5 stars for Steve! Steve painted my house and provided excellent guidance on colors. He was responsive, quick, clean and careful and came back several times to clean up scuffs other contractors made while work was done. Highly recommend Steve!

I’ve known Steve for 20 years. He is the one and only painter I will trust and ever use as long as he continues to paint. Steve is everything you’d ever want in a service business. He is timely, fastidious, great attention to detail and his painting holds up for years. Steve is a great guy and I feel blessed to know him and consider him a friend beyond just a painter. I reached out to several painters in Santa Monica for bids to paint our town house. Steve was not only the most reasonable by far, but he didn’t try any bogus sales stuff like several others I talked with. He came by, did a walk and gave us a great estimate. Then when it came to the actual work, Steve and his team were amazing. Punctual, efficient and really skilled they nocked out everything right on the timeline they gave us upfront. They were also able to work around a three year old, two dogs and all our stuff. I would recommend them without reservation to anyone.

Steve is your go to guy. Besides his excellent painting, he’s a designer that is so helpful. You can call him anytime and he’s there to help.

I highly recommend Steve Roddey. His work is super professional and the cost is fair. We had our old brown wood stained kitchen cabinets painted white. He gave great suggestions on colors and ways to save on overall costs. He was also fast and got 3 coats done in a couple of days. Hire with confidence. He’s also a nice trustworthy guy.

I’m so happy I found Steve on Unilocal!I went off of prior reviews, and they were spot on.
I still RFP’d a couple of other painters for quotes, and Steve’s came in completely inline with the others, however, what Steve did better was add the personal touch. I really felt like he cared about my house and my choices, and wanted him and his team to do the best job for us that he could.
Steve himself is also a painter, not just a foreman, so that really helped make the finishing touches that much better. He really knows his stuff…
Our new house looks brand new! We wanted everything painted the hardest colour — brilliant white. His teams attention to detail was next to none. I’m super happy with the work he did for me, and currently he’s now painting our friends house!

Steve is a great guy and a great painter. A month after he did my job, I changed a window covering in the room he painted and there was a place that needed touching up. I called Steve and he got back to me immediately, came over and touched it up at no charge! You can’t go wrong with Steve.

I had a small paint job to do in my house. Steve was very responsive, did excellent work, was very nice and reasonably priced. I recommend him highly and will have him do some other jobs for me.

Steve was great. He helped me pick out some colors that look awesome, and the paint job was perfect, he didn’t make any mistakes that I could see. He was professional and showed up when he said he would, and got the job done on time.

We recently moved to a new home and needed to close escrow, paint and move — fast. Steve was a dream to work with. He responded quickly to all emails and phone calls, put up swatches multiple times and gave great advice with regard to colors. We got several other estimates but Steve was not only the lowest but he was also the most professional. He is honest and clearly takes a lot of pride in his work. In fact he recommended we NOT paint our kitchen cabinets because they wouldn’t look all that great.
We ended up hiring Steve and he did a wonderful job — he was prompt, meticulous and straightforward. All lines were clean, no stray paint, he did multiple touchups which weren’t part of our contract, he didn’t go over budget and was extremely trustworthy. The painting is spectacular and we have gotten numerous compliments on the colors and the finish. We’d hire him again in an instant! Other painters won’t give you the attention to detail and professionalism that Steve will.

I needed my recently purchased 3 bedroom, 2 bath 1330 SQ house painted on the inside and possibly the outside. I called around and got a few quotes over the phone. When I spoke with steve he had one of the lower prices but I just got the best feeling from him. After I met with him and got a hard quote about the inside I asked about the outside and it was very fare so I decided on the spot to go with the outside also!
Steve was very professional and gave us non painting tips about the house also that were very useful since we were first time home owners. He kept everything clean always gave me updates on how it was going and when certain things would be finished. In the end we love every room and the outside looks perfect!

I needed my one bedroom, living room and closet area painted and contacted Steve to visit my space and provide an estimate. He arrived the same day I called him and discussed the paint job, gave me a proposal that evening, and I hired him the next day (I was talking to another painter and his rates were similar but Steve was quicker to respond and just seemed more trustworthy).
Steve started the job the following Monday. He really takes pride in his work and has great attention to detail. He did a great job prepping the space — there were a lot of holes, cracks, dents on the walls and he covered them up before painting. Really personable guy and easy to work with! I highly recommend him.
NOTE: I really question the people who gave him negative reviews. He was the exact opposite of what they wrote on Unilocal.My overall experience with Steve was outstanding from our initial meeting to the clean up.

I recently bought a 2-​story house with high ceilings. The seller had an eclectic taste and had odd, dark colors in almost every room. The stairway had been done poorly. Re-​painting the entire house was going to be a big job.
I called four of the top-​rated painters on Unilocal.All four responded. Only Steve gave me a sense that he was trustworthy. He responded the quickest, followed through the most (the others were hit-​and-​miss), and even called on his birthday, which was supposed to be his day off. His bid was the lowest, but I had a strong feeling that he wasn’t going to add on crap after the contract to bump up the cost. I also never got a sense that he’d ditch me for a pricier job.
During his estimate walk-​through, he was very clear about what paint he typically used, the sheen, and what the extras would be. Even better, I had control of the paint brand and extras. He also helped me pick paint for almost two hours and this was before I hired him. He was very patient. I wanted to get it over with and did not want to see the thick, paint chip catalog anymore. He didn’t let me slack because I’d have to live with the decision for a long time. Although I did accept his recommendation for one color, all others were my choice (with a lot of guidance). He didn’t try to push me paint that he already had in stock.
Steve, who is a working contractor, got to work immediately. My house closed at noon. He was already there, ready to patch, prep, and primer. The next day, he had his associate, Tom, working along. I told them to take their time because I wasn’t moving in any time soon. The job took a total of 4 ½ days; many of the rooms required multiple coats and the front room — the one that had the darkest and ugliest colors — is big and high. Their extra care is evident in every room. Steve also touched up for free a lot of areas that weren’t included in the contract. The lines are all clean. No splatter or splotches. The fee quoted at the estimate was exactly what I paid.
I thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with Steve. He’s genuinely nice and easy-​going. My mother dropped by to check out house because she was in the area. I was at the office, but Steve let her in and took her on a tour. Also, I had the carpets cleaned on the last day of painting. I was stuck in court when the cleaner arrived, but Steve helped out by letting the guy into the garage, which requires a separate key.
Steve had the full set of house keys for the entire duration. I had nothing to worry about.
I’ve been walking around in a daze for the past two days because the house is just so beautiful thanks to Steve and Tom. I’m including some before-​and-​after pics; you’ll see the transformation.

Steve Roddey is a fantastic painter as well as a fantastic guy! I was so relieved when I met with him and he was able to paint the interior of my home. I needed it painted asap because my husband and I needed to put it up for rent. I had spoken and met with other painters and was not excited about hiring any of them, but when I met with Steve, he made me feel at ease about the work that needed to be completed. He was so helpful about explaining various white colors to me and pointing out which rooms just needed touch ups while other rooms needed to be completely painted. After meeting with him, I knew he was definitely the painter I wanted to hire.
Steve was always prompt about arriving for work and returning my phone calls and emails. He is easy to talk to and was very kind to my three year old who wanted to help. Mario, who works for him, is also very kind and prompt. I felt at ease about having them both in my home. I especially liked that Steve was here working himself. Before I met Steve, I had a big company complete some painting in my home and they sent different guys on different days and they didn’t care much about the quality of their work. On the contrary, Steve always explained where he would be working each day and painted with precision. I will hire Steve Roddey again on all of my future paint jobs.
