Hertz Rent A Car

They didn’t have any cars when I got there to pick one up after reserving it a couple days before, but they made it right by taking us to a nearby Hertz to get one. I just recommend either get there early, or make sure you are not in too much of a hurry.

Disappointing and not providing according to booking online. Tried to sell a higher range, more insurance to the extent of hassling. Very unpleasant experience.

Very hit and miss, great service from a gentleman at lowes in Hollywood, and also fabulous service from a young guy at the pink flamingo. The Santa Monica office is the worst, the car wasn’t ready and then they had to clean it, this made a delay of over an hour and a half.

I would say 2.5 stars. A lady was very quick and helpful BUT a man with glasses!!!
I booked thru Web site and got great deal:) I checked in and he goes… I have a few cars to choose from. so we went to back side and I picked the one i liked. And he goes $ 300 + dollars… i thought that was my option to choose and he said its upgrade so and so. He should have mentioned at the counter when i checked in! WASTED MY TIME AND HIS TIME AND EVERYONE ELSE BEHIND ME!!! May be my fault not to ask him, but hey… I understand that he gets commission from upgrade but has to explain before you mention about a few cars to choose from!

Hertz is usually too underwhelming for words, but my mechanic needed to keep my car a few days and has an arrangement with them. So OK, and they arrived promptly to pick me up from the mechanic.
When we get there, there’s a guy in back washing a fairly clean car. I guess Hertz didn’t get the message that the rest of California got about this drought thing, and we’re not washing cars unless the car is smeared with mud and seriously begging to be washed?
I go inside, and there are two people ahead of me. One guy is saying to the clerk that he was pulled over driving the car he’s now returning, because the registration had expired. Yes, Hertz not only didn’t keep up the registration on their rental fleet, but rented the car anyway. Can you say legal liability, boys and girls? Then the clerk — the only one in sight — turns to the other guy and tells him, we don’t have a big inventory right now in the size you want, but if you can wait a few minutes, you can have the car that this guy just brought back. Ummmmm, that would be the one with the expired tags??? Seriously??? (And what both guys said isn’t repeatable here.)
It’s finally my turn, and what they have available for me is the car that the guy was washing. (Yes, I checked its registration tags.) He didn’t actually DRY the car, so now I’m driving a shiny clean car with huge water spots everywhere. I had to pull into a gas station and squeegee the windshield and every window so I could actually see.
And finally, when I return it with three-​quarters of a tank of gas, a new idiot tries to tell me that I received it with a full tank. I pull out my rental paperwork and it says I received it with ⁶⁄₈ tank. Idiot tries very hard to convince me that ⁶⁄₈ is a full tank. He was defeated only when I suggested that he call the corporate office for advice.
Now I remember why I think Hertz is usually underwhelming. I’m going somewhere else next time.

I got a 20 day insurance rental here. The line to pick up the rental was pretty long as this location is extremely popular. They gave me a slight upgrade to a compact car Nissan Sentra. The car was ok but not as clean and well maintained as other rentals I’ve received from LAX. When I pointed out to the representative that the car’s vent unit had a very foul smell, he said it was normal and just the «new» car smell. It definitely was not a new car smell but it wasn’t a dealbreaker.

Brice and Hooman were awesome. I booked at 7:30am pick up for a car and requested a pick up to their office. Hooman was prompt. Both of them are super friendly and make you feel welcomed and a priority customer. Rented a car for my bachelorette weekend. Brice was knowledgeable of his fleet and helped provide the best experience possible. Thank you and yes, will recommend others to rent from this place as well as return for my rental needs.

Just returned from a week long vacation in Santa Monica and rented a car from this location. They were extremely helpful and accommodating, especially when running late to return the vehicle. They are only open until 2pm on Saturday but waited an extra 10 min for me to get there.

. Was a lil skeptical after reading some of the posts here. I needed a rental for 10 days. It didn’t really take to long in line and was helped out by Kimberly. She was friendly, courteous and efficient in the process. I had to return a day early, that was no problem and was helped out.

One word: SUCK
Two Words: SUPER SUCK

They will CHEAT on you, HIDE some nessesary information from you for the rental and charge you WAY MORE than what they tell you when you are about to rent the car. I rented a car for 1 day and 2 hours and they charge me $ 173.11.
I made a confirmation online with a black Nissan Maxima, and they said they don’t have it right now. I didn’t have much more choice back then and so I just got a car that parked outside the store. I am fine with that but it is just the start of Nightmares.
They gave me the wrong information and told me to return the car before the close at 1.00PM. But actually, I need to return it at 10.30AM so I don’t get to pay extra late fee.
I made a phone call to them and asked whether I can return the car to another location. The respond was «yeah yeah, return it anywhere you want». But what he didn’t tell me is there will be an intercity fee of $ 40.00. They hide the fact in purpose so they can charge me rocket high price. What a CONSCIENCELESS company?
I will NEVER EVER rent a single car from them

Very confused office. On check out, I said if I bought the tank full of gas then, even if I brought it back partly full, I had to pay the entire tank worth. I said this to a woman. A man jumped in and explained it was prorated. I bought the tank. DON’T DO THIS. Of course it was not prorated!!! Mixed up with something else, I was told.
I had the car for a week and needed more time. So two days before it was scheduled to be returned I called in. Spoke to someone, was given a rate. Hung up. The day I was supposed to return it I called for clarification of the rate and was told it was good I had called as the car would have been over due and there was no record I had called in before.

