My Place, Just for Kids

I love MPJFK. My daughter attended this daycare from 2011 to 2013 and she loved every second of it. I accidentally stumbled upon the daycare one day looking around my neighborhood on Google maps, checked it out and enrolled her a week or two later. Lisa is great with all the kids and really knows how to pick her teacher helpers out. They are always attentive and caring with each and ever kid, but also know how to discipline appropriately! The kids are fed healthy snacks and lunches which is GREAT and not found at most other daycares. She is very personable and communicates well during the day to let you know of anything happening, which can be helpful for the clingy parents :) I would and do recommend this daycare to all my friends who have kids between 2 – 5.
My daughter hasn’t been enrolled there for almost two years now but we are still great friends and visit more than a few times a year!

I can’t stress enough to think twice about this daycare! I never expected to post ANOTHER review, but I think this should be seen.
After writing review, I reached out to Lisa about tax information through text message and this was her response (at 10:30am on a Tuesday).
*Disclaimer: everything she said is a lie and everything I said in my review is based on my own account.*
Daycares don’t send tax forms in the mail. That is a responsibility of employers to an employee. It is the parents responsibility to keep track of childcare expenses, as this was explained to you at the time of enrollment. But of course I keep records and out of courtesy I provide current clients a form at the end of the year and as they leave (which I printed and provided to you on your last day).
Thanks for the Unilocal retraction. Very kind of you. I’m sure you got a lot of the false information from the employee I terminated but that’s irrelevant now. I’m glad to have this opportunity to clear up your misconceptions: I NEVER fed kids «Kraft» cheese slices!!! I feed the kids whole natural cheese and cut it into slices, and I do feed organic granola bars! I do right by the children and make a conscious effort to NOT cut corners, especially with food.
You would know any of this if you were ever present at breakfast or snacks. You could ONLY have received this untruthful information from the x employee you befriended. (I WAS PRESENT AND THIS WAS BASED ON MY OWN ACCOUNT)
The moldy sippy cup spout was brought to YOUR attention, not the other way around… and we never fed your baby from it after we detected the mold on day one. It was an in appropriate type lid that was hard to keep clean. (THIS WAS NOT WHAT WAS SAID TO ME VIA TEXT. I WAS TOLD THAT THE CUP WAS CONTINUALLY WASHED, BUT MOLD KEPT COMING BACK)
It’s amazing how you viewed things so differently than how they really occurred, but didn’t come to me with any of these concerns. Instead you left leaving us to believe everything was harmonious. You failed to include that your child was a chronic biter and grumpy each afternoon only because he was redirected from play for another bite. (THIS IS A HILARIOUS STATEMENT AND SO NOT WORTH MY TIME)
Your complaint is cowardly and made from behind the computer screen.
I know that disgruntled x employee fed you a bunch of crap. That why she was terminated: for her dishonesty. She couldn’t get along with others either. She made up stories daily about them to me and vice versa. Even if this isn’t the case,
You too, seem to find fault in others very easily and your sharp tongue is visible to all who encounter your unkindness. You were the only mom at our daycare who didn’t bond with the group. (AGAIN, ALL MY OWN ACCOUNT AND DIDN’T FEEL THE NEED TO TELL LISA DIRECTLY AFTER I HAD TIME TO THINK THINGS OVER AND MY CHILD WAS NO LONGER IN HER CARE. I AM STILL FRIENDS WITH MOMS ON FB!)
We, including me treated your child with the utmost love and compassion and never held it against him that his mother was so rude. (I NEVER SAID YOU DID AND WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT. THAT SEEMS CRUEL!)
I spend 50 work day hours a week plus weekends working on my business here and if I run personal errands on my RARE breaks that is my business. You try working 50 hours a week and not take a break! I am well within the time frame that a business owner should be present. I never shared the nature of my appointments on my personal time with parents, so again, you were given information from your friend. You didn’t attempt to try and know anything about me or us. You didn’t like the staff or the parents and it showed. I hope for your child’s sake that you treat his future caregivers better than you did us, because some people out there aren’t as nice to the child of a «meanie mom». (NICE NAME-​CALLING. AND THESE ACCOUNTS OF TIME SPENT AWAY DOING HER NAILS AND HAIR CAME FROM HER MOUTH WHILE PICKING UP MY CHILD)
I won’t be replying to any more correspondence from you unless it is peaceful and until you remove that ridiculous Unilocal retraction. So bear that in mind when you don’t hear back from me again.
I had to post this because i CANNOT believe I allowed my child to be in this person’s presence with the nasty words she had to say to me. This is a daycare where I expect my child to learn and grow, not a social club where we gossip, call other moms «meanie moms» and talk about they are not part of the group.

