Specialties

Kazu’s 2.0 is a sushi /craft beer /sake bar and eatery, located in heart of Gulf Gate in Sarasota. Our inspired Japanese gastro-pub brings together innovative sushi, and a variety of tapas with an ever –evolving selection of craft beer, sake and sake cocktails. This is all presented in a casual, friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

We also specialize in late night sushi, snacks and libations as late as mid night. Keep an eye out for exciting weekly events on our Facebook page!

History

Established in 2004.

In February 2004, Kazu and his wife Akiko started their own restaurant called Kazu’s Sushi & Asian Bistro. It was very small, but grew to be a popular neighborhood spot. Even though the business was successful for 10 years, he wanted to create a home for his taste in diverse food, drink and music.

In December 2012, «KAZU’S 2.0» was reopened as the only Japanese Gastro Pub in the Gulf Gate district in the center of South Sarasota’s nightlife scene. Kazu brings together his natural talent for improvisation and aesthetic beauty to create wonderful works of musical and culinary art.

Business Owner

Kazu Tsuchiya was born and raised in Shizuoka, Japan. He has a passion for music, especially jazz piano. In 1985, he came to Boston to study jazz composition at Berklee College of Music. While studying music at Berklee, he worked at Boston’s most prominent Japanese restaurant, «GENJI» on Newbury St. where he met the Japanese master sushi chef who discovered his artistic culinary talent. Then he was given the highest level skill training of sushi and Japanese cuisine. Kazu relocated to Sarasota in 1990. He was a house pianist for both the old Summerhouse Restaurant and the Gator Club downtown, for a combined 10 years. After being a full-time musician for 10 years, he decided to change his career and took a head chef job at Pacific Rim in 1999. In February 2004, Kazu and his wife Akiko started their own restaurant called Kazu’s Sushi & Asian Bistro. In December 2012, «KAZU’S 2.0» was reopened as the only Japanese Gastro Pub in the Gulf Gate district.
