New Name: Jasmine Thai Noddles & BBQ same amazing food!!! if you don’t see things from the Zapp menu just ask, they will make it for you.
So happy it’s not gone!

I’m updating because Zapp closed for a few weeks and are now reopened as Jasmin Thai BBQ. I was told its the same Jasmine Thai as the one on Bouquet. Now, first, I’m pissed because I was told by Doubletake deals that zapp was remodeling. There was no sign on the door to let customers know. I got my money back from Doubletake because I felt this was a shady business practice. Now, I see they are open as another restaurant. If it aint broke, why fix it? Zapp has amazing reviews. I looked in on the restaurant and there was no remodeling, so I was lied to. I did like Jasmin Thai when I tried it, but I’m confused on why we need 2 of them in the city? Zapp was doing great (or so it seemed).

I bought a certificate through Double Take Deals and asked for my money back since it looks like Zapp is closed (very upsetting since this is my favorite Thai place). They said that Zapp is only remodeling and will be opening in 2 weeks (that is around the beginning of March).
I really hope so and I’m sure many of you do as well.

CLOSED! Damn – I went to eat there the other night… boarded up tight, with an unpaid gas bill left lying on the sidewalk in front of the entrance. This was one of the best restaurants in town.

I love this place. The service is friend. They are pleased to offer suggestions if you are overwhelmed by the menu. Everything I had was good. The prices are quite reasonable. I try a different appetizer every time — I liked them all!
If you like spicy, ask for it. My favorite: tuna inferno!

I heard a lot of good things about Zapp. Its fancy hole in the wall that I never knew was there. Cute little place with good lighting and a short menu.
Nowadays, there’s way too many things offered at restaurants, and ALL the items aren’t that good. So PROPS to Zapp’s menu! Personally, I wasn’t blown away by the flavor of the food.
I could see why people like it though. We live in a predominantly white area, so toned down Asian food isn’t a bad idea AT ALL.
The soup I got was OK. I feel like this review is a little boring, but OK really is the correct word. The broth was a little watery, not enough flavor, but the other ingredients were cooked well and tasted pretty good. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll probably come back, but I’m hoping to NOT need half a bottle of hot sauce! HAHA.

Zapp is awesome.
I love coming to this place for lunch. $ 7.95, gets you a bowl of soup (the hot and sour is great) or a house salad, a full entrée, and a soft drink. An entrée normally starts around $ 9, so this is a huge bargain.
One of my personal favorites here is the Khao Kra Pow. It’s a Thai stir fry that includes a protein, basil, onions, peppers in a garlic chili sauce with a side of rice with a fried egg on top. If you like spicy, be sure to ask for it extra super spicy because it’s on the mild side. Another tasty dish is the Dragon Eye Fried rice. It’s basically a duck fried rice with longans. I would’ve like the longans diced, but it’s a huge portion and it’ll feed two easily.
I haven’t had any desserts, but the iced coffee and thai iced tea are also very good. The staff is super friendly and I’ll be back.

I was in Santa Clarita craving Thai Food and while searching on Unilocal I came across this place. Had decent reviews and great photos so I decided to give it a try.
The greatest thing about this place is you can order from your phone. I ordered easily from my android phone and it told me the estimated time it wld be ready for pick-​up. They also have free delivery but that would have been an extra 20 min wait.
I ordered the Cha Han, which was a HUGE portion of wok fried jasmine rice with egg, shiitake mushrooms, onions, scallions, and topped with fried onions. I put extra hot sauce on it to give it a kick but it was soooooo delish. The rice was cooked perfectly and they flavors worked so well together I was satisfied. It was soo large I couldn’t finish it all and had half as leftovers. The Breath of Wok dishes are so much bigger that the Single Dishes (my man friend had Steak Laos and mines was surly bigger). The only thing with the Cha Han is that it so much of the same thing it would have went well as a special wth some Bao or Shumai. But overall very satisfied: D

I liked this place, the service was great, the menu was good and there were a few items that I really liked.
The crispy curry rolls were REALLY good, The mussels were good, the soft shell crab was too salty and the Tom Yum Soup was good but the broth was thick. The mussels had a sauce that would have been great with rice and as thick as the soup. All in all — give this place a try. I’ll go back.

