LA West Elite Event: Breakfast For Dinner @ OP Cafe

I appreciate how attentive and kind the entire staff was last night!
From the moment I sat down, I felt taken care of from drink to food (to Unilocal memorabilia!)
My drink of choice was the Sangria, which I still can’t tell if it did or didn’t have a kick to it. But it was tasty and made with love :)
The best dish had to be the pancakes — nice and buttery, with a hint of toasty/​crunchy-​ness, just the way I like it. I hoped that the French toast would have blown me off of my feet, so I could brag to the bf, but it didn’t. The pancakes far surpassed any dish.
The hash browns/​potatoes didn’t impress me and was my least favorite dish.
I love eggs benedict, biscuits and gravy, and bacon in general. Don’t get me wrong, all of them tasted great, but I’ve had much better dishes at other locations. The eggs benedict were missing a little bit of flavor and kick. The biscuits and gravy didn’t shock me and my bacon was too burnt tasting.
All in all, it was good food, but not every meal is meant to leave is screaming for more… all it can do is try.
It was nice of them to have dessert, but I would have left satisfied even without it!

My first elite event and it was AWESOME.
Breakfast/​Brunch are basically the BEST MEALS EVER. And so why not have it for dinner?!
The potatoes and bacon may have been a bit burned but everything else was superb. I definitely loved the sangria which btw tasted like juice so keep a watch out on how much you drink! lol
After starting off with the light stuff (fresh cut fruits and biscuits covered with gravy) the plates started coming and coming and coming… I felt like I was eating nonstop. It was. AMAZING. My FAV was the eggs benedict. Soft and perfectly topped together. Can’t wait to go back to get some more MMMMM. My second best would be a tie between the pancakes and the french toast. Both nicely cooked to soft and toasty perfection with a sprinkle of fruits on top.
To top it off, the service was phenomenal. The servers were definitely on top of everything! Kept our drinks full, kept the plates coming and cleared out our used plates with new ones.

I love breakfast. I mean, really, I eat breakfast for breakfast, and lunch, and dinner. So when I heard Brittany B. had thrown together an Elite bash — with breakfast for dinner, and we were allowed to wear PAJAMAS, I about died. But I managed to stay alive cause I really wanted that free meal and to check out the OP Café. What a fun way to initiate myself into LA West’s elite events!
You know how at every Elite event there’s that one table that’s just having way too much fun? They’re loud and obnoxious and enjoying every second of it? I was definitely sitting at that table at this event, but it was awesome! It felt good to be a little bad. I met some really cool pajama clad (and non-​pajama clad rebels) who shared all kinds of cool stories and foodie tips. That’s exactly what being Unilocal Elite is about!
The food here was no joke. I came expecting a few bites of a few dishes. They literally served us a smörgåsbord of food. The plates just kept coming! My favorites were the Eggs Benedict (perfectly runny eggs, creamy hollandaise sauce, tender ham, crispy English muffins, and tart sour cream), the bacon (perfectly crispy!), and the pancakes topped with berries (perfect thickness, great syrup, and incredibly fresh berries). We were also delighted to find that they had prepared for us fresh mimosas and had a ton of beers for us to sample as well.
The waiters here were genuine and so sweet. They kept our glasses topped off, our plates filled, refilled, and then refilled AGAIN, and managed to do it all with a smile. The manager here was super grateful to have us there and continued to boost our egos with a showering of compliments to us Unilocalers. Such a fun night, filled with great food, friends, and a fun new spot to frequent. Thanks Brittany B. and OP Café!

My first Unilocal Elite Event in a onesie… I have to admit I am wary. In stealth mode, I drive by OP Café. Yes! I am relieved to see a girl outside in her red onesie. I find a parking space, put on my onesie (over my clothes just in case!) and skip down to the café. I pull open the door… and BAM!
What do I behold? Unilocalers in onesies, Unilocalers in jammies, Unilocalers in sweats, Unilocalers in deep conversations about wonderful platters of fresh seasonal fruit, biscuits and gravy, crispy potatoes and thick bacon strips perfectly cooked. I was seated at the best table I could ask for with Amanda, Andrea, and Jody. They made this newbie feel right at home.
I was just in time to carbo load. Luscious pancakes and thick French Toast laced with abundant berries, eggs benedict overflowing with Hollandaise, and a dessert platter with petite yet totally decadent desserts. Dessert for the dessert? Guacamole and chips (my favorite dish of all!).
Ocean Park Café prices are extremely reasonable and the staff outstanding. Thank you Brittany and OP for your generosity and fun-​loving style.
I’ll be back… albeit in regular clothes!

