DIY Yogurt

What were they thinking? Yogurt machines are gone. They now have some crazy hand making process that takes forever and tastes horrible. My daughter and I both felt sick after. I think they’ll be out of business soon. Quite sad– not sure why they chose the drastic change. Bad business decision.
Oh– and to top off our tummy-​ache experience, we had to listen to 2 loud, obnoxous teenage girls who worked there babbling like they were hanging out at school– not working! Even my 11 yrar old couldn’t stand it.

Looks like this place is already closed for business. Went on a weekday and it was closed. Tried calling the number and it’s no longer in use. Can someone please confirm? Thanks!

What a fun place!!! Went here for the first time with the kids. How fun to watch the liquid nitrogen process. My kids loved it. We all liked our flavors– Mine were coconut & mango YUM! Not soft serve consistency, but great flavors, great prices and FREE toppings– Great place for the kids! The owners were soooo friendly and let my kids check out all the Star Wars stuff. So much Star Wars stuff! Love the atmosphere with games to play, Pandora playing, nice & casual. We will definitely be back to support a local fun place. Not just a yogurt– an experience!

As my brother put it, they have committed business suicide. As of July 2013, they removed the DIY part of DIY Yogurt and replaced it with a Manual Liquid Nitrogen Process (MLNP). They are saving a whole lot of money, but now DIY Yogurt has turned into a process.
1) Tell them what flavor you want. You can ask for samples, but they have to prep the sample, you can’t just go up to a machine and try a flavor. They put the yogurt flavor into a bowl, pour liquid nitrogen (food grade) into the bowl and then mix it for a bit, and voila, you have a hard bunch of frozen yogurt to try. If you have the time, you can try all flavors, but people behind you will not be so happy.
2) After the endeavor of watching them do SCIENCE to your fro yo, you then get to put whatever toppings you want. The toppings are the same as before, and they do have quite the assortment.
The yogurt is hard, it is definitely not soft serve.
One problem with changing their machines out for liquid nitrogen is that you no longer have control over how much yogurt you get. You tell them you want a small tart yogurt, and they prep it for you. If you ask for more they have to prep more for you. They are still charging per weight, so technically they have control over the price of your yogurt, not you.
Also, if you ask for multiple flavors, they have to prep each flavor separately.
Part of the cost of a soft serve DIY yogurt place is the cost of running the soft serve machines. That is something you have to accept if you are going to have a DIY yogurt place.
Sure, you still get to choose your toppings, but DIY yogurt is about doing your own yogurt, not placing your own toppings.
The owner is a nice guy, and I heard he had a cool Star Wars display, but it was just a few Star Wars toys scattered on a shelf above the toppings, nothing to write home about. He is very personable and polite.
I’ve been to DIY Yogurt before and after the change to the MLNP, and I hope that they do well. I do not foresee that they will from a business aspect, the MLNP is not efficient for customers and now DIY staff control the cost.
Sure they are saving money on overhead cost, but how much money will they lose from sales?

Seems like the place improved a lot under the new management. I would definitely recommend to check the place out. Not sure if they have new flavors but would not be surprised.

I’ve been here twice. Once for a girls night and then I stopped by today after work. I love this place. It’s cheap, convenient, and the staff is super friendly. I have told my friends about it and I’m going to keep going back for more!

I went to go check this place out recently to see how much it changed. I worked here for my first job, right before Rose took over the ownership. I met Mike, the new owner, and had a great conversation with him about Star Wars and his excitement about his future as the owner. The yogurt was good, as always, but Mike was the real reason for my leaving so happy. He seems like a really genuine and nice person, and is overflowing with enthusiasm. I also really like that it’s become a family business with his wife and his daughter. He also put in a little game corner, which I thought was pretty cool.
The fresh fruit toppings were great as well! Nice, sweet strawberries and blackberries!

Never been here before so I stopped by to check out the new management. Mike likes kids because Mike’s a big kid. He has bigger toys, like his Clone Wars helmet there.
The yogurt is good, and there are a lot of fresh cut fruit toppings which is a major plus for me. You can’t beat the prices either.
The only thing I’d change… those awful green walls.

