It’s 6:00PM. The 12 volt on my Prius is dead. I have an exam the next morning. I have a spare yellowtop Optima battery, but AAA fails me – due to liability issues, they cannot replace a non-AAA brand battery in the car. I’m determined to have the Optima yellowtop installed – don’t want an AAA branded battery. I have zero tools. All of the auto shops are closed. I have zero mechanical knowledge. No time to to try to wing my way through it. Because I have an exam the next morning. I call Mike. He’s over at my house the same night. Briefly glances over the 6-page instruction booklet for battery installation, and then proceeds to play everything by ear. Disassembles and reassembles everything while I hold my Galaxy S4’s flashlight up in the pitch black dark to supplement his solar flashlight. Explains what he’s doing and answers all of my questions(«This is the battery strap. That’s the floor jack. This is the positive and negative terminal.» So on and so forth). Doesn’t panic when the car alarm goes off after connecting the new battery, just tells me to prep my car remote and press the buttons once the alarm sounds. Less than 45 minutes later, my Prius is up and running, and the battery check shows a healthy 12.3v range. He waits while I take the Prius for a spin to make sure it’s running fine. He even takes the old battery off of my hands, offering to recycle it. A genuinely nice guy, and intuitive mechanic. Highly recommend for those emergency situations where you realize your car is dead, AAA can’t help, and you need a mechanic on the dot. Thanks Mike!
