Ocean Gateway Inn

We had a nice two night stay. We rolled a joint in the morning on our way out and left, smoked the joint on the beach. It was lovely. Two days later I get a mysterious $ 50 charge on my bank account from Ocean Gateway Inn. I call a week later, the manager Itzul (sp?) says the person who checked me out noticed I was holding a joint and then smelled weed in the room, so they charged me $ 50. I politely explained that it was an unsmoked joint that I had just rolled in the room, but that we know better than to smoke in the room, and the smell was from uncooked plants. Itzul decides that he knows better, that I can’t be trusted, and he is absolutely positive we smoked in the room. I guess it pays to be so sure of yourself, because they refused to give me my money back. Actually, though, the main message I want to send out to Unilocaler is, watch your bank accounts while you’re staying there, cuz this place is happy to just use your CC numbers for whatever.

Everything was going good until… I suddenly see a family of bugs kicking it getting ready for bed as I try to plug in the microwave. Thankfully the lady was very nice and immediately changed and upgraded our room to a king size bed. Pleased after that.

Charged me $ 80 for a room I didn’t stay in. Refused to return my calls and was extremely rude to my boyfriend. If you don’t want the headache don’t stay here.

We wanted to stay at the glen tavern inn, but something came up and we ended up staying here. The people at the seat were kinda rude in there tone of voice. The rooms where to start. Well first we got into the room and were told the a/​c was turned on, so we expected a cooler room because it was hot and muggy, we got into the room and no a/​c the room was hotter then it was outside. Then we sat on one of the what seemed like beds from the 70’s and the corner seemed like it was going to fall off, oh and the bed sleeping on it is one of the worse that I have ever slept on in almost ever. Third the bathroom, it’s grungy paint is peeling the tub looks like it was pulled from a junk yard, and the shower head is the dirtiest shower head I have ever seen.
Needless to say I don’t ever think I’ll stay here ever again. Wish I would have stayed at the glen tavern in with the ghosts and all.

Worst place ever!!! Stay away!!! The rooms are not cleaned properly… let me just say walking into a room with used condom in bathroom is not a good night and yellow towels that once used to be white made my 6hr sleep the worst and they did nothing but charged my card $ 140 they deserve NO star but thumbs down and this review don’t have that option so my one and only star is for the lobby that was the best part and the clean parking lot

this place is horibble. the internet sucks and there are bed bugs. the beds look like they are not washed and this place stinks. i rather pay extra and go to a better place.

This is the worst motel I have ever stayed in. No AC, 19in TV, and worst of all… BED BUGS!!! Seen them and brought it to managers attention and was offered another room. What a crock, I left immediately. If you don’t care where u sleep, stop in here. If you have any thought of cleanliness, keep on driving. The front seat of your car is better than this motel.

Two words… BED BUGS!!! I had to stay here for work and after two nights I woke up covered in bed bug bites. I mean, COVERED!!! I checked out immediately!!! The internet sucks, the towels are stained and dirty. This place is just plain gross!!!

This is a 30 $ a night motel like a previous reviewer stated. The entire hotel smells like an ashtray. The rooms are not clean, there are stains on the carpet, the beds are uncomfortable. We had to stay here for a softball tournament in Carpinteria and I wish we had driven all the way back to L. A instead. I absolutely do not recommend this place to anyone.

Had to stay here because I was in town for a funeral. If it was up to me I would have stayed in Camarillo and make the drive to Santa Paula. The nicest thing this room offers is the flat screen TV which is A knock off brand called TCL. That’s not saying much! I slept in my clothes, not my pjs, MY CLOThES. Just wanted to be ready in case I needed to kill someone or something. I haven’t slept on a mattress this old and uncomfortable since my visit to county jail. The room is bare bones. The front desk does sell toothpaste and other necessities if you need anything. They provide a small refrigerator and microwave which wasn’t plugged when I walked in. Strangely, the wall both items were placed next to had no extra outlets as the TV was using both. Some of the towels provided, looked like they could be 10 years old. Paper thin and not really white anymore. Here is the deal breaker folks, they have small toilets. Not the fancy ones with elongated bowls where your junk is safe from contact from the rim. I can only imagine what I looked like taking care of business. Probably like Magilla Gorilla riding his little bike. I’m sure you figured out that I won’t be staying here again, as a matter of fact I doubt I will ever visit Santa Paula again. No offense Santa Paulans.

This is a $ 39 a night motel! Don’t let all the great reviews fool you. Keep driving and spend your money elsewhere…

Super friendly service and good price for the stay. If you are looking for a weekend getaway in Ventura area, this is the place to stay.
We went for Citrus Classic Balloon Festival and found Ocean Gateway Inn on their website, also checked their Unilocal review before booking.
King size room is about $ 130 for Sat night; not sure if it is the standard rate or the Festival rate? The room is clean, with microwave, small fridge, small table with 2 chairs, a sofa to watch TV. Not a fancy room but a warming clean room for a INN standard. Bathroom is kind of small though.
The front desk staff was very patient and nice on giving us dining tips, tourist info and driving instruction. Our next favorite thing would be the Fluffy pillows in the closet, there were so comfy and fluffy that we wish they are selling it!
Will stay at this location again for the next festival :)

Was very pleased. The staff was really nice and accomidating. Room was nice and clean. Only downfall the pool was closed at 9pm. If in Santa Paula stay here!

We went to the Citrus Balloon festival this weekend in Santa Paula. Booked our room on line with the «Ocean Gateway Inn» and had no issues. When we arrived the young man at the desk was more then pleasant and efficient, he was funny and charming. Every staff member we came in contact with from the front desk, to the maid service treated us with kindness and respect. The hotel is older there is no doubt but it was clean, we could so tell that this small family owned businesses really tries to make their guest happy. The only rooms that have bars on the windows are on the first floor windows facing the alley, all other windows are clear. We selected the «King Suite» (second floor near stairs) and found the bed to be new, or at the very least newish, shower, T.V., refrigerator and microwave in the room all worked. The FREE WiFi worked great from the moment we checked in. We got up crazy early to be on the field with the balloons at o’dark-thirty and even though it was hours before the listed continental breakfast time, the coffee was ready for us all weekend; two thumbs way up on that one. We used the jacuzzi on Friday and had it all to ourselves, we would of liked it to be hotter but all in all it was relaxing to have some quite. The biggest down side for us was the traffic noise at night, it was more then a distraction to full restful sleep so we tried to use the A/​C — Fan combo in our room to create «white noise» but the machine has a loose barring or something so it makes an odd noise that was equally disturbing to our restful night sleep. By the second night after spending the whole day on the field helping to crew a balloon we could of slept through a hurricane and it ceased to be an issue for us, but I suggest fixing it for future guest. The rooms are priced well enough for a couple, or family on a budget. I think we will be back next year. ;)

I picked this place due to it’s close proximity to the freeway. My hunch paid off well as the staff was very friendly and accommodating. I was more than pleased with the cleanliness and spacious room that was provided. I can’t wait to make my way up there again, it definitely made my visit to Santa Paula more enjoyable.
