Gauthier’s Saranac Lake Inn

We had 3 different kinds of rooms here for a family ladies getaway. My room had the kitchen and therefore no view (parking lot out one window, shrink wrapped boat out the other). Room was clean, bed was comfy, kitchen is small but has the essentials: regular sized fridge, dishwasher, microwave, small oven with burners on top, sink, and small table with 4 chairs — it was fine for our breakfast and snacking and late night wine and cheese gathering. This room does have a room that connects to it so it could make a nice family accommodation. My mom and sister shared a balcony room — that was nice as all 4 of us could sit out and watch the passing scene. My sister in law had a room right on the «beach» downstairs — had to go down a somewhat rickety concrete staircase to get to hers. There are free canoes and kayaks, life jackets, fishing poles, bicycles. This is like a dated place from the 1960s or 70s — it is not the Taj Mahal but it is sufficient. The bathrooms are very small and the water can be pretty hot so stand outside the shower and adjust temp before getting in. My bathroom was larger than the others and had a tub — but the tub had no plug so you could not take a bath anyway. The guy in the office was nice. We left our keys at the front desk at checkout as nobody was there when we were leaving — kind of odd, but what can you do? This place is like an old style motel — it is not the place to go if you are looking for luxury. It is very casual — we had fun. We did not stay in the rooms much but traveled around — went on a hike, went shopping in Lake Placid, etc. It was fine.

So overpriced and misleading! Rooms are small dirty and the bathrooms are smaller than a camper. Poor service. Heaven forbid if you stay under the other rooms… kids, noise, running toilet every time some one went to the bathroom you can hear everything:(. Poor parking, the view is of a marina… The list goes on do not be fooled by the green revolution they are just unplugging everything to same themselves money and making it a hassle to reset everything, yet the water scalded my wife it was so hot the cold water was hot. Please find another spot the saranacs are the best.

My husband and I stayed at Gautheir’s for a weekend in mid September as a mini get-​away following our wedding. The Inn was charming and the room was clean with nice views of Lake Flower. The Inn staff were accomodating and friendly. We had told them we were newlyweds and when we arrived there was a bottle of wine waiting in our room. We really enjoyed our stay at the Inn and loved the quaint village feel of Saranc Lake. The village is an affordable alternative to Lake Placid, and would recommend it and Gauthier’s to anyone looking to stay in high peaks area.

We went there on vacation. The service was good. The room was a little cramped and dated, needing more electrical outlets. We were willing to trade that for the view and location. We would go there again.

Nice people, great room, very very clean and classy. I stopped in without a reservation and they were so so accommodating. WIFI was fast and there is a great Mexican place across the street. Great place!

We stayed for 4 nights in June. The motel was excellent, clean, comfotable and roomy. a beautiful position on the edge of the lake and there were free canoes you could take out and other equipment. There was even a tennis court although we didn’t play on it. However it all went terribly wrong when we were charged twice for our room. The owner was very unhelpful on the phone when we complained and said it was our error which it clearly was not. I suggest you check the bill carefully when you check out and know what they will bill you for to avoid any difficulties. The customer service is extremely poor.

Horrible place to stay! Unless you like disgusting places. I complained of various «stains» all over our bed, and a rodent in our room to one of the owners, and he refused to do anything about it! Without any refund or apologizes my girlfriend and I found another, much cleaner place to stay. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

This place is the worst experience I’ve had and seriously overpriced considering its run down insufficiently heated motel with the worst old beds I’ve ever seen. Our room had the baseboard heat disconnected and was heated by an in the wall air conditioner that failed to heat the room. The bathroom was not heated at all or have a bathroom exhaust fan which I thought was a building code requirement.
The manager-​owners seem nice enough but clueless as they listened to our issues and didn’t or couldn’t correct them. We heard similar complaints from others staying at the same time such as shower doors falling off and insufficient heat when the temperature reached 10 BELOW at night, not unusual for this area…
There are plenty of other places to stay in the area so do yourself a favor and keep looking!

This place is nothing like what the pictures on the website show. Our room had a double bed (not a queen), and was just large enough to walk around. In one corner, there was a random, older mini fridge just sitting on the floor unplugged (eco-​friendly!) and a little nook where they had hung a pole as a make-​shift closet. The bed was extremely uncomfortable — one of the worst nights sleep I have ever gotten at a hotel. But, I guess it should be noted that this is not a hotel. This is a motor lodge that claims to be a hotel.
The carpets felt dirty and the exposed comforter was far from clean. At the shocking rate of $ 179 a night this place was highway robbery. By far the crappiest hotel I have ever had the displeasure of staying at for an absolutely absurd price. To make matters worse, the front desk attendant is completely useless and only lets you know when someone with actual authority will be available for a phone call.
Be warned, there are plenty of other nicer places to stay in this area for a fraction of the cost.

