Yolatea

As of January 2015 the Saratoga Yolatea is CLOSED. First there was a sign that the closure was temporary due to a conflict it’s the landlord. Last week the interior furniture was emptied out. So after 5 years it’s over unfortunately. Yet another empty retail location in downtown Saratoga.
Yolatea was a nice friendly dessert place with a contemporary styling. It was a place for a quick guilty treat of decent quality. There was nothing wrong with it. The problem was that it did not become a ‘hangout place’, even though there are only few other options. The dark yet cool interior did not entice to stay much longer than needed.

Walked in, it was empty, warm, and all the gelatos were severely melted to a milkshake watery consistency. I asked the asian woman employee,“Are all these gelatos melted?” And she looked at me and said,“No”. Then I told her to touch it with the serving spoon, and the watery consistency was so obvious that even she had to finally say,“Yes, it is melted.” I felt like an American tourist in a third world Asian country. She was very confused with the disgusted look on my face when looking at the gelatos.
Los Gatos has it made in the shade with Dolce Spazio.

I support local drinks and desserts spot! Basic milk teas and dessert crepes. Every little town should have a variety from fine dining to a casual hang out place for the whole family. Great location since it’s walking distance from The Inn at Saratoga.

Never had this place before so I thought I’d try it with some friends. I got a hot honey green milk tea with lychee jelly, since the weather has been uncommonly cold. I drank about half way and opened the lid to get some of the jelly.
That’s when I saw the long strand of hair.
I don’t think I’ll ever be going back to Yolatea.

My friends and I were doing a girls night out in Saratoga. We were a little early for La Fondue so we decided to grab milk tea here. The store looked really cute and classy from the outside. When you walk in, the store looked very modern and chic, the lighting was a little dark. On the far side, they have frozen yogurt machines with seasonal flavors. They have tons of toppings that you can put on your yogurt. They also offer gelato with some relatively Asian flavors such as lychee. I didn’t get the gelato because they all appeared a little melted.
Yolatea also offers milk tea, flavored teas, and crepes. I wanted to try a crêpe but since we were going to eat at La Fondue, I didn’t want to ruin dinner for myself. I ended up ordering a jasmine milk tea while my friends ordered a lychee milk tea and a taro milk tea. In all honesty, I was very disappointed with my milk tea. I love jasmine because it’s a strong tea flavor. When I took a sip of my tea, I couldn’t taste the jasmine, not at first anyways. I had to search for the flavor before I could taste the hint of jasmine. The pearls were a little hard, not soft and chewy the way I like it. It reminds me of pearls that are in frozen drinks.
I wish I could have liked this place more than I did. But it’s a great place to come with children. While we were sitting there chatting, I saw lots of parents with their kids come buy frozen yogurts and desserts after school.

Came in for a cute dessert after dinner down the road. One glance at the gelato and I knew I would be resorting to the yogurt. Most of the gelatos were half melted, although it is cool that they are serving Gelato Classico which is really good getalto. too bad they couldn’t keep their freezer cold enough. My mom liked her ginger gelato, though.
I got cookies and cream yogurt… horrible. You could taste the artificial sweeters so strongly, that I actually COULDN’T taste the toppings on my yogurt. HUGE turn off especially since I would like to avoid artificial sweetners – but they ONLY serve «non fat yogurt» so if you’re getting the yogurt you’re getting the chemicals.
If you are looking for a dessert, maybe just try Big Basin Café right across the street.

Popped in here after having Indonesian food down the street. My mouth was still on fire! Found this place on Unilocal and went over intending to get boba tea.
Came in and saw the gelato, and decided on that instead. Took a seat and let the BF choose our dessert, since I’d picked out our lunch dishes. He ended up picking the double vanilla espresso bean and the dark chocolate. Flavors tasted okay, but they worked best together– the dark chocolate was almost chalky and was very thick, while the espresso was lighter and almost icy, and sweeter. Combined, they were good, but I don’t think I would have enjoyed either of them separately. Very odd textures for both– too icy and melty for one, and almost more of a sticky texture to the other. Weird.
While eating our treat, we were approached by an older man in a vintage-​looking suit who asked for a dollar. Very odd and really put me off. I know this small place can’t control who walks through their doors or what they say, especially when they look like an upstanding senior citizen, but this totally put me off my dessert. He approached a few more customers before walking up to the counter, at which point we left. Not sure what happened after that. Very odd and awkward.

Bleh. I ordered taro and it tasted like powder. Shame on me for trying to get decent boba in this area…

This place is alright… It closes super early, is pretty expensive, and has just okay food.
The milk tea is pretty bad, the frozen yogurt is not very diverse and just ordinary, and the gelato is probably the only good.
However, due to the location, it’s a good spot for high schoolers and others to meet up, as well as the inside is pretty comfy to just hang around and talk.
Overall, I don’t willingly go to this place if there is another nearby ice cream spot/​Yogurtland, unless friends really want to get together somewhere local.

Did not have a good experience here. The tables were sticky from previous customers and they didn’t clean them. The place is really dark with no outdoor seating so its a lousy place to spend a sunny summer afternoon.
To make things even worse, a racist Chinese couple was sitting near us saying filthy things about every customer that walked in, especially those who weren’t Asian. I lived in China a few years and saw the same among the nouveau riche… quite disgusting, shameless behavior. Not that this is the fault of Yolatea, but realize that as Saratoga attracts more well-​to-​do Chinese, this is going to become more common.
Oh the gelato is OK. Just OK.

