Description

Specialties

We provide advanced technical skills training via small group sessions (4 – 6 players), focused mainly on small-sided games, to Santa Monica AYSO, Recreation and Club Soccer children aged 9 – 14.

We target players’ weaknesses, improve their strengths, increase their understanding of the game and raise their confidence on and off the field. We are focused on getting results but also make sure the kids enjoy themselves while learning.

History

Established in 2009.

Coach Rowan, 1v1 Soccer founder, is from New Zealand and moved to the US to be with his wife. His experience back in NZ saw him playing varsity high school and college level soccer followed by state representation for several years including winning national titles. As a semi-professional soccer player, Rowan played in both New Zealand and Germany.

Soon after arriving in the US, Rowan got involved as an assistant coach for a local Santa Monica AYSO team. After a while, he started to notice some of the kids weren’t getting the individual attention they deserved as this is hard to achieve in a team practice environment. Some of the kids lacked a solid base in the fundamental techniques of soccer, due mostly to never having been shown the correct technique.

So, to help bring these children up to speed and provide an all round fundamental skill training, he created 1V1 Soccer.

Coach Paul joined 1V1 Soccer in 2013 after moving to LA from England and took over the business in Dec 2014.

Meet the Manager

Paul S.

Manager

I’m Coach Paul. I am from England where I grew up as part of a soccer obsessed family with a twin and older brother. My father was a semi-professional soccer player and my grandfather was a professional so the game was always going to be in my blood. Both my twin and older brother played the game at a semi-professional level for 10 years and I was still playing at a high level (one step outside of the professional leagues) up until January 2013, my 17th year as a semi-professional. As a teenager, I had experience of playing at a professional club, Stoke City FC, as well as training and playing at a national select level.

My all-round experience as a high-level player, qualified referee and coach is an ideal combination which enables me to provide a perfect learning environment for the kids to feel comfortable, enjoy what they are doing and ultimately progress.