Khao kra pow: was ok, nothing special, I could make this at home.
Old Siam noodles: similar to duck noodle soup, huge portion.
Thai iced tea: perfect not too sweet or too milky :)
Great service, great prices.
Why they’re missing one star: the appetizer came out the same time as our food even though we ordered it 5mins before our entrees. All the food comes out luke warm.

I really want to rate this higher, but it’s been a tough week so I’m being more critical than usual.
So I found Zapp on Unilocal,a bit far from my work, but after a tough week, I needed a long lunch to survive the rest of my Friday. I checked out the menu online before heading out, and decided to get the Khao Kra Pow (w/​beef) lunch special. The lunch special (after tax) was $ 8.65, great price for lunch-​size meal with a drink and soup or salad. But there were two things that marked this down from 5 stars to 3.
First issue was with service. A couple that was seated a few minutes after me had gotten their soup before me. I was curious if my waitress had completely forgotten about me. A few minutes later one of the waiters came by with my Khao Kra Pow. I had asked him about the soup, and he was apologetic about the mistake and brought the soup right out. The rice and meat dish were piping hot when it came out, so I still ate the soup first, but it bothered me that my waitress completely missed it. The soup was delicious. Similar to that of another Thai place near home, but with a bit more spicy flavor to it (as compared to none).
Second was with the Khao Kra Pow. Don’t get me wrong, the flavor was delicious, the meat and veggies cooked the right amount each, and the sauce was very tasty. HOWEVER, if I order a dish that’s labelled to be «Spicy», I expect at least a little bit of spiciness. My mom is ridiculously sensitive to spicy food, and I don’t think she would’ve said one thing about it for this dish. I know we’re a good distance from Thai town, but if you’re a Thai place, even if it’s fusion, you can’t call a dish spicy when there’s zero spiciness to it.
That said, I will come back again to give this place a second chance. Like I said, the flavor was good despite the lack of spiciness, and I won’t condemn the place for a single mistake from a server. But if this is a reflection of the spicy dishes, a second time may be the last.
Side note (no reflection on rating):
The parking spaces in the private lot are tiny, so have discretion about bringing large vehicles in here. Over half of the spots are so small that a normal compact car fits the full length of the lines.

My wife pointed out in the takeout menu that there’s some fine print that you are supposed to specify how spicy you would like your spicy dish to be. I re-​checked the online menu, and that makes no mention of that (unless you order), but I don’t remember if the sit-​down menu had the disclaimer. But regardless, if that is standard practice, I should’ve been asked if I didn’t specify a spiciness level.

After many recommendations from friends and reading many positive reviews on Unilocal,I had high expectations for Zapp. And… they didn’t disappoint. The food was excellent!
For our first order, we had them deliver and I was a bit worried that it might not be fresh and hot by the time it got to our door, but again, they didn’t disappoint.
On recommendation, we ordered the Dragon Eye Fried Rice. It was good. We also tried the Massaman and it was excellent. I would order both items again. I requested one of the items to be spicy and the other to be extra spicy. Neither was too spicy, so if you like spice… don’t hesitate to to go with extra spicy as it will still be bearable and tasty.
Looking forward to ordering again and will put this place to the top of our list.

I really wanted to like this place.
After reading awesome reviews of this place, I decided to give it a try. It was between Zapp & Panda Express. I should have just stayed with my safe bet– Panda Express. I’m all for supporting mom & pop shops, but if I come up on mediocre food and ridiculously bad service, then i’d rather give my money to the commercial Chinese food conglomerate as a thank you for their plight of all-​around consistency.
There wasn’t anything that wowed me. Hainan chicken was gross, sriracha ribs weren’t spicy at all, beef pad Thai subpar, their chicken rice bowl was so-​so with 30% chicken 75% veggies & sauce, dragon fried rice is overpriced. No. No thank you. ~$ 50 for this mess?! Ouch!
Service is really bad. There were 5 of us, but there were cutlery sets for 3. I can’t do that math. Waitress didn’t understand us and I had to argue to validate a coupon. My sister finished her iced coffee and the guy was like, do you want another one? We asked if it was refillable (we know it’s usually not refillable but we trolled anyway) and said no. Hah. Who’s trolling who? 1 star for comic relief.
I asked for water since I finished my iced tea and he refilled my sister’s water instead. Wtf. After my meal, my water finally came.
The bill took longer than the food. Jk. But you know what I mean.
I thought I was being punked the whole time.
This is good… If you don’t know anything about Asian food or if you don’t know what damage Sriracha can actually cause.
Ok, I’m done, never going back. Carry on, B.

