History

Established in 1995.

I first moved to Sonoma County in 1972. I grew up in Petaluma. I have been working professionaly in the automotive industry since 1982. Prior to 1982 I was mentored by a neibor that was a jet mechanic for the Navy Reserves. I have lived in Cotati, Guerneville and now reside in Santa Rosa, California. I have attended College of Marin classes for GM Computer Comand Control (C3) and port fuel port injection which covers Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Buick, Saturn and GMC Trucks. Bosch D, L, LH-​Jetronic, Motronic Fuel Injection which covers VW, Audi, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes Benz, and some Jaguars. I have also studied Asien Fuel Systems which covers Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Subaru. My First vehicle was a 1968 Dodge Dart. To this day some of my favorite classic vehicles have the Dodge, Chrysler and Plymouth name plate. I would like to find another clean late 60’s Dodge Dart

On Tuesday, 12/​01/​2015, my friend and I called Your Place Or Mine mobile mechanic. When the person on the other end of the phone answered, my friend said, «Hello, Hello» twice because he was not able to clearly hear the male person who had answered the phone. Five minutes later we called again to try to get a mechanic to the location where the vehicle was broken down. This time the same male person answered the phone. My friend politely asked the for a mechanic. Since the call was on speaker phone, I clearly heard the male caller rudely state, are you calling me just to say hello. When we tried to explain to him the situation. He rudely stated that we did not sound like the type of people he would want to assist.
The actions of this mechanic where totally unprofessional and rude. Someone like this should not be in business. I was totally disgusted with his demeanor. If I could give this idiot 0 stars, I would.

We found Nowell through an ad in Craigslist in December. Boy are we glad we did. We had a 1987 Ford dump truck that hadn’t been running in over 2 years that we couldn’t get started. Nowell came out a gave us a very reasonable estimate on what it would take to get it running. The engine now purrs like a kitten.
Nowell has also worked on our Saab, Chevy and Toyota. He is an ASE Master Mechanic. I don’t think you could find anyone better or more fair. Nowell gets 5 Stars in my book

My check engine light had been on for a long time, but being a little bit of a shade tree mechanic, I ignored it after I found out it was just an oxygen sensor. Then it started getting worse…
A friend recommended that I call Noelle to take a look at it. He found that both O2 sensors were bad and that I might need a new catalytic converter (yikes!). He was able to meet me on a Saturday and fix the problem super quick!
So far the check engine light hasn’t come back on, and I haven’t had to replace the catalytic converter (yet).
He isn’t the cheapest (nor the most expensive), but the fact that he could come to me and work on a Saturday was worth every cent!

Last week as I was driving to work in the early morning, just as the sun was rising, my left front headlight went out. It was light enough that I felt safe continuing to drive but worried about driving home again that night. I called Your Place or Mine Mobile Mechanic and Nowell came and replaced the headlight while I was at work. What a relief! I have the number in my phone and feel safe knowing my car will get the care it needs when ever there is a problem.

**UPDATE** I just received two incredibly angry phone calls (including a nasty voicemail when i didnt pick up the second time) from Nowell himself threatening to sue me and try to get me in trouble at my job if I did not remove this review. My understanding is that Unilocal is a place for honest feedback, which I gave. To threaten me and my livelihood for writing a review is EXACTLY the inappropriate and unprofessional behavior I received the first time I contacted this business.**

I’ve gone a lot of years without a Unilocal account, and it took customer service this terrible for me to finally make an account.
I am a manager of a company that has a fleet of commercial vehicles and one of them broke down in Sonoma yesterday. When I called Your Place or Mine on a Saturday afternoon, I knew it was a long shot that they would be able to help us out on short notice, but I had to find a mobile mechanic and they looked like they might be able to help, or at least point me in the right direction.
I didn’t expect they would have availability, but I did expect to be treated like a customer and talked to respectfully. After all, my company could represent a huge amount of business for them if things went well.
The man that answered the phone begrudgingly listened to my situation (including my question of whether he could recommend someone if he couldnt handle it). He then informed me that he had «already worked 6 days this week» and «didn’t really want to deal with this». He made me feel as though I had inconvenienced him by calling and offering him my business, and then hung up on me while I was mid-​sentence.
I have no problem hearing that a company can’t handle my request, but it is unacceptable to treat a customer this way. It’s not my fault that this guy is overworked, and he could have said he was overbooked (or even not answered the phone!) but instead he decided to dump his horrible attitude on me.
I would never, ever give my business to a company who can’t even bother to be kind to a potential customer.
