This place has the worst service on the planet. My wife and I were here with our kids on Sunday looking to buy boots and skis for my wife. The person who helped us treated my wife so poorly. He smelled of pot so he was probably stoned. You’d think he’d be laid back. But he wasn’t. This jerk yelled at her and was nothing but condescending to her. In front of my kids!!! He told her to man up and not complain that the boots were too tight. «That’s skiing», is what he said. Other customers stared in disbelief at the way he talked to her. Finally I told her to take off the boot and that we were leaving. We have shopped here for years. Never have we been treated so poorly. In front of my 3 and 6 year old no less. It was unreal. I complained to Doc the owner and his attitude was dismissive. Perhaps if he laid off the booze during work hours he’d run a better store.

Got my snowboard waxed here, had great service. Sorry to see some folks had recent bad experiences, but for me, it was super easy with good customer service. They are the real deal, definitely know snow sports and I’ll certainly be back.

My family had a terrible experience here and will not go back. Just read the reviews and you’ll know. The customer is never right at this place, no matter the circumstance. Won’t be back.

These people are simply horrible. They closed early on a Friday before I could pick up my skis that I had left to be tuned. I arrived at 3:30 PM to a locked door, no note or number to call. The business phone went unanswered. I had to rent skis that weekend.
When I went in on Monday to complain, the said there was a «family emergency» and acted as if I was being unreasonable to expect them to stay open for the hours they had posted. I had prepaid, so I demanded that they refund my money. They literally threw wadded up bills across the counter to me while insulting my skiing ability (???).
If Doc’s were the only ski shop in LA I would give up the sport in order to avoid doing business with them. I don’t think there is any other business (including airlines and cable companies) that I loathe more.

Drove all the way up to this shop from Orange County since it’s the only ski shop in the LA area. Arrived to be extremely disappointed. The women’s ski boot selection was dismal. Tons of men’s boots, but barely any women’s boots. Most were last season that they were selling at this seasons prices. No performance boots at all. I have never had a more neglectful experience trying on boots. They just thew some boxes at me and left me to try them myself. They should require a license to fit ski boots. I knew more about the boots and offerings than the staff in the store. I left very frustrated that I wasted 4 hours round trip in traffic for such a bad experience. I checked out the ski selection on my way out and they didn’t have a lot of the new skis either. Skip this store and just wait till you get up to the mountain to someone who knows what their doing.

The product selection at this store is great. You’ll find mostly upper-​end equipment, which is great for people who are already invested in skiing and/​or know what they want. The customer service, however, left a lot to be desired. I should specify that the customer service of one particular employee was bad, including neglecting me for an hour, not showing the shop’s whole selection to me, and giving me just a general bad attitude. At some point in the 2.5 hours I was at the shop, another employee stepped in and offered me the advice and service I was looking for. I wish I had talked to him first because then I probably would have decided to buy from them!

I’ve been coming here for years. Friendly, knowledgable, welcoming service every time. Thanks Doc’s for doing it right!

Docs is far and away the only place in Southern California to get your ski equipment. Once I arrived I was made to feel like family. I spent hours there getting fully equipped, they took the time to make sure everything was perfect. Once I finally got out and used my boots, I had a pressure point the was a little annoying. I brought them in and within thirty minutes it was taken care of. I have always bought my equipment at mammoth mountain, but that’s no longer the case. Whenever I bring my skis in for a tune up, they ski like the first day they hit the snow. Also their clothing department carries nothing but the best! I have slowly been changing out everything with their help. Thanks again guys for all your expert help.

Doc’s mounted bindings onto my brand new 2015 Volkl Aura skis last Friday. During my second day of spring skiing in Utah yesterday, and only use of these new skis since binding mount, I noticed a screw had backed itself out of the binding. Lots of moisture got in. This is a huge red flag and can potentially lead to ski rot and complete binding failure if not addressed properly. All experts I’ve spoken to and evidence suggests that the technician (s) at Doc’s did not properly mount this these bindings to my new skis and this is very serious. In the decade that I’ve been skiing, I’ve never had this happen.
I had two technicians at Snowbird inspect and help me with this extremely concerning issue. They spent a whole hour using a heat gun and paper towels to soak up all the moisture that had gotten into my ski core around the hole. They inspected and investigated during this process and confidently said that whomever mounted the skies did not much if any glue into the hole. Glue is important to keep out the moisture. It is possible they used the wrong drill bit size as well, but the hole does not seem to be stripped so this is less likely. They also found no sign of any glue deep in the hole and they thoroughly prodded and used a light to triple-​check. I immediately asked them to look around other holes to double check the work that was done. They found glue around other parts leading us to believe this hole was just overlooked. Improper binding mount and screw failure could cause ski rot it not caught early could ruin my brand new $ 600 skis.
I had to take them to another shop last night and leave them overnight to properly ensure all moisture is out of the hole. I had to end my ski day early, lost ski time after purchasing a $ 90 lift ticket, and had to pay two shops to help me rectify this problem and I’m still not out of the clear.
I left a voicemail for Docs and am hoping to resolve this issue. I am asking for a full refund on both the mount, cost of further repair and cost of my lift ticket.

I would not support this business. Especially since when I was leaving an employee told me that Doc was a «Nazi, racist and greedy.» Apparently he was in the military during Nazi Germany or something. I represent one of his OWN employees told me this as he was helping me out to my car with my skis.

