Essentia Mattress

I love this store! My wife and I found an ad through facebook and really wanted to test these out. We checked out Essentia and miraculously found one that we both liked, thankfully. We bought a tatami for our 5 yr old.
The sales person was so nice and understood exactly what we were looking for. She made us feel so comfortarble and she wasn’t so pushy like other sales people. She represents the company very well.
My son loves his mattress! I recommend this store. They have the best warranty and the mattresses are non-​toxic.

I was in the market for a comfortable pillow lacking harmful chemicals when I happen to pass by this shop advertising «Natural» memory foam. I went in and told the sales person I was looking for pillows and she explained the different pillows to me and let me try them out. Only one of the pillows (the classic) was actually comfortable to me.
However, like one of the other Unilocal reviewers for this store, I got the same answer to the question of how much the pillow contained unnatural chemicals (10%). I also wrote to Essentia directly asking if their pillows contained formaldehyde and I never got back a response. And looking on the web, I found that complaints had been registered with the FTC about claims Essentia has made (at least in the past) about the chemical nature of their products.
That said, the showroom was presentable and the sales person was nice, but I am definitely put off by the advertising of something being natural when it’s not pretty darn close to 100% natural. I ended up getting a Holy Lamb Organics pillow at another store in Santa Monica.

I went into this store about a month ago, after having coffee with a friend. I knew the store was there because I had been researching natural mattresses online. I was greeted by the most pleasant young woman who I later found out her name is Griselda. I was blown away by how she paid attention and understood my needs. Living in L.A. I always seem to run into rude sales people. I can honestly say she lifted my mood. Excellent products and a wonderful experience.

I love this store! John and Griselda who work there are most helpful, kind and knowledgable. Their mattresses are amazing. I already have some of their pillows, and a friend purchased a dog bed, and I am saving my pennies hoping to purchase a King mattress soon. Icing on the cake is that this store also takes great pride in being part of the Ocean Park and Santa Monica neighborhood/​community, in that they also support local artists by hosting shows for them. So far I have two friends who have purchased mattresses (for humans) as a result of being introduced to the store via the art shows.
So my vote is to support this ‘good neighbor’ store with its healthier products. Hope to see you at their next art opening.

What a wonderful spot in Santa Monica. I think the products, given the majority of other stuff available is amazing quality. I went in with a few friends and we indulged in the pillows and mattresses. they also have really nice artwork for sale so… it doubles as a place to sit and et nice organic/​natural products and look at art? sweet! the lady working that day — Griselda was especially kind and helpful. I love my mattress and other stuff i got. please dont turn your nose up at the price, these are high quality, made to last items that are transparent (go on their website to read their ethos and sustainability) also Urth café is nearby so enjoy!

Came here today. I am no newbie when it comes to eco friendly — non toxic furnishings. Do not be fooled by the use of the word «natural». This word can be very misleading. Most people who are looking for natural products are actually looking for non –toxic products, which essentia is not. Upon entering the store I was greated by a lady who did not bother to introduce herself. I jumped right in asking if their mattresses were non toxic and of course the answer was «no, they are 90% natural and 10% CHEMICALS». HMMM chemicals huh? My question was, what type of chemicals? Her response was that I could look it up online. I asked her how is it she worked there but did not know what type of chemicals were in the mattresses. The other employee said they had formaldehyde, that said I was done. Don’t waste your time here. If you are looking for a healthy mattress you won’t find one here. SCAM CENTRAL

I was down the street for a meal at Urth Café when I was walking by Essentia and noticed they are a memory foam speacialty store. I have a memory foam mattress — and it is the BEST mattress I have ever had. Though I did not come into this store for a mattress, I have been searching for smaller and off-​cut pieces of memory foam to make a barstool cushion for. The beautiful woman at the desk — her name is Griselda — was incredibly welcoming and gave a feel of the business being totally service oriented and warm towards customer relations. She in fact did find some pieces of foam for me, though that is not part of the store’s normal product availability. If you want a best experience of how business should be done, with great product and great people serving to make that product work in your life, I highly recommend both Griselda, and Essentia.

Good customer service. Very expensive. Very comfortable beds. Space was not especially clean but it was easy to view their products and nice artwork on the walls.