Wow! I don’t even know where to begin. My Place Just For Kids is AMAZING!!! My oldest, now 4 ½ attended there since he was 22 months old. In his young life he had been to several daycares… And none seemed the right fit for him and our family. Until we met Ms. Lisa… She is so warm and kind. She loves ALL children at her daycare. She takes the time to nurture them like a mom, yet help them learn like a teacher too. As a Kindergarten teacher myself, it is important to see my child being prepared for «big boy school» as he calls it. We love it there so much that as soon as he was old enough, our 2^nd child began attending. The staff is loving and fun, the curriculum is engaging, and the environment is positive. This is not JUST a home daycare, it is a home away from home for my boys. We feel like My Place Just For Kids is part of our family. When previous students return to visit for years to come, you know that’s a good sign. We love everything about this place. You’d be lucky to have your child attend!

I was always weary about home daycares until I found MPJFK. My little guy started there at 2 and has grown leaps and bounds (3 ½ yrs old now). The teachers and owner really love and care about the kids in their care and help them learn in many ways. He even is learning a little Spanish which is awesome. Highly recommend!!!

This isn’t just a daycare. This is family and you feel like you’re part of the family the moment you step inside. I searched for a long time for a daycare I felt comfortable leaving my son with. Looking in San Diego and the cost for daycare I almost went crazy. I found My Place Just For Kids online and decided to visit and get a tour. Fell in love! My son was with Lisa from about 2010 to 2012 and I was so sad to leave (The ONLY reason we left is because our family got stationed across country) The environment there is so nurturing and fun. There were lots of holiday parties that brought all the parents and children together like a small little community.
She cooks the children yummy, delicious meals everyday, they had tons of time to have fun outdoors and be creative (My son always brought home the cutest arts and crafts). She also gets them prepped for Prek and Kindergarten. I seriously wish I was back in San Diego just so my daughter can go there and have as great an experience as her bog brother. Words can’t even express…

I was fortunate enough to be a SAHM for a while so as you can imagine, going back to work was tough because after all, who could I trust to take care of my babies better than me?! My kids are very close in age (15 months apart) so I was very lucky to be home with them both. We enrolled our daughter when she was 20 months old, initially on a PT basis so that she could learn and develop her social skills independently and so I could enjoy some one-​on-​one time with my son, but then we moved her to FT 6 months later when she decided to give up her naps at home. I don’t know how Ms. Lisa does it but she is definitely, IMO, the non-napper’s whisperer … now at 4−½ and 3−½, my kids are still napping for her (and only her — still no naps when they’re home with me – Ha!).
So eventually I went back to work so both my son and daughter have been enrolled at MPJFK since they were each 20 months old. I checked out other preschool facilities, as well as other home daycares but none were good enough for my babies until I found MPJFK! They received the nurturing that you can only find in a home daycare setting coupled with the curriculum found in a preschool environment. My son definitely had some social challenges and I really didn’t want him to be in anyone’s care but mine but wow, what a difference 6 months and a year made for my little man … seriously! Ms. Lisa and her staff are amazing with my kids and they have all become a part of our family. Actually, all of the other daycare families are now an extension of our family. I love that Ms. Lisa hosts family parties throughout the year so that we (the parents) can all get to know one another and from there, new friendships were formed, not just between the kids but between the parents too. So it has become so much more than just a daycare for my children but (hopefully) lifelong friendships too.
At MPJFK, my kids get the love and attention they deserve and the education (from a preschool standpoint) and social skills they need to help mold them into the little people they are today. I’m a parent beaming with pride over how smart, sweet and polite my children are thanks to Ms. Lisa and her staff. It’s wonderful that we’re always on the same page together since she is such a big part of how my children are being raised.
As some of the other reviewers noted, Ms. Lisa’s home actually looks like a home and always smells so nice … how she keeps her home so immaculate, I don’t know … my home looks more like a daycare than hers does. Ha! I’ve never known of a home daycare looking and smelling so clean all the time like MPJFK does … all the time … I’ve always been so impressed! :)
As for the education, she offers a school year curriculum (Sept-​May) and then more of a summer camp style from June-​Aug. My daughter has become quite the little artist this past year and I know it’s because of MPJFK. Both my kids know their letters, numbers, colors, shapes, etc. and will be completely prepared for kindergarten when the times comes (which will be in 6 months for my daughter — she’s really making great strides and I feel confident she will be more than prepared when school starts in the fall).
I just can’t say enough good things about Ms. Lisa and her staff! The thought of my daughter leaving her for public school makes me so emotional but thankfully we still have some time before my son will be leaving too. She really has become an instrumental part of my children’s lives and I’m thankful we found someone with the same core values as ours to help raise these two amazing little people!!! :)

Both of my girls had amazing experiences here! The learning atmosphere integrated with fun is extremely noticeable. The staff is attentive and patient and the location is extremely safe. I highly recommend My Place, Just for Kids!
