Coast Sports’ Summer of Fun camp invented the human car wash! Enough said.

But seriously… for 17 years, Coast Sports has offered a unique and creative approach to nurturing kids’ athletic and social development. Our long-time coaches, some of the top club coaches in Southern California, have significant experience guiding young athletes through each stage of their journey, while celebrating each child as an individual with distinct talents and goals. Our trademark enthusiasm makes all our camps and classes fun and creative — the best way to encourage a lifelong love of sports.

History

Established in 1997.

«World domination, one four-year-old at a time.»

When asked about our program, our founder, Coach Steve, often jokingly refers to that as our motto. The line never fails to get a laugh and then he goes on to explain just what we do and why Coast Sports is different from everybody else. One of the first programs on the Westside, from an unintended beginning on a patch of Barrington grass with a dozen kids, some half-inflated soccer balls and a set of recalcitrant PVC goals, we’ve grown from one class to a weekly slate of offerings, two thriving summer camps, private lessons, birthday parties and programs with neighborhood schools. We’ve become a community at once vast and intimate. Each child is the most important child on the field; each family is an integral member of our own family.

Meet the Business Owner

Coach Steve M.

Business Owner

Coach Steve took an unlikely and circuitous path to creating Coast Sports. Determined from an early age to conquer Hollywood, he ran the Yale Film Society while at school. After graduation, he traveled the world producing TV commercials then spent 10 years as an aspiring screenwriter before stumbling into the world of youth sports. When his energetic four-year-old wanted to play soccer, Steve fell back on his high school experience and, with a bag of balls (and a few How-To books), he brought his son and a dozen pals out to the wilds of Barrington and they dipped a toe into what has become an endless sea of soccer.

Since 1999, Steve has been the coach administrator for AYSO Region 69, Pacific Palisades-Brentwood, training coaches and overseeing the program. He’s been chairman of the FC Los Angeles soccer club. What began as an excuse for father-son bonding has evolved into a highly respected year-round enterprise with a uniquely down-to-earth and fun approach to youth sports.