I can honestly say that the Essentia mattress and pillows are the best part of my home — I use any excuse to be in bed, from sleeping to working to watching TV & movies. It has made such a difference for me and I can’t imagine owning any other mattress. I sleep better not only because of the comfort of the memory foam, but because I literally and figuratively breathe easy knowing that it’s all natural.
Additionally, the people behind Essentia are so wonderful. When I visited the store I felt extremely welcome and that I could take my time experiencing the beds. The store is so bright and the design is simple — it’s all about the beds, which speak for themselves.
The customer service is also wonderful via email, the website and social media. I love that Essentia promotes healthy living from every angle — they have a lot of informative information on their website. All things considered, I am a very proud owner of Essentia products and I look forward to at least 10 comfortable, non-​toxic years with my mattress set!

We spent about 1.5 hours hanging out with Daniya and laying on the various mattresses. We finally decided on the Cal King Classic 8 since we are both side sleepers often. Can’t wait until it arrives. Daniya was super nice and an expert on healthy bedding options — a real pro and sweetheart.

What a great buying experience! We were about to buy a Tempurpedic from Living Spaces but the saleslady went into «hard sale» mode and really turned us off. Her fail led me to do some more research and the idea of an odorless and non-​toxic mattress sounded like the perfect solution.
We drove a little ways to lay on these mattress’ but fell in love with the Opus One (it’s not really called that) and ordered it right away along with some pillows. The nice salesman even gave me some samples to keep my elbows off my desk at work… no more elbow pain! I can’t wait to sleep on the OpusOne with OpusOne is my belly!
An awesome mattress, a friendly non-​pushy salesman, and free parking, what else could you ask for.
PS: Don’t tell your co-​workers where you got the elbow pads because they’ll freak out when they Google Essentia and see the price.

I purchased the Classic 8 from Daniya. Originally, I wanted a natural, organic latex mattress. I debated between Carpe Diem Korno and Essentia Classic 8 vs. Dormeuse. I ended up choosing Essentia because of the information on their website, comfort, quality, and price. Also, my partner and I couldn’t agree on the same Carpe Diem mattress when we visited H.D. Buttercup. He felt that the Korno was too soft for the medium and wasn’t comfortable when he tried the Korno firm.
In addition, I wanted a natural mattress that does not require flipping or rotating. I also felt that Essentia was an eco-​friendly choice. On whim during the Memorial Day weekend, I decided to go out to Santa Monica to try the Essentia mattresses. I cannot really describe the different feeling and textures from spring mattress to foam mattress. All I can say is that I’m extremely pleased with Essentia. I tried all the mattresses in their showroom, and debated between the Classic 8 and Dormeuse. I chose the Classic 8 over Dormeuse because I felt that the Dormeuse was a little too soft.
Anyways, my review was long overdue. Daniya is truly a gem. She even referred me over to Green Cradle, where I purchased my frame. I also left a review for that purchase as well. Daniya was courtesy, friendly, and professional individual. She went above and beyond in helping me. Daniya was kind enough to forward me to several stores that made organic bed frames. She answered all my questions. The purchase went smoothly without any complications. The bed comes in a double vacuumed sealed bag. I’m truly pleased with Essentia. Thank you Daniya! I would definitely recommend purchasing a mattress from her. I love sleeping in my new bed. Essentia has quality mattresses and trying them out is the best thing I have ever done for my sleep.

I came here for a Sustainable Works 6 week environmental seminar, hosted by Essentia.
(These seminars are held in various locations throughout west LA and Santa Monica)
So, what was totally neat about having the seminar there is that we didn’t sit on chairs. We had the experience of lounging/​laying/​relaxing on their nice squishy organic mattresses!
Of course we made constant jokes about falling asleep during the presentation, but our teacher, Samantha, kept us engaged and entertained.
Another really cool thing about their space is that the managment puts up regular art shows featuring modern and recycled artwork.
The staff, Michael and Daniya, can tell you everything you need to know about organic latex mattresses and why you should seriously consider buying one.
And last month I went back there for a Green Drinks New Years Resolution Party.
Even if you don’t currently need a mattress, stop in and check out the space. They are in a great location on Main Street with lots of boutiques and restaurants and a great neighborhood vibe.