Pretty nice place, clean comfy bed. Eco initiatives are appreciated. The web site makes it all look a bit bigger and nicer than it is. We got a queen suite with «lake view» and «patio» which was tiny, and on the first floor so no privacy to open blinds or windows. The patio was more a walkway to all the other rooms. The staff was friendly. For the price we found much nicer and better values in lake placid, to our surprise.

This is a great place to bring the family. Many rooms are right on the water, free kayaks and canoes to use. Natural Green cleaning, bedding and soaps. Comfortable but not too fancy. I normally use the big hotels when I travel for work but a friend suggested Gauthier’s and I am so happy to have taken a break from the commercial comforts. It’s so quiet by the lake. All I could hear were murmuring of a child playing and muffled quiet conversations of other patrons enjoying the waters edge. It was so comforting I felt like I was visiting family on the lake.

Homelike atmosphere. Staff very friendly and yet knowledgeable when it came to good local establishments at which to eat. Liked the fact that this is a green business and there were glass glasses to use instead of plastic cups.

Came to stay here during our snowboarding trip to Whiteface. The staff is all very friendly and accommodating. There is free coffee + tea from 730am — 10pm. In the summer, the staying price includes all the boat/​kayak/​canoe rentals and swimming. The beds are ridiculously comfortable. AND it’s pet friendly! Don’t think there’s a reason I wouldn’t be back, unless I found a better deal somewhere else: p 2 bed standard for 99/​night this time around.

No bells and whistles, but what a great place! I stayed only one night, but could have stayed forever. Very clean and comfortable room. The owners/​staff were beyond helpful.
The weather was rainy and cold so I was not able to take advantage of much of the activities outside, but they have kayaks, canoes, paddle-​boats, fishing poles and other items all for use. The location is near restaurants and stores if you need to venture out. There are Adirondack chairs all over as well so there is plenty of room to sit, relax and enjoy the views.
The room was spotless and the bedding was amazingly comfortable. If I could have put the bed in my van, I would have. :-) The bathroom was small, but very nice and the complimentary toiletries were great. I forgot my shampoo/​conditioner and used the ones they provided. I am now I am on a hunt to find where I can buy them because they were excellent. The room also has a small fridge, table and chairs and small closet.
Just as a heads up to those who have not been here. This place is great, but if you are looking for a lot of tech (Wi-​Fi, High Def TV, Cell Phone reception) this is not the place for you. I was not able to connect to the Wi-​Fi as I think my room was too far away from the signal. My cell phone had one bar inside the room, so it was dropping calls and not able to hold a connection to internet, mail, etc. The TV is fine, but it’s not High-​Def so the picture is simple and some of the channels are fuzzy. I found this to be a bit of a blessing in disguise as I was able to tune out the world for one night.
The owners and staff seem to take great pride in this place and it shows. I travel for business often and am always looking for little gems like this. I wholeheartedly recommend it and will definitely be staying in the future.

This is a great place to stay. We had a beautiful room, right on the lake, with a view that blew my mind and the bed was sooo comfortable with such good heat in the room. (Californians need good heat in a cold location!) My husband could not get enough of the coffee. We were especially impressed with all the «green» features and the personal hospitality of the owners. It was so cool to have that huge flat screen TV with all those stations. The best part was the value for the room rate. We will be back and this time for at least a week with the kids.

We love it here, from our first phoned in reservation 3 years to my trip there two weeks ago. Free Kayaks and Canoes a huge plus, not to mention a couple of borrowed fishing rods. Free coffee daily (and good coffee too). We initially pick this place due to it’s location, away from major tourist towns like Lake Placid or Lake George, and conviniently located near gas station, supermarket and thankfully no Starbucks. Took our friends and their family there this past summer, everyone had a great time.
Can’t wait to return again!

Great place to stay. Very friendly staff. Clean and simple on high level of hospitality. Lots of amenities, especially for children. Good ecologically room service. We especially loved the possibillity to use the canoes of the hotel during our stay.

I live in the area, so I don’t stay there, but my friends do. They were treated well — extra towels and all. Water view and some rooms on the water and a poop. Free use of paddle boats. All the things a family of four enjoyed — Walking distances to Casa del Sol didn’t hurt

Terrific value, great location, good vibe, lots of amenities. If you’re looking for a sweet getaway in a beautiful corner of the world, this is it: stars the natural year-​round beauty of the Adirondacks & supported by location in downhome Saranac Lake, 6 miles from the glitz of Lake Placid, minus the double prices. Just renovated & lots of amenities, like free WIFI, kayaks & boat slips.
