Hughes Heating & Air Conditioning

In the beginning I was very impressed. I felt confident especially with all the great reviews I had already read. I was not oversold. In fact it was the opposite. I was promised a follow up visit by Dave which never occurred. Months went by and I decided to try again. Great service at the initial consult by Eric, got a follow up phone call from Gaylord, but never heard back after that. I called again and left a message on Gaylord’s voicemail but never got a return call. So based on the lack of follow through, I give these guys a 2 star rating :[ And I still don’t have my Air conditioning issue resolved.

My A/​C unit’s fan stopped turning, it was making a loud funky sound and not conditioning my air. Because I am in fact a a real life genius, I was able to figure out something might be wrong. But just to confirm my suspicion, I called this company based off of other Unilocalsters reviews.
Excellent experience with this company. From calling to schedule an appointment to when the tech arrived to do the job. The call taker was friendly and helpful and asked if I wanted to be called when the tech was 30 minutes away from my house.
Day of appointment, I received a call from the company advising me the tech was on his way. 30 minutes later, boom. tech arrived. He quickly diagnosed the problem, (the A/​C units flux capacitor was broken) he replaced the $ 15 part and now I can rack up the charges on my electricity bill by running my A/​C! Woo hop.
The tech was also helpful and professional.
So, because I am a genius, I called this company and had quality work done at a fair price.
Total cost $ 100.00.

My heater was acting up and I could not get it figured out so I decided to call a local company. Not only were they able to show up at 7:30am Michelle also answers phones at 7am. They came out fixed the problem in les than 30 mins. The charge was well below what I budgeted for too. Gaylord the tech was clean nice and fixed a few other loss screws in the unit too. My A/​C wasn’t working and I was in need of some help. We finally saved up a little cash and went looking around for an affordable AC place. I ended up finding this place on Unilocal.
I called on a Friday and was serviced the following week on a Wednesay. I figured since this company wasn’t as big as others, they had less employees so I was ok with that. And it wasn’t much of an emergency.
The tech came out and replaced a few fuses (which I kinda figured was the problem but I had no idea how to change them), a filter, and a thermostat. The tech stated that the thermostat wasn’t working properly (yet I just used it the following day to test the AC before he came out). I ended up paying $ 80 for a thermo stat, which costs $ 36.00 online. I understand that the company has to make some money, but charging the customer double the price is a little ridiculous.
I may or may not go with these guys in the future. The service was done, and my AC is working and the tech was friendly. Service was 3 stars. «A-​OK.»

I answer phones for a living. Many months ago I had a customer on the line and we started to make small talk. I talked about how hot it was at the current time and how my air conditioner was broke. The lady on the line turned out to be Mrs. Hughes. We had a brief conversation and I actually talked to Mr. Hughes himself for a few minutes about my situation. I let them know that when the time came to get my air conditioning needs fixed that I would give them a call. Fast forward about a year or so and the time came. I called them up to make an appointment to get my situation surveyed. I set an appointment for a Friday and they came out to check everything out.
Eric and Dave arrived right on time. Even a little bit early! They did give me a precall first which is always appreciated. They are right here in Santee too so they are real close. Dave took pictures of everything and then left back to the office to start to build my bid. Eric stayed at my house and did some work to get my A/​C unit operational at least. He installed a new thermostat and replaced some parts and then my A/​C unit was working like a charm. This brings me to a side point… I have had at least 2 other A/​C companies come out to «service» my unit. The first guy told me one thing was wrong and told me that I needed a new part (total cost $ 300). Eric showed me the same part this guy replaced a few years ago and told me that its only a $ 10-​$ 20 part. I felt ripped off and wish I would have known better back when it happened. Another thing that the last 2 companies missed (intake filter) should have been super obvious to spot yet they both missed it and told me lies about where it was located etc. Anyways… live and learn. All I’m trying to say is that Hughes/​Eric/​Dave are honest, hard working people who wont give you the run around. They even asked what I wanted to do. They asked if I wanted to replace the existing A/​C system that I had, or to repair/​maintain it. Most companies are money hungry and would just TELL you what needed to be done instead of asking. Its all about how situations are approached. Dave was a cool dude and I appreciated his honesty.
Fast forward 3 weeks down the road.
The main reason I needed work done is that our unit/​vents/​ducts were old and nasty. Before we bought our house, our place had been vacant for about 2 years. All the years prior to that, the people who lived here smoked in the house. When we would turn on our A/​C we would get stale smoke smell etc. even though its been years. We decided to get our ducts replaced. A different couple of guys came out to install the new ducts etc. One guy was named James, the other guys name I forgot (sorry!). They did a great job. They replaced all the duct work in my attic, installed a new intake filter in my ceiling and installed a new vent in my bathroom. They did great work, were very professional and cleaned up after themselves.
Today is really the first day I have used our A/​C since it was fixed. On hot days like today it makes a world of difference. I’m sitting in a nice cool house writing this review! If you ever need some A/​C work done, please call Hughes! They are friendly, prompt and very reasonably priced. They were the first A/​C company that had been to my house that knew what they were doing! I will continue to use them for yearly maintenance and if I ever need any other A/​C or heating needs, they will be the ONLY company I call in the future.

I called Hughes after another company told me I needed a new contactor and gave me an estimate of around $ 300.00. I did not trust them so called Hughes to get 2^nd opinion. Eric was so helpful. The contactor was fine. It turned out to be a bad fuse. I got off for less than $ 100.00.
Eric also made sure I had installed a new filter correctly. He was very nice and knowledgeable. I received a call about 15 before he arrived and was appreciative of this timely response. I will use them again and recommend to all my friends.

We needed a technician because we had loud noise coming from our AC unit. They gave us a time slot of 8−12pm today and was kind enough to call us 30 min ahead, which they came at 9:30 a.m. Eric explained the noise was normal, changed the filter and only charged us $ 85 for the first hour he was there. (they explained that it was $ 85 for the estimate which would go towards any repairs). Eric couldn’t have been more nicer and informative. Thanks Hughes!

Called these guys up today because external unit fan wasn’t spinning and was creating a loud screeching noise. They were able to get a great tech out, Pablo, who figured out the capacitor needed to be replaced. He did the work great and the house is already cooling down. Price was very reasonable and work already complete. Thank you so much! This pregnant lady will be much more comfortable soon :)

I was recommended by a friend to use these guys! GOOD thing I did! Al (owner) was very helpful. His tech Pablo came out promptly and diagnosed my broken AC on the roof! VERY honest, fixed the problem very inexpensively! I thought maybe my condenser was toast but my man Pablo brought it back to life and it works better than it ever did before AND I got off the hook for less than $ 200 in my case! These guys will not try and Roll you! I will highly recommend them to anyone! These guys are the most honest, best AC/​Heat guys I’ve delt with yet!
