10-8 Auto Repair

Tony from 10 – 8 was absolutely amazing! He took the time to explain everything he was doing to my car and showed me step by step. He was friendly and incredibly patient. He took his time and even gave me some pointers as to how I can get the best out of future oil changes and services. I will surely be back again! Plus, he refilled my coolant and my wind shield wiper fluid!

These guys are the best. They are friendly, explain everything to you (albeit, they’re a little hard to understand), eager and prompt. They remember me and my car every time I go.
When I got my engine replaced six months ago, I called around to every auto repair shop in Santa Cruz and got quoted $ 3−6k. These guys not only had the lowest quote ($ 1900!!) but also offered to match anything lower AND found me an engine with fewer miles than any other repair shop could find AND threw in a three month checkup and oil change.
Dropping a star because after they fixed my AC, I was hearing a screeching sound and they told me that I needed a new AC compressor (hundreds of dollars to fix). A different mechanic told me that it was fine and fixed the problem by tightening the belt.

Chris is a wonderful mechanic! I would take any car to him to work on. Very knowledgeable and he also is polite and will ask you before he jumps in to work on your car! If you’re so inclined to wonder what he’s doing under your hood, he gladly shows you what he’s looking at and explains what he thinks the problem is and why. As the daughter of a mechanic, I would definitely trust Chris with any problem my car had, he’s reasonable in pricing and will tell you what you really need vs what won’t be an issue. FANTASTIC!

This guy saved us much time and headache. We were doing a long road trip south from San Francisco, and as we neared Santa Cruz, my boyfriend’s detector showed low voltage. He suspected the alternator was dying and we drove off the highway and into SC just before it gave out.
He spotted a «mechanic on duty» sign next to a gas station and pulled in, and right then the car sputtered to a halt. We crossed our fingers that the unassuming place would be able to fix our problem, preferably asap so we didn’t get stuck in SC. We were lucky. We were fit in without fuss despite the mechanic having some jobs before us, and the fact that he was returning from another city.
My boyfriend knows a lot about his car for being a layperson, and has made some modifications to it himself, so he could tell Chris knew his stuff… Not only was he very personable (he chatted with us and played music on request while we waited) and willing to explain things frankly, but he was also thorough and pointed out a couple other things that might be problematic down the road, but didn’t try to sell us on them.
He charged a very reasonable rate, which we really appreciated because we essentially had no other options. He called the auto parts place a few blocks down which delivered the part speedily, and then he installed it with no problem. After seeing him we were able to take off within 2 hours. We were able to do many more hours of driving that day, and haven’t had a problem since. Excellent service in my book. Highly recommended if you are in SC (or even if just passing through).

I had a great experience using 10 – 8 Auto Repair. I was driving to Santa Cruz from San Francisco when my transmission started shifting strangely. I went to 10 – 8 Auto on a Saturday, because it was the only place open. Chris stayed late, on his birthday, to service my transmission so that I could safely make it back to San Francisco that same weekend. He quoted me a price and then charged me less than what he quoted. My transmission now runs better than it’s ran in years! Chris cares about his customers and their cars. I would recommend Chris to anyone.