YES! under new management. the wicked witch is dead. the new owners cleaned the place real good and they are great people who love, love, love kids. come check them out. great flavors and the new owners (mike and shannon) love people and you will love them.

The yogurt here sucks! It tastes like chemicals and its loose and watery. PLUS its pretty pricey if you ask me. The place is dirty and there is a weird shrine. I would much rather drive to Golden spoon or even to Yogurtland on college. Their yogurt is amazing. This place stinks.

This place is ghetto as all get out. Step it up sister. Customer service 101: turn off the TV and act like you care about the business. The yogurt tasted fine, topping were decent; what lacked was enthusiasm and pride.

Place isn’t very clean, toppings don’t appear to be fresh, and there is this odd shrine of I think Robert Pattenson?
The worst thing about this place is that it seems to always be closed when I want a yogurt. I don’t see how they say they close at 10 on Fridays because I know I’ve driven by there before then and they were closed :(
I’d rather drive down the road to Penguin.

I started coming here right after they changed this place to DIY yogurt. I’d come once a week after school and enjoy some yogurt. I’ve always liked this place and have always invited people to come join me here.
After going to numerous yogurt shops, I have decided that this particular store is one of my favorites. They have very homely employees and the owner is such a doll.
Their flavors very within seasons, and they always taste great. I’m a fan of their vanilla, which I load up with various toppings. Their toppings have stayed the same over the years, and you can expect to come here for great quality products.
I have never experienced any problems here, and would recommend this place to everyone!

In there often, the owner Rose is the most sweetest person I have ever met. The best flavors Mango, Angel food Cake, some crazy berry one, almond joy, so many really are great and she changes them up often so you don’t get bored. Tons of toppings to choose from. Great FAMILY place!

I come here often. They have a good selection of yogurt and toppings with a friendly staff.
With the huge selection of yogurt places everywhere DIY is at the top of my list.

Rose is very friendly and she is willing to help out with any Kids sporting event you have. She gives you great deals on large orders. Also there is just enough space in the shop to have a soccer or softball team party.

Meh… it wasn’t all that spectacular. Considering that Yogurt Mill is my favorite and recently visiting Yogurtland (with their million flavors and toppings) this was just average. We decided to go here because we didn’t want to drive and this place was near our house. They were almost closing when we got there — 9:30 pm on Saturdays. The interior was very nondescript and the staff not super friendly. They had minimal flavors, although their Mounds yogurt was the highlight of the trip! The toppings didn’t seem to be all that fresh either.
I would make the drive in the future to some of my other favorites instead of stopping here…

The yogurt here, of the serve yourself variety, is pretty nominal in the way of standing out from the opposition. You have your variations in cup sizes, a medium amount of flavor selections, and a cornucopia of toppings, ranging from Oreo Cookies, to the molasses-​like slush of chocolate syrup.
The shop itself has the lighting of a hospital room, but without the stray diagrams that tell of the human digestive system — though, with the unhealthy mounds of chocolate chips and other superfluous toppings in abundance, it may be ultimately beneficial to DIY’s more incessant eaters to have one of these posters up.
The staff of the shop, generally regulated to one working employee, behave in a way that isn’t necessarily welcoming nor altogether offensive. They usually stand in one spot, slightly erect, like a tree bending to the high wind of a storm; that is, until a customer walks up, yogurt in hand, and rights them.
DIY’s flavors aren’t really anything to stare agape at, but they get the job done, though I’ve seen better.
Really, in closing, I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here, unless you were in the area, unable to find another location, and really wanted a gob of soft serve yogurt for a quick pick-​me-​up.
Just remember: there are better, cheaper locations.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. I used to live in Santee (don’t ask me why… actually, you can ask, and I’ll tell you, the rent was amazing…) …ANYWAY, I used to frequent this place almost daily (yes, I have an addiction.)
FIRST of all, they have a bunch of flavors, and switch them out ALL the time, which is awesome. They also ALWAYS have at least a few Wow Cow and Skinny Minnie flavors — which SO rocks my world.
Second — Rose, the manager, is the NICEST and MOST helpful!!!
Third — Their topping bar is amazing. Yes, AMAZING. A managerie of toppings. Love it. OH — and you can get cones too!!!
Lastly — seriously, this place rocks. If you’re in the area, check it out.