I called ahead to say I was running 15 min. late (was returning a car before getting my fixed one across the street – had set an appointment earlier) and Bryce (Brian???) stopped me mid-​sentence to tell me not to rush, they’d be there until I arrived. Nearly burst into tears (long day).
I arrived on-​time, late, and the process of returning the car could not have been easier. The other employees at the store were extremely extremely personable and friendly and nice. Not to mention helpful. They made everything a breeze and I was in and out in less than 10 minutes.
These people deserve a raise they turned my night all the way around. I left completely taken care of.

PLEASE NOTE: This branch does NOT do pick-​ups even though they advertise that they do.
I have to agree with the reviewer who says CLOSE THE BRANCH! AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. I would give them zero stars if I could.
If you want NASTY service, ZERO or NO cars, RUDE employees and a HORRIBLE experience then come to this branch.
I had a reservation. I called for a pick-​up and was told they do NOT do pick-​ups. As a Gold member, I am especially peeved but luckily have a guy who can drop me off.
A very short gentleman in a red t-​shirt with tan skin tells me I do not have a reservation and they do not have cars. He said it just like that — very RUDE & nasty. I do not know his name since he would not give it to me. I told him that I did and searched for it on my tablet. He said he would not service me and just left. I showed the reservation to another employee and it turns out I DO have a reservation. The very short guy typed my name wrong. I was then told to wait again (approximately 20+ minutes) at this point. They said they did not have a car like I reserved and I would have to wait. They did NOT give an apology.
I just left and went to another rental car place. I will also be giving up my Herz Gold membership

I picked up a car on Monday morning after my local dealer had to keep my (new) car for a week. This store has an arrangement with dealers, so it’s a cash cow.
After waiting for customers to be helped, about 20 minutes, it was my turn. The process took much longer than I normally experience when renting cars; which is often (for business), but with National.
I pre-​paid for fuel and was told to bring it back empty if I wanted; however the car only had ¹⁄₈ tank in it. Not sure what I paid $ 60+ for… I had to add gas a day later (V8)!
I got a bright blue Mustang convertible. Whatever, it’s free.
Windows and inside was not clean; they just «washed it.» That means they hose it down and deliver it, wet.
Cut to Friday, my car is not ready and this rental is due back. I call and speak to Andy; nice guy, very friendly and helpful. I explain that I need a different car as I would be driving three (plus me) adults out of town for the weekend and a convertible wouldn’t do.
15 minutes later, I was back at Hertz and after several minutes, and I think a few words exchanged, not with Andy, I got a 2012 Mitsubishi Gallant with 55,000+ miles, dirty and «washed.» If you recently rented this, you left your Stater Bros. liquor receipt (from Buena Park) and some food wrappers.
I THINK this car has power steering but I couldn’t tell ya. But it has a CD player and I’m sure it’s been hotboxed.
Not a modern car, but I can’t be too picky I guess. I was told «this is all we’ve got.» Which is total crap… it’s what they’ve got when they aren’t making much off it.
This store needs to work on their customer service; some are friendly, some are not at all personable.
If you’re renting here because you have to (like me), be prepared. If you’re renting here to save money from not renting at an airport… spend the cash and inspect your rental choices. If you’re renting here because it’s easy to get to, be prepared as well.
I gave the review one star because Andy was a nice guy willing to help.

PS: I called to speak to a manager; «what for?» I never got to and nor was I asked if I wanted a call back; if a Manager wants to respond to this review… please make it personal to me, not a boilerplate response.

This is my 3^rd time renting cars from this location, I HAVE TO review them and let everybody knows how bad their services are.
I am a Hertz reward member, and this location is one block away from my office, but, it turns out that the convenient location is the ONLY benefits I got from renting cars from them.
Every time I get a car from this location, its never the one I booked online, and more important, the car is always dirty, i mean dirty from inside to outside, they do wash it before turning handing it over to you, but it was like somebody just pour a bottle of water to the car, and one time I had to clear the mirror by myself cause it was too dirty to see it through. I’ve rented cars from all kinds of companies, never experienced bad services like this.
And their staff are always cold, impolite, don’t even look at you during the entire booking and returning process, no thank you, no goodbye, and always trying to charge me more for late return, or asking me to buy their gas.
So disappointed, other Hertz locations are not like this.