Black Sheep — The Choice is Yours

This restaurant was a delightful find. Thank you Unilocal.I was in the mood to try something different and looked this place up. The 3.99 Unilocal special intrigued me, so my office and I went. We loved it.
The ambiance: it is modern fusion feel in a small strip mall. The owners have obviously paid attention to detail, including having nice matching utensils, and cutlery. The art work on the walls is unique and consistently themed. The picures on Unilocal do it justice. the music that was playing was the only thing that struck me as incongruent. the restaurant is asian — modern asian — but the music was hip hop and pop. Although I quite enjoy listening to Britney, Cee Lo, and Katy Perry as much as the other guy, but I felt a little out of place with the music. But even with that acoustic ensemble, the experience was not diminished by any way.
Food: Wow. Awesome. Spectacular. the tuna inferno appetizer was awesome. My co-​workers loved the spring roll and it was good, but to me not lovable. The rest of the dishes were amazing. Each of us had something different and shared, and none of us were unhappy. I had the Khao Kra pow and was duly impressed. It seemed like it was fresh, flavorable, and worth overeating for. The Pad thai was good. And the chicken curry on the 7.99 lunch special was awesome, but I can’t remember the exact name of the top of my head.
The Unilocal special was nothing exciting. they already have a 3.99 special and basically it is a large bowl of different types of soups. The 7.99 lunch special was more to my taste: soup or salad, main course, rice.
Service: Very courteous and attentive.
This lunch place was so good, I will definitely come for dinner.

Having previously lived in New Orleans, when I think of Zapp, I think of Zapp’s Potato Chips. Which if you’ve never had them are pretty outstanding and better than most potato chips you’ll find in LA stores. But this isn’t about potato chips or the restaurant called Potato Chips. This is about a new Asian fusion place in a small shopping center steps away from a sushi bar. But don’t get the two confused. There’s no sushi at Zapp. Just some of the best Asian I’ve had up in the SCV.
It’s mostly Thai with some Japanese and Chinese elements thrown in. The interior looks like one of those funky Asian joints on Melrose or Sunset in West Hollywood. Lunch time is the best time to come. Me and my business partner tried two of the $ 7.99 combo entrees which came with a choice of soup or salad and a drink. So we figured the portions aren’t going to be that great. Were we ever so wrong. They were huge! The miso soup itself was typical miso and if anything, it could’ve been warmer but that’s minor stuff. The salad was a typical salad. Nothing special there. But that’s the only place Zapp even remotely strikes out.
I had the Khao Kra Pow while my partner had the Mee Goreng. Could not believe how big the servings were. They might as well have been dinner portions. It was a lot of food. My Khao Kra Pow was a little spicy but not much. It had a lot of chicken and was full of flavor intensity. The Mee Goreng had excellent pasta and again a lot of chicken. They definitely don’t skimp here.
For dessert, we split the Coffee Panna Cotta which was like a very intense coffee pudding on a big plate with swirls of chocolate syrup surrounding the dish. The plate was definitely too large for the serving of Panna Cotta we received. Still it’s the must-​have dessert if you’re actually still hungry.
I think the biggest problem Zapp has it exposure. As I mentioned it’s in a small shopping center on Valencia and Cinema sandwiched between a Sushi bar and an Indian joint. The sign outside just says ‘Zapp’ which to me means Cajun Potato Chip and to a lot of kids might mean arcade like Space Port. They’re doing deals with Screamin’ Daily Deals and Double Take but no Twitter or Facebook feeds (at least I couldn’t find them) and a weak website where the branding doesn’t match up. Interesting to note, BTW, the Reviews link on their site automatically goes here to Unilocal.Well, that’s got to make Katie B. happy. But it’s not enough. Would love to see this place survive but it’s got a lot to do to stay afloat.