Great event! Great restaurant! The staff was wonderful and very accommodating. The beer selection was diverse and sophisticated as were the mimosas and sangrias.
The food was both appetizing and plentiful. The presentation was beautiful and it tasted as good as it looked.
I am IN LOVE with the guacamole which was fresh and delicious! If your looking for an appetizer or something on top of your breakfast burrito, this is the right choice.
I’m pretty sure you can’t go wrong with this menu. Great choice all the way.

Hello OP Café!
Driving at night and trying to find this place for the first time takes a bit of squinting and some slowing down to 20mph. I kept hoping that somebody would PLEASE post a tip on where to park but alas, I had to figure it out by my lonesome (though I really should have figured to go to the actual OP café link) and got a first to tip (yay!)
+ Parking: on the streets. Free! Free is good!
+ Theme: breakfast themed! Such a great idea — there were some really cute pajamas and onsies walking around. A chick even had curlers! Awesome!
+ Egg benedict: hands down my favorite dish of the evening — fantastic hollandaise sauce and perfect poached eggs!
+ Sangria! I liked it — although it made the mimosas seem really bitter. And the manager Ricky offered me a sangria apple and it made me very very happy!
+ The staff was absolutely wonderful — they were so cheerful and attentive and did not seem harassed at all when we made multiple requests. They also kept our glasses full and plates clean, and were just super great hosts!
+ Pancakes were my second favorite of the evening; like everyone said, the crispiness was awesome
+ Everybody was super duper full before dessert even came out but we couldn’t stop eating!
I actually have solid plans to come here for breakfast this weekend to get me some of those egg benedicts! Much thanks goes to Brittany and the staff for putting on this 5 star event! Cheers!

Thanks to Unilocal,Brittany, and Ricky and the OP Café staff for redefining what breakfast is and what dinner is on a very entertaining school night.
From typical breakfast fare to BACON to a middle course of guacamole to «GET THIS FRUIT OUT OF HERE» and whatever the Ricky’s special is, The OP Café had a little bit of everything. Or perhaps, more accurately a lot of everything.
I have to say I was very happy to hear from Ricky the manager and his story regarding Unilocal and the café – thought that was very interesting.
I also appreciated the pajamas part of it even without wearing one (a fact my own table did an admirable job of reminding me) – there’s always next time. In lieu of pajamas, I opted to adorn myself in as much Unilocal swag as was available at the table and proceeded on the impromptu Unilocal crawl that followed looking something like a disheveled boy scout checking in at all sorts of spots in Santa Monica after dark.
So no Pikachu costume, but still a great night all around.

It is not often that I go to restaurant, and then want to return the very next morning. That is how I felt after eating at the OP Café for Unilocal’s Breakfast for Dinner event. The food was so good, and there was plenty of it. My favorite were the pancakes. They were prepared exactly how I like them, with a soft inside and crispy edges. Everything else was good too, and I can easily see the OP Café being a new ‘go to’ spot for me. To top off the excellent food, their sangria made my night! I loved it!

Growing up, breakfast for dinner was few and far between… but you bet your pj bottoms they were my favorite dinners of all! I can smell it now…
Dinner with bacon? Or bacon FOR dinner? C’mon, how could it not?
Anyways, enough with the questions and onto how amazing this opportunity was! Thanks Brittany B! Emi told me to look out for your foodie driven events, so like a hawk, I watched the elite page for this!
Welp, early bird gets the worm! Or Deliciously fluffy flap jacks with the *CRISPIEST* edges possible?! I think that griddle had more butter slathered on it than Paula Deen in a… okay, I won’t go there. But still! Those were seriously the cat’s pajamas!
The crispy bacon is a no brainer. So yums! I’m glad they know how to cook bacon and use the right cut to achieve maximum crunch without skimping on length.
Eggs Benny! Oh me oh my! These were super duper good! I wish they were a little more savory, but then I’d probably raise my cholesterol. They had a great homemade hollandaise sauce and wow. Just fab.
The french toast was thick and delicious! The cinnamon in french toast always sends me over the top. I love how huge the slices of toast were and the yummy fruit added great spikes of tartness.
The Guac, although misplaced, was VERY good. I would definitely have that again. I LOVE AVOCADO!
The petit fors dessert plates that came rolling out after may have been the syrup on my hotcakes, but I was seriously too full to try even one bite!
And to wash it all down? MIMOSAS! How jummy. And perfect. and can I have another in this fabulous square mimosa plastic glass?
The Sangria was a more sad-​gria, but I totally understand! They’re not a spanish bar… they serve brekkie and they did so with such poise and presentation that I have nothing to complain about.
Café OP, get ready for a flood of new regulars! You’s got some yummy stuffs!
The servers were very attentive and nice enough to switch out our plates and silverware multiple times throughout the service, although I thought it unnecessary.
Props to yall. Oh and this event was damn awesome because I got to make new LA friends, Kiyomi (Doreen) M, Shirls K, and Michael F. I’m very much happy to be here!