Dishonest as they come. I reserved a SUV and they tried to give me a crap sedan. I would never use this place.
They are crooks.

Reading the Unilocal reviews before trying out this Hertz location had prepared me for the ineptitude and lack of professionalism I experienced here. But I’m still shaking my head.
I was looking for a rental car place within walking distance of my apartment in Santa Monica, so that I didn’t have to futz with calling a cab, etc. (and I didn’t trust the pick-​up service). Being only 5 blocks away, this one fit the bill.
The Hertz website allowed me to make a 6 pm appointment on a Friday to pick up the car. But then I noticed that this location CLOSES at 6 pm. (My opinion is that the website should prevent you from selecting a pick-​up time that coincides with the closing time… it’s just logical). So I moved the pick-​up time to 5:30.
Turns out, that was a good thing. When I arrived, only one other customer was being helped, but it still took at least ten minutes for one of the two douchey Hertz dudes (the Thrifty woman wouldn’t help me) to acknowledge me or offer to check me in. This, in spite my approaching the counter and peering behind it, wondering why one of the Hertz guys was talking to his girlfriend on the phone instead of assisting me.
Even when I was finally acknowledged, it took the counter dude at least 20 minutes to process me. First, he said «you don’t have a reservation, right?» and looked confused when I responded «actually, yes… I do.» Then this happened:
Him: «You are dropping the car off at 1:30 pm next Monday, right?»
Me: «You have my reservation info in your hand. Clearly, it shows an 8:30 am drop-​off.»
Him: «Oh. Um, let me figure this out.»
It turns out that despite having already asked for my driver’s license and credit card (so could easily confirm who I was), he was accessing the wrong system, through which he was looking at the prior customer’s reservation. Now he asked for my ID/​card again, and started from the very beginning. Made me feel REAAALY confident that Hertz was taking good care of me!
Even once the process was finally complete — and I had been charged a steep, nearly $ 300 «deposit» (on a $ 166 reservation) — it took another 20 minutes for the same guy to appear with my car. He pulled it to the side of Santa Monica Blvd., asking me to inspect the car for dings, apparently uncaring that I’d have to step into oncoming traffic on the driver’s side to do so.
This seemed super sketchy and weird. Don’t they have a parking lot or something where they can offer their customers the right to inspect a car without risking their safety?
As I finally got in my car 45 minutes after I’d arrived (!!), I noticed that the gas tank was only ⁵⁄₈ full. Weird.
Long story short: I appreciate the convenience of the location, but otherwise would look for another rental car option.

Courteous, expedient service, relatively clean, non-​smoking, gassed-​up car BUT weekend hours (Saturday: 10:00 AM — 2:00 PM, Sunday? I forget.) are incompatible with Santa Monica Volvo’s service department’s.
Absolutely NO returned cars accepted afterhours as per my Hertz advisor who failed to give me his name or card.
Fortunately, when receiving Friday’s repair update, I mentioned how their hours of operation don’t coincide and was assured I could leave Hertz’s car at Volvo and they’d return it for me.
After I hung up with Volvo, concerns over the final receipt, etc. surfaced but point is moot because as of today, Saturday, my ride won’t be ready until Monday.
Another thing my Hertz guy failed to do was tell me that because I bought the affordable $ 9 per day, bumper-​to-​bumper, insurance coverage (could bring the car back totaled and walk away no worries) there was no need to inspect the vehicle prior to leaving the lot.
A blank, three-​part, inspection form was sitting on the dash when I took possession. Odd I thought but with others waiting to exit, I drove around the block, parked, circled the car and took pictures (was rental scammed before) of what can only be described as multiple «road rash» assaults
then returned.
Another nameless Hertz guy (hm…), informed me inspection wasn’t necessary due to the coverage I purchased but did it anyway just to get me off his back and the lot.
Rental contract is suitable for your attorney to decipher. Hours of operation for this location are nowhere to be found on the contract jacket/​envelope, just roadside assistance phone contacts (no local number) and more legalese!
If Volvo wasn’t picking up the tab (minus the insurance and refueling), I’d use this location only in the event of an emergency!

I actually got really good service here last week when my car was recalled & the part was backordered. Ugh.
Had to leave my car at the dealer for days because it wasn’t safe to drive.
I had a Hertz rental for just one day, until the dealer provided a loaner.
My Hertz helper guy was Bryce, and he was beyond accommodating. I was in the mood from hell when I arrived at Hertz, lol. And I was very picky about the car I’d be driving. He finally found a suitable car for me, and did more… long story.
In a nutshell: I left Hertz in a far better frame of mind than when I got there, and that says it all.
My only complaint: the soda machine in the Hertz waiting room.
There’s a big sign on the machine warning that the soda will likely spray in your face if you don’t let it rest a couple minutes before opening.
I didn’t read the sign.
The good news is that I opened the Coke before I got into the rental car.
Yeah it was one of those days. Everything’s better now.