Yesterday I came to this milk tea shop for the 2^nd time to try their milk teas. The ambience of this place is hip, trend and sleek. There’s ample seating and the lighting isn’t too dim or too bright. The faux wood tiles are cool and sleek and the lounge sofas in the front make this spot a cool hangout spot.
However, their bathroom was out of service both times I came here which made my drinking experience less than perfect. It’s hard to drink when you have to pee. Also, i asked the worker what the difference between the Royal Milk tea and the black milk tea was and she said they are the same. I asked why are they two different menu items with different names and she replied that only their names were different. I don’t remember if there was a price difference in the two or not but I don’t see why two menu items that are identical should be listed twice. I give her props for telling me the truth.
I tried the mango frozen yogurt and the cookies and cream frozen yogurt which were both very tasty. I was happy to discover that the creamy non-​fruity flavored frozen yogurts didn’t taste tart and that the fruity ones did. I got mango popping boba (I am still in awe at how those are made) paired with the mango frozen yogurt and oreo cookies paired with the cookies and cream frozen yogurt (creative…aren’t I?).

Mango milk tea is great ! Their portions are small and over priced. I’ve definitely had better. But the name did throw me off. I thought that they would be more focused on the tea, but it seems focused on frozen yogurt. Kind of a disappointment :/​but it wasn’t bad. If you have a milk tea craving, it’ll satisfy it. I guess.

Busy place. Had good tea. Also had gelato, frozen yogurt& crepes.

I eat next door at Hachi Ju Hachi all the time. Every time I leave, Yolatea is closed. THis time I went in first due to thirst and got a Lychee tea. Pretty tasty and refreshing. Interesting that they do yogurt, gelato and crepes too. Maybe too many things? not sure but I enjoyed my beverage

If you’re in the mood for just about any kind of dessert, they probably have it.
They have, crepes, gelato, frozen yogurt, pearl milk tea and many other things. Needless to say I come for the crepes and gelato, which you can get TOGETHER, and it’s not super expensive.
I always get the honey lavender gelato on a plain crêpe, or just by itself = super good either way.
It’s in a nice location because you can grab your favorite dessert and walk around downtown Saratoga.
If you like good crepes and gelato/​frozen yogurt you should definitely try this place!

Lately my kids have been choosing frozen yogurt over ice cream and Yolatea was a nice choice in downtown Saratoga. We were the only customers on a rainy afternoon so we got to lounge by the faux fireplace and eat our treats.
As other customers noted, it is a bit odd that the employees make the samples for you. I can’t imagine local Saratoga teens going wild with samples, but who knows.
They use Oregon’s own YoCream frozen yogurt and had a nice selection of toppings. Others complain about the high price, but it seemed comparable with what we pay for the same product in my neck of the woods.

Mediocre and overpriced desserts, unpleasant workers, and just an uncomfortable experience overall.
The place was decorated very modern-​ly, which is unexpected since most frozen yogurt places are very bubbly (for lack of a better word). There were very many places to sit, but for some reason the environment just didn’t feel right.
My friends and I all got the gelato, since we felt that the frozen yogurt couldn’t be as good as other yogurt places, and the guy behind the counter gave us samples (but wasn’t very nice about it so we felt uncomfortable asking for more than a few…)
The gelato all looked pretty gross. Usually gelato looks delicious, but the gelato at Yolatea was melted and goopy (again, no other word to describe it.) The consistency was also very thick and stringy.
My friend commented that the small was a good serving size, which is true, but it was a very small amount for the $ 3.50 I paid for my dessert.
To top it all off the bathroom smelled like a fish tank. Gross.
Wasn’t too impressed with Yolatea and I definitely will not be coming back.

To sum up my experience in Yolatea: Strange.
Strange??? Yeah, their service was a bit strange. –1 star because when Patty F. and I came here to sample some yogurt, the employee there stingily only brought out two sample cups, one per person. Uh. What? … I GUESS I won’t ask for another sample…
So the frozen yogurt is not bad, actually! Natural flavor was very tart, and pomegranate was way too sour. However, the mango was THE most delicious mango-​flavored yogurt I have ever tasted. Honeydew was pretty good, too… but it tastes delicious when you mix a bit of the natural flavor to balance the tartness of the pomegranate/​natural.
What I like about Yolatea is that it’s really convenient because they have a variety of desserts: crepes, frozen yogurt, gelato, pearl milk tea… you name it. And they have a large selection of each, too.
My only other hesitation is the price… but what do you expect, we’re in Saratoga. Of course prices are gonna be higher. Just think of it as an incentive to not eat as much yogurt or skip out on the toppings. I was really surprised to see the place was pretty busy, and not filled with obnoxious customers. The ambiance could be a little better… it’s not exactly homey. Same with the service — employees weren’t exactly friendly.
But I’m so happy that Saratoga finally has something decent, and a place for people to hangout. For once us Saratogans don’t have to drive all the way to Cupertino to get something to snack on!

I never thought downtown Saratoga would have something like this but I am not hating. After getting a few fondue pieces (literally like 4) we went to Casa de Cobre and were still hungry… the plus one saw gelato and got excited…
The ginger was decent
The honey lavender was light in flavor…
It was late around 9 something and they were still open
Not bad downtown Saratoga not bad.