Breakfast is my faaaavorite. AND I get to wear unattractive, comfy clothes? AND I get to get drunk? AND I get to walk there? Thanks for including me, Brittany!
I live down the street and walked over in my thermal set, pink fuzzy robe, and giraffe slippers (all of which my mother bought for me, I might add… does anyone buy shit like that for themselves?) I fortunately didn’t run into anyone I know, signed in, and snagged a table with the vivacious group of Vicky G, Nicole A, Charles D, and Crystal C. We were immediately offered beers, mimosas, or sangria. The sangria was a little weak, but I enjoyed the mimosas all night long.
We were served family-​style portions of bacon, fresh fruit, Eggs Benedict, and the most amazing pancakes and French toast. The pancakes smelled sooo good that some people at my table grabbed them with their hands as soon as the plate was set on the table (I won’t name any names) and did not disappoint with their fluffiness and perfect warm spice. The French toast was my other favorite. I heard there was a hash, but I think they missed our table… not that we had any room for another dish, anyway. There was dessert, too! We definitely left tipsy and stuffed.
The super nice owner spoke with us, we were all given certificates the next day for a free entrée and drinks, and a lucky winner got a free breakfast for 2 for uploading the best photo. We were treated like such royalty. And the staff were rockstars for handling a crowd like that so well and so nicely.

What a PERFECT evening out for my first Unilocal Elite event! Fun «breakfast for dinner» theme, cozy venue, amazing service, lots and lots of good food, and a table full of friendly folks to share it with. Thanks to Brittany B. for organizing and OP Café manager Ricky and his staff for hosting us.
I loved that we got to try a ton of different dishes, even if it is going to make it harder for me to decide on one from now on when I go in. Standouts for me were the home fries (just the right texture, mushy with lots of crunchy bits), the pancakes (loved the crispy edges!), and the french toast (made with huge thick slices of toast perfect for sopping up crazy amounts of syrup). I also can’t wait to go back and give the eggs benedict another try.

Came here for a Unilocal event! My favorites here were the pancakes — crispy on the edges/​outside and so soft on the inside. Maple syrup was lightly sweet and fresh fruit on top, just added to the sweetness. Second fave were the eggs benedict! And the french toast was just as good as the pancakes, with very little egg and just a dash of cinnamon. Also loved the bacon! BAAAACON!!! Super helpful, friendly, and HAPPY staff/​servers! Cute little, cozy, café with tables and a counter. Can’t wait to come back again!

Super excited that I finally made it to my first Unilocal Elite event with such an awesome theme. The event was hosted at OP café on Ocean Park blvd in Santa Monica. Since this place is a breakfast/​lunch place we had the opportunity to have breakfast for dinner (which btw was ALWAYS my fav meal growing up). I always felt like I was breaking the rules by eating breakfast for dinner!
First and foremost a special shout out goes to Brittany B, who made me feel super welcome at my first event. Come on, it’s totally scary walking into a place where you don’t know a soul! First day of school flash back. The event was awesome, the swag rocked (now I can play go fish and war with my Unilocal playing cards!). The manager Ricky and his staff were AWESOME. They were so on top of things and kept the night flowing smoothly. That alone will bring me back. I’m a sucker for great service.
The food was literally flooding out of the kitchen, you name a breakfast food chances are we ate it. Jealous?! I would be :) Pancakes, Thick French Toast both with fresh berries, Eggs Benny, Potatoes, Salad, Biscuits with Gravy, even desert. Coffee, Mimosas and Sangria were the beverage of choice!
Can’t wait to come back with friends and eat more great food from OP Café!

I had an AHmazing time at this Elite event! I kinda like when you can’t bring +1’s because it forces you to make friends with other Unilocalers!
They started us off right with some mimosas and fruit. Then out came dish after dish of yummy breakfast goodness. biscuits and gravy, pancakes, french toast, BACON, home fries, eggs benedict and even chips and guac! My favs were the french toast, bacon and eggs benedict… and just when we thought it was a wrap they finished us off with an assortment of mini desserts. I left OP Café very full and satisfied.
I will def. be back to visit this cute little breakfast joint!

