don’t have an innate fear of dogs, well, my dog does, but I don’t. But even I was intimidated and traumatized by being barked at incessantly the whole time by dogs who are lunging towards the cage trying to get at you and your pooch.
A week after my unfortunate incident I read online that as Cesar Millan was walking a group of dogs one of which was a Great Dane in Studio City, a neighbor went up to greet one of these dogs and got bit on his hand and forearm and ended up in the hospital. So there you go. Reality TV is not reality.

Cesar is a good dog trainer. But he’s not the only one that has the natural instincts to understand a dog. It’s all mental, knowing, and understanding your dog. I have had several dog over my life time and they all were trained the same way by me. Cesar is correct on dog psychology, in order to be a great dog owner you have to be a great leader to the dog. Remember you can love your dog but the dog wants to be directed at all times. A dog needs purpose like the sled dogs in the Alaska Iditarod.
Make sure you study the dog breed before you get it, making sure that the dog you choose is correct dog for your lifestyle and desire. I have a Maltese dog and she is strictly a lap dog. She feel your emotions, she want to satisfy her master ²⁴⁄₇. So I train her to do tricks, with no treats as a reward just a «that’s a good girl and petting» she love to satisfy her master.
Remember you have to give a dog purpose, then love. Treat a dog like a dog and they will love you for that. «A DOG IS NOT HUMAN». Just a little free advice. Because Cesar want almost $ 6,000 dollars for a five day dog psychology retreat with him and your dog. WOW $ 6,000!!!