There are some very helpful and nice people who work here. I personally interacted with Denny and I found him to very cordial. I went in looking to purchase two beat-​up ski poles for a drinking game called, Polish. (If you haven’t played it look it up) I ended up not paying a dime! Thanks, Denny!1

Just moved from the Bay Area and have been snowboarding for 15+ years. I wanted to find a good «mom and pop» shop in LA and turns out that Doc’s is the last one. Denny is super helpful and clearly knows the what is going on in the world of snow sports. You will always see Doc in there too, chumming it up with whoever is in there. A great feel and a great place to get your board tuned, cleaned and prepped for the next adventure on the slopes. Don’t let this shop close and use them as much as you can!!!

best ski /​snowboard shop on the Westside… hands down. Helpful, knowledgeable, and passionate staff. all the work they have done on my board is pristine and done in a timely manner. couldn’t recommend Doc’s more. A+++++

Went here for new ski boots. Best service. They really take the time to make sure you get the right pair. Very considerate.

Recently got skis at another shop and needed bindings mounted same day for skiing the next. Called Doc’s, spoke with Doc himself and arrived a half hour later. Within an hour, got my skis mounted and found great poles for a good price, all the while hearing some amazing old school stories from Doc.
It’s no wonder they’ve been around for 30+ years, this place is the best.
If you want quality products and great service, go to Doc’s.

I wanted to say thank you (especially to Denny) for my recent and wonderful experience in your store. Not only were you able to Tune and Wax my skis the day I brought them in (this past Friday) so that I would be able to Ski this weekend, when I came into the Shop, the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Denny was my sales person and in addition to getting my Skis done while I was there (I showed up a little bit early) he fitted me with a Helmet which I love and gave me a lot of extremely helpful insight into my next Ski/​Boot/​Binding purchase.

Wow this is the best ski store experience I have ever had and a total mom and pop shop vibe which I really dig. My girlfriend came in with a pair of ski boots that are too big. Their amazing staff spent an hour with us form fitting the boots to her and adding foam pads to the liner. They went above and beyond going back and forth making sure she had the right fit. Very very cool and chill and extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Couldn’t have been better!

Wish I could give more stars.
Brought one of my snowboards in mid-​December which is stupid because December is a month long journey into the depths of madness, for a ski shop, while they try and turn a million jobs around and get people all setup for the season. The friendly-​tech at the back took a look at the repair (I put a tiny 3″ long HOLE in my rail on a rail last season that I forgot about thanks to my functional alcoholism.) and quoted me $ 75 for the whole repair plus a complete tune-​up.
That’s it? Rad. $ 75 to fix my horribly mangled board and end up with a better than new board for $ 75? Alright, alright, alright. They asked when I needed it and I said by New Years and they said no problem and put ¹²⁄₂₉ as the ready date. Well I’d actually forgotten that I needed it before Christmas, a whole week earlier than I’d told them (remember what I said about that functional alcoholism *winky face*), so I thought I was screwed. I called Doc’s and they rightly said, «Your board is still in work. We’re doing our best but we are unbelievably swamped right now, and all we can promise is the date we quoted you when you brought the board in.» I was dissapointed but it was 100% my fault.
Literally 24 HOURS LATER, I got a call from the friendly guys at Doc’s and they’d finished the board and it was ready for pickup. Amazing. Tahoe here I come! They basically saved Christmas for everyone. Now I can drink as much eggnog as I want and rest easy knowing I got my board back in time for my trip and that I’ve just found the place I can now give 100% of my snow sport business to. Thanks Doc’s! WOOOHOO! This is why you support local business because of the service like this.

A++++++ crew. I am a person who has been a skier a boarder. And know product well. This place reminds me of the way things used to be.

Doc’s is the best ski shop on the West Side by far. They know their stuff and they have a great selection.
I am a telemark skier. I bought a new pair of bindings last year and wanted to mount them on a pair of skis I already had. I stopped by four other stores, including one big chain that carries plenty of tele gear online. None of them were willing to mount the bindings as they all said they did not have the right jigs, even though I had a plastic mounting template.
The tech at Doc’s looked at the skis, the bindings and the template (something the other shops didn’t even bother with before saying ‘no’). He compared the template to the jigs he had and figured out how he could make it work. The price was about what I’d expect to pay at a shop in Mammoth or any other ski town, and he had them ready for me in three days.
I honestly can’t understand some of the other reviews here. Simple facts:
1. A good shop will always want to look at your equipment before saying they can or can’t do work on it. That’s what you should expect!
2. If you expect a small local shop to match online prices, you are asking for a bad experience. Having a good tech and a salesperson that actually knows their selection and can point you to the right gear for you is worth the extra money.

I reached out to this ski shop to get advice on upgrading my skis. I have a very old but good condition set of skis and I wanted to see if I could purchase new ones and have the old bindings transferred over.
I emailed the shop’s info address with the inquiry, model types, and picture of my skis. I just wanted to know if I was wasting my time trying to save my old bindings before driving all the way there with long ass skis in my car.
Their response:

Any general guidance would have been greatly appreciated. Instead, they punted.
My guess is that they want me to come in, so they could try to sell me completely new gear. I’ll never know, because I’m not going to patronize a store with this level of customer service.
