Specialties

Tang Soo Do of Santa Fe is a martial arts school practicing traditional Korean karate. Our classes are small, allowing for plenty of individualized instruction in a family-​like atmosphere. Our head instructor, Master Richard Meyer, has vast experience teaching students of all ages, from beginning to advanced levels. We welcome you to join us to learn Tang Soo Do karate, one of the best exercises for body and mind, a very effective means of self-​defense, and fun, too!

History

Established in 1996.

In August of 2016, we’ll be celebrating our twentieth anniversary. We’re the only traditional Tang Soo Do school in Santa Fe County. Affiliate of the International Martial Arts Association.

I was working on a pyung ahn form, aka pinan or pyung hua, which are the turtle forms. I was thoroughly impressed by Master Meyer’s explanation of a particular set of movements which was a crescent kick then an unnoticeable mental pause to show balance, an ommitted foot stomp, the shoulder butt and extending out with a long reaching back fist. He explained to me, articulately and succinctly, not only the movements of the form, but of the optional omission of the stomp, the optional crane stance, and the history of changes in the form. I found this very interesting and it showcased one of the many ways that I am impressed by his knowledge and teaching ability. I am also impressed by his agility, speed and power. I have to work very hard to get the snap of the dobak but he makes it look effortless.
I also enjoy very much working with my fellow clasmates. They are a good crowd. Master Meyer maintains a pleasant environnent in which to work.
