Calkins Media had its start in western Pennsylvania, when the late Stanley W. Calkins, purchased controlling interest in this first newspaper, the Uniontown Daily News-​Standard in Uniontown, Pa. on February 15, 1937. Mr. Calkins died in 1973 and today his descendents are still the owners and directors of Calkins Media Inc.

Love our local TV station! Great all round coverage of local events, all the anchors, reporters and ‘personalities’ are professional but also personable. Many have been with the station for numerous years which lends a comfortable consistency, reliability and trustworthiness to their broadcasts.
Online presence is excellent with comprehensive news, weather, breaking stories, lots of local information and more, as well as a great events calendar with info and links to everything happening in our immediate area and beyond.
Just keep the online ‘live stream’ of the newscasts going please!

In my prior review I mentioned I «thought» the quality of on air people had improved for the reasons listed. Now I really have to wonder if some «hires» are really in their senior year of a mail order communications course and working as free interns.
It’s hard to believe that the newest talking head (to me — initials BY) was never corrected by a teacher or at the very least her news director at WWSB to stop saying «back to you guys» as she did twice in a report tonight.
«You guys» is okay for an Applebee’s bartender (hardly), but if you want to do TV reporting or more, develop some better language skills. Now back to you.

Sarasota is smack between Tampa and Ft. Myers and a lot of the time seems to get lost in the shuffle. ABC 7 does a great job of being the ONLY news channel in Sarasota and Manatee counties that is local, live and about the community.

Great local news coverage of the Suncoast area. Bob Harrigan and Scott Dennis are going on 30 years at WWSB and their commitment to the communities and news coverage shows. Bob’s weather forecasts are spot-​on and he writes great blog entries on their website,
Let’s not forget Josh Taylor, he does a great job covering Venice and other parts of south Sarasota County, an area typically ignored by other news outlets.

Good local news coverage, despite the regular glitches that occur on their newscasts. Anchors have been there many years and are friendly people.
ADDENDUM: With the letting go of Heidi Godman, and the edition of Barbie Valley Girl Lauren Dorsett, I’m afraid I will have to change this review. I now watch SNN. I cannot stand her. Heidi Godman has tons more class and is pretty to boot!
