Michael’s Painting and Home Improvements

Michael is great in many respects and we recommend him highly.
First, he has a superb sense of color. Even before we hired him, he came to our house and gave us valuable detailed advice with no obligation. Soon thereafter, we hired him to repaint several rooms in our house. Before we hired him we thought we had a pretty good idea what colors we wanted, but as it turned out Michael had a better sense of what we wanted than we did ourselves. The decision was ours, of course, but his advice was extremely helpful. We followed his recommendations, and have never regretted it.
Once our decisions were made, Michael moved ahead with thoroughness and an impressive attention to detail. His desire to keep the workplace tidy, even while his work was in progress for more than a week, was outstanding.
We also enjoyed the opportunity to get to know Michael personally, since my wife and I were both home during the time he worked.
We have never before reviewed anyone on Unilocal and I understand Unilocal’s automated software will probably label this review as «Not Recommended» for that reason. I would like to suggest an alternative interpretation: this is one of the few times we have been sufficiently motivated to write a review, and the reason we are so motivated is the outstanding quality of Michael’s work.

Michael Burdette has completed a number of home interior painting projects for me over the past year. I have been very satisfied with the end result each time.
What sets Michael apart from every other painter I’ve worked with is his innate sense of color. Michael is very gifted in color selection for enhancement, integration, and the intangible aspect of «feeling.»
Michael is what I call a «color intuitive.» What that means is that he knows the energetic and tonal qualities as well as the aesthetic of colors. He may not articulate it in those terms, but Michael certainly guides you in those directions.
When Michael was painting my den, I had chosen a beige-​type color for the accent wall in an attempt to integrate with the artwork and Tibetan carpet I had in the room. As Michael was putting the first coat up we both were not sure it would «work.» Michael stated, «I want to wait until it’s dry before I decide.» An hour or two later, Michael decided, «Almost, but not quite.»
I then chose another slightly different beige-​type color and the moment Michael put it up, we both loved it! The way Michael showed his approval was he closed his eyes and turned his back to the wall and shared, «I can feel this is the perfect color for this room.» It highlighted all the furnishings perfectly — Michael was right on.
Another great quality to Michael’s work is his fastidiousness and desire to keep his painting environment clean and orderly. Michael tapes-​off and covers the painting areas thoroughly and carefully. This translates into virtually no paint splatters or accidents at all.
Michael is a very good person. When I’ve been a little slow in paying my invoices to him, he did not pressure me. He trusted my word and was very patient. Not too many businesses would do that for you.
Michael’s Painting and Home Improvements is one of those small businesses that represents the spirit of Sonoma County and the North Bay, wonderfully.

My wife and I brought Michael to our home to get an estimate on painting all our interior trim and doors. The next day we received an estimate via email that was very reasonable. We had a good sense of Michael’s capabilities, as we had talked many times while at a local networking club in which we are members. We asked him to bring back some paint sample cards for us to choose the trim and door colors, based on what he had seen of our wall colors. Michael’s trained eye immediately picked up on the one color that would serve both purposes, as we had two different colors on various walls. During the process of painting the trim in the family room, we discussed repainting a wall that had faded from the sun (the original paint would no longer match). Michael’s knowledge of color again helped us to determine just the right contrasting color that worked with the other wall and the new trim color. I was impressed by his careful workmanship and his concern for our property, always setting down tarps and taping areas as required. To make what has turned into a long story short, we would hire Michael again in an instant for any painting work in the future. He deservedly gets the 5 star rating!