Quality people and product. Great communication during all phases of transaction. Very personable staff. The beds are excellent; If you are reading this I am sure you know the void this product has filled.

Essentia! We love you! We had been searching everywhere for a quality, natural latex mattress here in Los Angeles… and finally we came across Essentia. Daniya and her team at Essentia went above and beyond to help find us the mattress that worked best for us – and then went even more above and beyond to assure that it was delivered in a timely and efficient manner. I would recomend this mattress company to anyone who finds quality of sleep of the upmost importance… and I think thats everyone. Thank you Essentia!

How can you not love ‘natural’ and ‘memory foam’ in the same sentence?! I am so happy that we were able to get our son the skinny 8 for his new bed. A little advice for those who want a low profile bed or who have a young child, get the bunky board from Crate and Barrel to go under the mattress. This was a great tip from the Essentia sales associate. It provides the support you need with only adding 2 inches to your mattress. If you like higher beds, which I do for myself, then the base mattress is the coolest thing since sliced bread. This thing comes folded in half and pops up when you open it up. This may make it sound flimsy and cheap but it is NOT. The base mattress is definitely quality. Too bad we are having to return it, but we had no idea how high our son’s bed would sit until we converted it the day before our Essentia shipment arrived. Luckily, we are able to return it.

I am just about the most detail-​oriented researcher out there. I research everything I am about to purchase because I want to ensure the quality, durability and reputation of the product so that I don’t waste my money and get frustrated down the road. That being said, I probably spent 2 – 3 months or so researching all the different types of mattrresses to buy, including the types of mattresses (coiled spring, memory foam, latex), the various companies and their reputations (from Sears & Foster and Sealy to some of the smaller boutique companies that specialize in «organic» mattresses), the different chemicals that are used in each type of mattress, etc. My wife and visited at least 4 different mattress stores, trying out dozens of different mattresses — lying on each of them for a full 5 minutes or so. I even investigated the different warranties that each company had and the reputation of each company at honoring their warranties without a hassle/​cost.
My discovery of Essentia mattresses was fortuitous since I discovered their website near the very end of my search, when I was about to purchase an organic mattress from a different company. The key factor that steered me toward the Essentia mattresses was the fact that I was worried about the chemicals/​toxins used in the coiled spring and memory foam mattresses — especially since my wife and I were expecting a new baby and did not want the baby exposed to the potentially dangerous chemicals. Normally I would not be so concerned, but I realized in my research that: 1) Coiled spring mattresses are not made with the same ingredients they used when I was a kid growing up — they now use much more toxic chemicals (e.g., formaldehyde) that «off-​gas» (meaning that the chemical vapors slowly are released over time), and 2) I will spend almost 33% of my life breathing in whatever chemicals are in my mattress (since my head is right next to it), so I want to ensure there are no long-​term safety effects.
Since Essentia mattresses are made of latex foam I concluded that I would be getting the best of both worlds — the safety of latex with the comfort and support of foam. My wife and I spent 1.5 hours at the Essentia store in Santa Monica trying all the different types of mattresses and found the one that met both of our needs (i.e., Classic 8, which seemed to have a mix of both support and plushness).
The mattress was delivered on-​time, however, the box-​spring came a day later than it was due. I contacted Essentia Customer Service and complained (since it caused me to miss a day of work staying at home to sign for the delivery). They offered us a free pillow (which had a cost of $ 150-​$ 250, depending on which type of pillow we chose). I would have preferred a cash discount, but the offer of a free pillow went a long way to showing me that this company cares about customer satisfaction.
Now, 3 months later I can say that my wife and I are thoroughly pleased with our mattress. I think it is very comfortable when I first lay down — which is important to me, and it stays comfortable throughout the night. Unlike other memory foam mattresses, I do not believe the mattress retains heat and «sleeps hot» although my wife (who sleeps hot herself) thinks it is «slightly» hot. We also noticed that my wife does not experience pain in her hips while sleeping anymore — which she had experienced all the time with our coiled spring mattress. All in all, I would highly recommend the Essentia mattresses.
