This park gets the job done. The ground is made of wood like chips. There’s shovels to pick up the waste. Moderate sized park in the middle of Main Street. Parking can be tough, mostly metered. Not my first choice for a park but I’m sure it’s wonderful for the neighborhood.

We take our dogs here several times a week and enjoy it just fine. They have several friends that they consistently play with while we chat with the people. It’s not huge but that’s also fine with us. We’ve taken the obedience classes here as well that are offered through the city — great deal for the money. We’ve never seen a dog fight here and have been coming regularly for quite some time so I’m not sure what that other review was about.

Ehhhh. This is less dog park and more dirt square for your dog to get filthy in. It’s basically a dust bowl with wood chips and buried dog poop. It’s probably good if you have a small dog who just wants to sniff around or have a little romp with other small dogs. But if you have a larger dog who truly needs some space to stretch his legs, look elsewhere. Most of the people here own small dogs and are frightened of bigger dogs or look at you like you are in their space if you come in with a larger dog(my dog is 50 lbs but that seems to exceed the limits at this park). And so instead I leave feeling my pup was discriminated against, we both need baths, and I’ve inevitably stepped in a buried sh** or three. Good times!

Seeing that the previous reviews are a bit outdated, I will add my two cents. The park is not particularly big but honestly, its a good size for any dog to get out to play and exercise without being limited on a leash. It’s all they ask for, trust me! I have taken my dogs there a few times and have yet to witness any dog fights. As for unlicensed dogs, yes, I have noticed some are not licensed(at least, not licensed in SM). Both my dogs are licensed in Santa Monica, however, personally I do not understand why that should bother another dog owner if the dog is not licensed. It’s not the dogs fault their owner didn’t have them licensed, they should still be able to get to a dog park and have some fun. Santa Monica is actually quite strict in animal patrols. I have not seen any animal control at the dog park, however, if you bring your dog to a park that isn’t a dog park it is best you have them licensed, and never unleashed. I noticed the pictures posted for the park was back in 2008, since then they have added three more trees for more shade. There is trash bin on 3 corners with pooper scooper next to each of them. There is a drinking fountain that provides for adult, children, and dogs, even an extra nozzle for wash. This dog park does not separate small and large dogs, so whatever size you have they will all play together. If your dog is scared of a small or large dog than perhaps this isn’t the right dog park for you. I have both a small and medium size dog, on several occasions they have played with other chihuahuas or labs, etc. Everyone got along. Overall, it’s a good dog park for dogs to stretch and let out their energy, while meeting new friends! The only downside I can point out is the park is laid with wood chips and dirt. So your dog can get pretty dirty after fun at the park! Keep in mind, all of Santa Monica’s dog park are paved with wood chips!

Dog fights daily! Maintained horribly, animal control never patrols which they should due to all the unlicensed dogs that there!