I love how there was a theme! That makes it fun. Even better when the theme is something comfy! Why yes, I would like to go everywhere in my robe and Uggs, thank you for giving me an excuse to!
(Side note: I was super sadsies because someone was gonna let me borrow their SPACESHIP onesie, and then they couldn’t find it. Bummer! Ha.)
The restaurant was very cozy and warm. There were lots of people, but it wasn’t too noisy or packed, I was comfortable.
Oh man, the food kept coming and coming! I kept eating, thinking that it would be the end, but then they would bring out more! I’m vegan and had tons of food to eat– I had the big salad, chips and guacamole, hash browns, a big fruit plate, and granola with soy milk, not to mention coffee, sangria, and a mimosa! My favorite was definitely the house-​made granola!
This was so fun! Who doesn’t like breakfast for dinner? I tell you what, I would be down to have another breakfast for dinner event in the future!
As always, love the Unilocal swag. Everything was so well-​organized. I love how everything is served family style. Great place to meet new people and come together with fellow Unilocalers.

The staff including the manager at OP café are young (everyone is under 30 yo), friendly and attentive! The chef did a great job on the crispy bacon strips, the fluffy with crispy edge pancakes topped with berries and the yummy gooey eggs benedict. I also enjoyed the homemade guacamole and the potatoes. Will be back for my favorites!
Parking: There are meter parking available and free parking available at the lot west of 32 st and north of Ocean Park blvd.

Breakfast for dinner?! In pajamas? It really doesn’t get any better than that.
The food here is solid. My favorites of the night were the potatoes, deliciously perfect fluffy pancakes topped with yummy fruit, thick French toast topped with MORE yummy fruit and the guacamole! The egg on the eggs benny was done perfect as well. I was looking forward to trying the breakfast burrito but I’ll just have to come back for that :) and plus I was stuffed BEYOND belief. Thank God we came in pajamas. There’s no way my regular pants would’ve been ready for this.

Brittany B. organized another wonderful Unilocal event for LA West. This was my first Unilocal event as an Elite Unilocaler, and it was a blast! I must have driven past The OP Café almost 100 times without noticing it, and I’m really glad I was able to discover this place through Unilocal.
According to the manager, they recently hired all new staff. I can’t speak to the prior staff, but this new group is incredibly helpful. They were friendly, and they were really on top of their service, from the fruit plates all the way through the dessert (and many courses in between). The manager took some time during the event to tell us how important Unilocal has been to the success of their business and how much he really appreciates and listens to comments and feedback. I thought that was really great. An interesting fact about this place is that the owner also owns Westside Rentals.
As for the venue, it’s super quaint and has designated parking behind the Ocean Park Hotel on 32^nd Street. It probably seats 40 – 50 people max, so it’s really cozy. We got a lot of personal attention from the staff. They told us about each of the dishes — biscuits and gravy, home fries, berry pancakes, guacamole and chips (which, for breakfast, was a little random), eggs benedict, berry french toast, and a plate full of desserts. We also had the option of mimosas or beer. I opted for mimosas, which were nice and bubbly. The others at my table noted the interesting beer selection, including a 20oz Czech beer which they really enjoyed.
As usual, there was lots of Unilocal swag decorating the venue. We had everything from sunglasses to playing cards and lip balm available to us to advertise what a cool group we’re in. If that wasn’t enough, we all wore pajamas to the event! It was, after all, breakfast for dinner. Brittany B. wore some pretty sweet longjohns, and there were several folks with really cool looking onesies on! Someone came in rollers. People wore fuzzy slippers. It was pretty awesome.

Brittany suggested we wear a pajama «onesie», but when I showed up in jeans and a shirt I was asked a number of times «Where are your pajamas?» My answer? «If I showed up in my ‘pajamas’ I’d get arrested!» LOL
Once they opened the door, we walk in and see:

OMG, how could I miss this? How did I NOT get a photo of the bacon or house made granola also offered!!! Oh well. Both were very good but the granola was fantastic!
Lastly a variety of small dessert options too!
What a fun event! Many came wearing their pajamas and a few took that extra step with the details.
It got a bit loud due to all the conversational chatter, but this made sure no one got too comfy in their jammies and dozed off. LOL
Thank you Brittany and The OP Café for a very fun and VERY tasty evening! We cannot forget the OP Café staff, they bent over backwards for even the smallest request, they were absolutely AWESOME! THANK YOU!
