Karen Liu, DC, LAc

After having been to many acupuncturists I decided to give Karen a try. I’m always skeptical of eastern medicine because a lot of the senior (Korean) acupuncturists I’ve been to seem a little skeptical about their practices and promise a lot. Almost like scamming wizards :) A lot of bark and no bite.
In that respect, talking to Karen about my issues was very comfortable and non-​judging. She didn’t oversell which I really appreciate in any practice. Her prices are affordable for all the care she does and her bedside manner was very professional.
After my visit with her, physically I felt a lot more energized but calm. Mentally, she helped me really consider and practice everyday lifestyle shifts for better living!

Was referred to Karen by a friend for an issue I was having with my wrist. I was skeptical mostly because I’d never had acupuncture and figured that if it was that effective in relieving pain, more people I know would swear by it.
I must say it was an amazing experience. Right off the bat before the first needle went in, Dr. K diagnosed issues I was having without me even mentioning them. She also explained the purpose of each needle. Her bedside manner is appropriately honest and kind.
After two sessions my wrist wasn’t back to normal, but rather I gained more range of motion and it was pain free. :)
Overall, I’ve found Dr. Karen to be very knowledgeable, effective and you’re in for a good conversation while you’re on her table.

Karen Liu is SO awesome! She incredibly thorough and GENUINELY wants to make her patients better! She’s also one of those docs who keeps learning and is up to date with the latest research which is so great! She’s truly dedicated to her profession! It’s so refreshing :)

Dr. Karen Liu is awesome– she takes her time to figure out all your discomforts and injuries and goes the extra mile to make sure everything gets fixed. Whether you’re a competitive athlete or just an average joe like I am, I highly recommend getting your spine checked every once in a while (even if you’re not experiencing any significant discomfort).

Dr. Karen Liu is the most amazing lady ever. She has fixed a problem I had on my leg when many doctors tried to give me steroids, pills and nothing worked for me. Most doctors at the time had given up and told me that it will never be possible to have a norma leg. I guess I should start from the beginning about what had happened to my leg. A few summers ago I went into what my doctors said was contaminated water. After being in that water for around 20 minutes I started to grow some type of greenish, whitish, red rash that was permanently on my leg everyday from that incident.
I went to a few doctors and after showing some progress but not enough to the effect they told me that I would have this on my leg for my entire life… Being a girl and wearing shorts all the time I really felt horrible. My self esteem was taking a toll and I didn’t know what to do.
My last option was Dr. Karen Liu she looked at my leg and said it will be gone after a few treatments of acupuncture. I seriously wasn’t sure but I was willing to give her a try. After doing about 5 intensive treatments it was seriously gone. You can’t even tell that I had something on my leg that was literally there for years.
It has made me such a happier person and I am seriously not afraid of wearing shorts, a bikini or anything that will show off my leg. This was a life changer for me. I know this might seem like a small issue but having getting told by many doctors that you will have to live with this your entire life and than not having to is awesome.
If you are looking for her office in the wonderful city of Santa Monica I would say the building is pretty easy to find and parking depends on the time of day sometimes it could be hard but they do have a parking lot. Also after my visits I would just eat lunch in Santa Monica or go on a small shopping spree.

I don’t believe in acupuncture, NOT until I met Dr. Liu. I’ve had many treatments before from many different doctors and none of them have made a difference. Dr. Liu has a natural gift for medicine.
I first met Dr. Liu at the CrossFit Games, a competition that requires a lot of strength and skills. I went into competition with a herniated disc that I thought would hold up through the weekend. Unfortunately, it acted up and I was in excruciating pain. One of the coordinators recommended acupuncture, and as a last resort to quickly solve my problem I let Dr. Liu treat me. Skeptical and apprehensive, I was pain free in under 20 minutes. Because I was confident in her work, I let her treat my other problems (elbow and shoulder). I was a mess that weekend and Dr. Liu was a blessing.
As a competitive athlete, I see Dr. Liu to maintain my and recover my body from training. I would recommend anyone to see her for any type of health issue: back pain, trouble sleeping, intestinal issues, muscle cramps, inflammation, etc. give it a few visits. I’m confident to say that you’ll feel significantly better from the first visit.
