Specialties

My treatment specializes in the treatment of sports injuries (triathletes, surfers, cyclists, marathoners, golfers, etc) and women’s health, and addresses pain and/​or tightness in the entire body. Each chiropractic treatment is tailored to your individual needs, is generally one hour long, and includes the use of hot packs, ultrasound, massage therapy, and gentle chiropractic adjustment, without the use of «popping or cracking» types of adjustments, as in traditional chiropractic treatment. By addressing the soft tissue with physical therapy modalities and massage therapy, adjustments are easier on the body and tend to last longer, so that patients don’t have to keep coming back over and over. The primary goal is to get the patient pain-​free and the secondary goal is to improve function so that the patient can do what they want to do for as long as possible, all of this as fast as possible.

History

Established in 1998.

I have over 20 years (5 years in Kailua, HI and 16 years in Santa Cruz) of experience in treating chiropractic patients, and 25 years of experience in massage therapy. I have been back in Santa Cruz for over 14 years and at my current location for over 8 years.

I was voted Best Chiropractor in Santa Cruz County in the Good Times reader’s poll in 2011.

I hold a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic — West in Sunnyvale, CA in 1991, and BA degrees in Biology and Anthropology from UCSC in 1986. I received my Certified Massage Practitioner certificate from Cypress Health Institute in Santa Cruz in 1986.

I was a competitive Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddler for 13 years (5 years in Kailua, HI and 8 years in Santa Cruz), and am well-​aware of sports injuries and the challenges facing competitive athletes. My current passion is dancing hula and Tahitian dance with Te Hau Nui Polynesian Dance of Santa Cruz.

I am married to Rex Walters, PhD, who is owns Coast Business Brokerage in Aptos. He helps people buy and sell businesses in the Monterey bay area.

Erica is fantastic! She takes the time to understand how you arrived at your current state. Positive, upbeat, encouraging, she is a font of information and feedback about strategies to get and stay well after leaving her office. Massage and adjustments are gentle and effective, and one visit doesn’t evolve into a long series. I see her when I have an issue, and it typically resolves after one visit. Over time, my tweaks are occurring less often.

I have been adjusted by Erica twice now and I refuse to see another chiropractor as long as she is in the area. While she has an absolutely gorgeous name, her wonderful bedside manner and excellent results are what will keep me coming back. Erica went above and beyond for me today when I called needing an emergency adjustment. I went in with excruciating neck pain and came out smiling and actually able to look left and right again! The tool she uses (called an actuator) is very gentle and allows for precise adjustments. And who could complain about getting massaged?! I feel so spectacular now and can go back to getting beaten up by my horses! I would recommend Erica to anyone looking for a caring, attentive, and talented chiropractor.
