Established in 2012.

The Short Giraffe is a unique, boutique confections bakery and catering business that started with years of family recipes, a passion for baking and a dream of business ownership behind it.

My mother taught me how to bake. She’s amazing. My grandmother taught me that everything should and could be done with style. I miss her. My boyfriend (and my official taste-​tester) showed me that I could do ANYTHING I desired. Everyone else told me «you should really do this for a living!» Thus, The Short Giraffe Mini Confections and Catering was born.

I eat (lots of eating), sleep and breathe new recipes, concoct new flavor combinations and dream about sweet designs for our desserts. .It is here that you can find the most flavorful and beautiful sweets for every lovely occasion.

These treats are pretty, indeed, and they are always creatively crafted to fit each event. Our standard, however, is to keep the most delicious flavor possible in every bite.

These treats are pretty, indeed, and they are always creatively crafted to fit each event. Our standard, however, is to keep the most delicious flavor possible in every bite. Buying local, prepping fresh ingredients to order, and infusing natural flavors into every recipe are most important in our daily efforts. Southern baking roots combine with a flair for artful taste combinations, offering up an endless array of dessert possibilities to suit any palate.

Oh, did I mention they’re mini? Truth is, the littler the dessert, the more of them you can eat. And that’s just fine in my book

How can I praise the gals at the Short Giraffe enough? They were amazing and just wonderful people! We went for our tasting and tried a dozen different things it felt like which all tasted great. Everything was made from scratch and tasted great and the price was not expensive I was shocked! We had a hard time picking flavors but we ended up going with carrot cake and chocolate peanut butter for the cake with a dozen strawberry lemon cupcakes and a dozen white chocolate lime cupcakes. We wanted a naked cake for our wedding because we are not huge icing fans and some cake places shy away from that we found but they accommodated us nicely. We also wanted to add a very personal touch to our cake with our toppers and decoration. I was able to leave silk flowers on stems and wire cutters and they managed to put them on the cake beautifully, better than I could have imagined. They were also super excited to see our cake toppers a T-​Rex and a Pegasus we had decorated with a top hat and veil. People had been skeptical about our cake topper choice but when they saw them on the cake loved them. I had been worried about how things would be placed on the cake when the decorating was happening the morning of but I had nothing to fear they did a spectacular job and I was so happy I had decided to place the cake in the center of the room to show it off because it was something to see (and eat!). We were thrilled to see that they had posted about our cake as well after the wedding it really made us feel special. They were amazing to work with and I am so happy we chose them.

I could tell after just spending a short time at this place that it’s a labor of love. The owner (I think she was the owner) was so welcoming and helpful. I had a nutella cheesecake bar thing that was TO DIE FOR. My husband had coffee that was delish. I highly recommend this place. You must go!

I am from out of town and we needed to order a cake for my husband’s birthday.
It was a chocolate cake which was delivered to the restaurant where we had my husband’s party. It was beautiful and without a doubt one of the best cakes that we had ever had!
There was nothing left on anyone’s plates and people were still raving about the cake the next day.

Leigh & Becca were an absolute joy to work with! The cake (pink champagne) and cupcakes (lemon & carrot cake) that we ordered for our dessert reception were utter deliciousness! We also ordered chocolate covered strawberries to be delivered the night of our wedding to our venue and they were super good and cute! Thank you!!!

Bakery items are a don’t-you-dare-not-get-any here! I had the toasted coconut cupcake & was advised to try the signature cupcake latte. They paired perfectly for a heaven-​in-​my-​mouth experience!!! Free wifi was a plus. I do wish for some comfy seating to sit & stay a spell, but I’ll definitely return regardless!

I have given this bakery multiple chances but now I will never go back. A small coffee at any restaurant, coffee place, etc is usually a 12 ounce cup. I purchased my small coffee and noticed that it felt very light. When I took off the lid, it was barely a quarter full. I went back to the counter to ask for a full cup of coffee but was told that that was a small. Why give a 12 ounce cup if you are only going to serve a quarter of coffee? What’s interesting is that she asked me if I needed room for cream and sugar and I said no because I drink it black. So why did she ask if the cup wasn’t full at all?! Overall the service was sub par and the workers were rude. Next time I want a cookie (which they had none of), I’ll go to Sifts at the farmers market.

I love this place but I am a lil bit disappointed I ordered a red velvet cake for my husband birthday I was told that I could not use the deal coupon offered on Unilocal that it was not for catering however on the details it does not say or specify that. It even says that not other restriction can be applied. The cake was not as expected I did not like how it was decorated I did not think it was moist like other times and it had pecans on the middle and I don’t think it says in the description of the cake or when they sell it by the slice.

Five stars for the love and creativity they put into baking yet three for the latte and four for cappuccino. This is a great break from Starbucks and very comparable. Yes Starbucks gets no more than three so this is. What makes this place way better than Starbucks is the bakery selections. Starbucks lost its touch and their poor attempt with la Boulange made it worst while this cozy and a hole in a wall place makes the bakery well adds five star touch to their coffee. Don’t put any flavor to the coffee and get the cake or blonde to add the 3D to the coffee. I do recommend espresso bean chocolate cake to all.

I came here to do a little studying on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The indoor seating was cozy, which means tight if you have a large group, but perfect for me and my books. Free wifi is always a nice touch. The salted caramel latte was perfectly made, and then I tried the café cubano — strong yet sweet. Their desert looked amazing, but I didn’t indulge this time. Next time for sure!

My hubby and I drive 35 minutes for their coffee and sweets! Best place in sarasota… Love watching them bake /​decorate while we sit and drink our coffee :) one of the few places you go where you can tell the workers love working there.

I had a cake from here at a party I was at and it was very different. I couldn’t quite put my finger on the flavor of it. But the cake was very dense and full of flavor. You definitely only need a sliver of it. I was finally told it was birthday cake (or batter) flavor… that was it! I had never had that before and it was quite a treat. Would definitely consider ordering a cake from here.

LOVE this place! It’s the most amazing little sweet shoppe. When you walk in you’re greeted with the delightful scents of a modern bakery. And the flavors are incredibly delectable. Fair warning: you could become addicted to the grapefruit & mint shortbread cookies!

What a wonderful spot! I stopped in here because the shop looked adorable, and was happy to find a lot of delicious treats and kind service.
I tried the scrumptious salted caramel shortbread and a caramel coffee (yes…I like caramel a lot). But I’m excited to go back and try the double fudge brownie and peanut butter bacon cookie. How could I not be?