This place is the shiz. I’m going to go ahead and give it 5 stars because I wasn’t disappointed one bit, although I can say I haven’t had MUCH Thai food. So I can’t really compare this place to anything else, but I can tell you the food is fresh, the ingredients are high quality, and the prices are spot on.
I went on a Sunday afternoon, so it was surprisingly empty. No joke, there was no one in there. Sometimes that can be an «Uh oh» kind of deal but that wasn’t the case here. My first impression is that the place is clean, modern, and has a nice atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and extremely quick.
I had the spaghetti with beef, and the flavors were all there and it had a perfect amount of spice (I like a lot, but it’s nice when you can taste all of the flavors and still clear your sinuses). The presentation was of a higher caliber than I expected from a restaurant like this. The best thing, roughly $ 9 – 11 a plate. Still enough to take home for left overs. Between my girlfriend and I, I loved what we had on our plate and I felt like I was getting much more for my money without sacrificing a quality meal. Is it traditional and authentic Thai? Hell if I know, this place is listed as «Thai Fusion» all I know is that my tummy said «Yum.»
I asked our waiter what the recommended dessert was, and we got the coffee panna cotta. I’m a big fan of creamy, coffee goodness, and I can say this desert was ace. They have lunch specials for $ 3.99 also, so that looks like a nice cheap lunch option, too.
On an end note, I’m coming back to this place, hopefully to try the BBQ ribs and something else. Maybe I’ll go on a Saturday night to check out what it’s like on a full house.

On the surface, Hainan chicken may seem boring and plain – boiled chicken with rice? But there is much more to it! Yes the chicken is boiled, but then the rice is cooked in the broth with garlic and ginger. Zapp also adds basil to the rice and serves the chicken with a sweet chili sauce. Leftover broth is served as a soup on the side, along with cucumber.
The meal was tasty, not the best hainan chicken I’ve ever had, but still fulfilled my craving at the time.
Overall the restaurant is has a trendy & new interior, service & food is good, and it’s pretty cheap. It’s a surprise when you walk in here since most of the rest of the shopping center is closed and for lease :(

Great new place for my husband and son to come and eat! We had the Shoyu ramen and shared the Hainan Chicken rice with our son. Our son enjoyed the Hainan Chicken rice and had two servings. That says alot coming from a two year old. Now for dessert; we had the Coffee Panna Cotta and the Great Tea Ice Cream with Red Bean. The Panna Cotta was to die for. It just melts in your mouth good.
Service was great and the place was nice to just hang out. Finally, a place to just come relax and eat good food!!!

Zapp has quickly become my favorite eatery in the SCV. Every week I go in to take advantage of their amazing lunch specials. $ 3.99 for a healthy portioned entrée or $ 7.99 for a combination lunch (salad, entrée, and fountain beverage).
For folks who only eat food that grows from the earth, there are plenty of options. Most everything can be made with tofu instead of meat. But be warned non-​pork eaters, there is bacon in some of the dishes and in the miso soup… just stick to the salad and you’ll be fine.
Some of my favorites:
Mee Goreng — oodles of noodles that combine sweet with heat
Spaghetti Kee Mao — a spin on the classic Thai dish Pad Kee Mao, but with spaghetti noodles in place of the flat rice noodles normally found in this dish
Khao Kra Pow — fried egg, jasmine rice, spicy sauce and sautéed peppers and meat /​tofu of choice
My friend raved about the Massaman dish, which is a curried chicken that looks like it is slow cooked in dense, flavorful curry sauce.
Coffee and hot tea is served in a French press.
The seating is comfortable, but the room itself is usually quite cold. So keep your sweater on, or don’t and let the spicy dishes heat you up!
